The Rock House - 1 bdrm, 1 bath Salem Missouri Vacation Rental

Welcome to Salem Missouri! Come take in the beauty of the Ozarks! We are located close to the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, approximately 2 hours south of St. Louis. Montauk State Park is located 35 minutes south and is one of Missouri’s premier trout fishing parks. Trout season opens in March and runs through October.
Echo Bluffs, the newest of the Missouri State Parks is located 32 miles south on Highway 19.
Our 1800’s refurbished cottage has one bedroom and a den. The master bedroom has the attached bath and a queen sized bed. A second area has a den with a double pull out sofa bed. The Little Rock house is equipped with towels, blankets, sheets, coffee pot, toaster, microwave and all kitchen and bath necessities.
Come enjoy our quiet Country Cottage at the edge of town and enjoy what the Ozarks has to offer; floating on the Current River, fishing at Montauk, or just sitting back and relaxing at the beauty of our scenic area.

Hidden Gem

The pictures do not do this little cottage justice. It is immaculately maintained and stocked with everything you could possibly need. I found the decor charming. It has a beautiful big lawn in the back with a deck to watch the fireflies in the evening. I will definitely be back when I am in the area.

A surprising gem

This little house is a gem: a charming, beautifully restored 19th century cottage. Everything in the house is comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. Think hobbit house, if the hobbits hired Martha Stewart. We stayed two nights, as a stop over during a long road trip, and it was nearly perfect. Highly recommended.

Probably the best placed I have stay in southern Missouri for my fishing trip. The house has a lot to offer for its size. This place should be the place of places when going to southern Missouri to fish located from all the streams. Just in awe that this place exists. Will definitely be looking to stay here again for future trips

Wonderful Weekend Getaway

I was in the area for a canoe trip and stayed at the quaint stone cottage and it was ideal! The privacy and serenity of the back yard was wonderful and the property was exceptionally well appointed. My boyfriend definitely over-indulged in the thoughtfully left snack basket! Thank you for the stay!

Quaint Stone House

Sweet stone house. Very clean with all the necessities and lots of little extra touches like a goody basket in the kitchen. We loved all the windows in the eating area looking out on the back grassy area. Good central location to explore the area around Salem. Easy check in and check out. Saundra was great to communicate with. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful

The Sugar Rock house property is beautiful. All kinds of beautiful birds sing in the morning and in the evening watching firefly's in the backyard. Peaceful! So cozy and peaceful

This was our 2nd stay at the rock house and everything was wonderful. The back deck is perfect, with beautiful view of the large backyard and so peaceful. The house is well stocked with all the essentials, and anything you may need for cooking. Saundra is great to communicate with and super accommodating. We will be back again next year! Feels like home ❤️

This was my second stay and I plan to book every time I’m in Salem. Love everything about this house. As soon as you walk, it feels like home. From the comfy bed to cute little deck overlooking the big backyard, it’s the perfect place for 1 or 2 guests. Quiet location but also close to town. I highly recommend it!!

Our favorite place to stay

This is our 2nd time staying at Sandy’s house. We come to Salem every year to race and love it. It’s the perfect size for the two of us and parking is amazing. The neighbors are great and it’s super safe. Right down the street is Main Street Cafe and it’s a must of you come to Salem and love southern food!! Sandy is very attentive and communicates everything in detail. We will definitely be staying there every year, as long as she rents the house out☺️

Adorable cottage perfect for two!

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Rock House in Salem! Quiet and safe neighborhood with a beautiful private backyard & deck. The bed was extremely comfy, and the kitchen and bath had everything we needed. The owner, Saundra, was easy to communicate with, and she even dropped off an ironing board and iron for us to use when we asked. The entire cottage was clean, with the only exception being the fridge (we had to wipe the shelves down because they were dirty and sticky from the last occupants. Not a huge deal for us. Still deserved a 5 star rating. We would definitely stay here again! Side note: My only complaint is aimed at VRBO. I paid up-front for 4 nights, and then added 3 nights after the fact that were unpaid. I then had to cancel those 3 nights prior to the cancellation deadline, so the charge should have been cancelled. The charge has continued as “payment due” on my reservation, and both I and the owner have spoken with VRBO to have this charge removed. They cannot seem to figure this out for us, and it still says I own money for days that were cancelled for free. My advice is to be certain of your days BEFORE you book, because VRBO’s billing system doesn’t recognized legitimate schedule changes in their system (at least in our case).

Perfect home away from home ❤️

From the moment I walked it, it felt like home. Beautiful updated stone “cottage” that still has the character of years ago. The amenities were top of the line - comfy bedding, a cozy living room, sun porch and outdoor deck overlooking a huge backyard. There even was a basket of treats waiting on the kitchen counter!! Great location, close to town in a quiet neighborhood. I will definitely be back!!

My husband and I retired after 33 years in the Military and decided Salem was the right fit for us. The rock house started out as a get-away while we were working, and a place in the summer to persue his fly-fishing passion. I visited in the summers here in Salem with my Grandma, Aunts, Uncles and cousins, so it has always been my second home. I love to travel, buy houses (it’s an addiction) decorate and keep up with the Grandkids! My husband is Mr. Fix-It, and together we have made a special place for you to come and relax.

Why they chose this property

This property was a mess when we bought it. It took us 3 years, little by little, to get it back in shape. The house was built somewhere in the 1800’s and once was a part of a 1,500 acre parcel. No records on exactly when the home was built could be located. This is a unique property- old on the outside and remodeled on the inside. Just perfect if you have a little “Farmhouse Chic” in your soul.
