Charming Playa Las Tortugas Villa

La Villa Reyes is a lovely private villa surrounded by lush gardens steps from gorgeous Playa Las Tortugas beach. The interior