Peaceful and relaxing weekend
This is a hidden gem in the Texas hill country! John and Karen have gone above and beyond as top notch hosts! They have thought of every single detail inside and outside. Just pack your clothes and go! If you love beautiful, country living, on a awesome ranch, then this place if for you. If you find an open weekend when the cabin is not booked, consider yourself lucky! I foresee this place being booked a year in advance as word gets out and the reviews of 10/10 keep coming in! Andrea was right! San Saba/Lometa has beautiful property! We look forward to coming again!

Rest and relax
What a place!! John and Karen are such greats hosts! They had the cabin all ready to go when we arrived. The cabin was filled with everything you could ask for and more. There also were tasty treats on the table upon our arrival. The cabinets were stocked with just about anything we need. But we went to the grocery store, bought some hamburger rolls, soda, chips, and stopped at the local meat market for hamburgers and used the outdoor charcoal grill. The ice machine on the counter worked great and fast. It was a very relaxing place with a great porch to sit and watch the deer grazing in the field. They also provided some deer pellets so you can put them In the trough and watch the deer come running in. The outdoor fire place was amazing! The trails around the property were so nice and it was a short walk to the Colorado river. The only problem, I wish I brought was my fishing pole! Enjoy!!

Weekend Get-a-way!
Andi's Cabin was just what my husband and I needed to get a way for a couple of days. A little piece of Heaven in Texas for sure. While we did not bring our children, it is most definitely a family friendly place to stay. A lot of acreage to room and enjoy nature. Karen was amazing. She made sure everything was taken care of. And her added touches of fresh baked goodies and aromatic lotion and soaps was perfect! We highly recommed this property!!!!

Amazing stay
We had an amazing time at Andi’s cabin. The property was just as described and the fresh baked goods were such a great treat on arrival. We really enjoyed watching the animals, soaking in the hot tub, and fishing on the river. The cabin was extremely clean and had everything we needed. The huge selection of movies was a great touch! Would recommended to any family!

This was the most precious and refreshing stay with the SWEETEST hosts. We will be back next year. Not far from Colorado Bend State Park. Lots of deer roam free on the property and it was just perfect! Karen even makes homemade Cinnamon Rolls and Cookies! Quiet, peaceful, and beautiful!

Perfect birthday getaway!
We stayed here for my boyfriend’s 30th birthday/our anniversary trip and it was such a nice getaway!! There were two wasp friends we found inside the cabin with us throughout the weekend, but thankfully they didn’t bother us much. Other than that, it was an awesome experience!

Best Hosts Of Our Lifetime
Karen and John are the most welcoming Host we have ever stayed with. The cabin is fantastic! We entered the cabin with a huge surprise. We found our name on a board welcoming us to the cabin. There were fresh baked cookie and homemade cinnamon rolls that were delicious. Every amenity you could think of, a personal touch that will take hold of your heart (story of their daughter) and so much more. The hot tub was perfect with working jets, very clean water, and set at 104 ready to soak our sore muscles. We were blessed with getting to feed the deer and other exotic wildlife. We had dinner out in front of the fireplace under the stars that shine very bright. We could not have asked for a better time or for better hosts. THIS RETREAT IS WORLD CLASS!

The type of place you want to give 5 stars, but you also want to keep to yourself, it's that good
The most well though out place my girlfriend and I have ever stayed. Attention to detail is incredible! From the moment you walk in to the fresh baked cookies, homemade cinnamon rolls and note from the host, you know it's going to be amazing! One of the absolute best places we've stayed in a very long time! Karen met us at the gate to show us everything we needed to know to fully enjoy the property and her husband John came by to introduce himself and let us know that there was no rush to leave. Overall, cannot recommend them and their property more, but leave some slots on the calendar because we'll be back!

Great Hosts and Beautiful Property!
Karen and her husband were the best hosts we have had in a rental! They are really accommodating. With so much detail they go above and beyond what is expected of a host and we really appreciated it. The property is beautiful. We fed the deer each morning, walked to the river to fish, built a fire on their beautiful outdoor fireplace, grilled some steaks, enjoyed the hot tub under the stars and so much more but not spoiling any little surprises… : ) Myself and my girlfriend are already thinking about when we want to come back!

Babymoon Getaway
The property itself is secluded and quiet with lots of wildlife to enjoy. The cabin has absolutely everything you could need for a cozy stay, and even things you didn’t know you needed. (Like delicious baked goods, feed for the wildlife, and wood/charcoals to grill or have a fire) My husband and I took this getaway to relax before welcoming our first child. The property had something for each of us to do: with easy to walk trails, river access for my husband to kayak and fish, and a hot tub (that I was able to adjust to a low-heat setting and enjoy!) We were surprised by all the little touches, it’s hard to put into words. The care that the hosts Karen and John have put into Andi’s Cabin really give an extra layer of gratitude to the whole experience. They checked in with us, but also left us plenty of breathing room.

Perfect getaway
Perfect from booking to check out! We were looking for a getaway for my husband and myself to get away from a very busy life. We enjoy spending time together driving our Jeep in backroads and looking for places to eat but most of all, just plain quiet! This is the place! The Sloan family welcomes you as one of their own from the time you hit “book”. Communication is amazing and very welcoming. Great location to get away but still be 10–15 minutes from food, shopping, anything you may need. The directions provided led us straight to the location without difficulty. Welcomed with information for lodging and gates. Once opened the door to the cabin, we had bottle of wine, cookies and a little chalkboard awaiting us. Everything about the cabin is special- tribute to Andi is so very special. Little things all over like labeled cabinet supplies, a step to get into the tall bed, robes and flip flops for the hot tub..every time we thought “I wish we would have” we turned around and it was there. Simply perfect, cannot say anything else to sum it up better.

The hosts John and Karen, Sloan Ranch, were amazingly welcoming, helpful and communicative yet, gave us our space and privacy to really enjoy our stay. The ranch is beautiful. Got up close and personal with the deer. Caught a giant catfish, stay has river access on property. Cabin's shower, hot tub, and outdoor fireplace were very enjoyable and appreciated by us. The stars were amazing at night. One thing I kept saying to my husband during our three night stay was that the hosts absolutely thought of everything! We will be back again. Was our best rental stay of all our travels and marriage this far 💓 thank you Sloan Ranch 😊👍

Us in a nutshell:
1. We met in college, married when we were 21, and have rounded the corner on 50 years together.
2. We have two daughters, a son-in-law, 4 grandchildren, and a great grandchild--all exceptional, of course!
3. Careerwise, one or both of us have taught college for many years, run an extended-stay weight loss business in Park City, served as research director for a major regional hospital, and been an administrative assistant for CEOs and a college dean.
We saved the Great Adventure for last! In 2014, we bought Carpe Diem Ranch, intending to retire, ride horses, and immerse ourselves in the hill country's natural beauty. Instead, John continued online teaching, built a flock of sheep from half a dozen to 150, and expanded our herds of white tail, axis, and blackbuck to include ureals, fallow deer, and scimitar oryx. He also spent 3 years turning a dilapidated shed into Andi's Cabin and another 18 months giving the ranch's abandoned Fleetwood Festival caravan the makeover she deserved.
We thought ranching was fun--and it is--but when we started hosting guests for "do whatcha wanta do" weekends, our life satisfaction score skyrocketed. Nothing has been more gratifying than meeting the exceptional people who escape to the ranch, some to unwind, some to fish, some to be close to Bend, and some to heal. Whatever the reason for your getaway, the ranch has been a "more than you're hoping for" place for most of our guests.

Come for a weekend or a week at Andi's Cabin--find out what the ranch can do for you.

Note: Why "Andi's Cabin"?
Andi's Cabin is a special place with a unique story. Named in loving memory of our daughter Andi, an Austinite with a deep connection to the Texas Hill Country, this cabin is a tribute to her zest for life, compassion, and love for this beautiful region.
For those curious about Andi's remarkable story, do a quick Google search of "Andrea Sloan in Austin."

And borrowing her words, "We hope your spirits are light today."

Why they chose this property

We chose this ranch because its western boundary is the Colorado River. After moving here, we quickly learned how fortunate we are to live a mile from the nearest highway but only a short drive to the delightful community of San Saba.

We also discovered that a main artery of the Central Migration Corridor runs along the eastern edge of the ranch which, along with the river, provides a seemingly endless supply of birds from miniature hummingbirds to bald eagles.

What makes this property unique

We are secluded: a mile from the nearest highway and almost a half mile from the nearest neighbor.
🌳🌳We are immersed in nature, from the hills surrounding us to the Colorado River on our western boundary.
🦌Our land is dedicated to preserving wildlife. We have native white tail deer, raccoons, possums, red and gray foxes, armadillos, an occasional ringtail cat, and birds galore. We also have exotic animals that graze almost wherever they wish--I watch them 10 yards from my kitchen window. You'll see them almost that close from your lodging. Among the exotics on the ranch are axis deer, blackbuck antelope, fallow deer, and scimitar oryx.
Nothing gives us quite as much pleasure as sharing our little piece of heaven with guests who choose us for their getaway. We do our best to provide "discreet hospitality"--available whenever you need us, our of your way when you don't.
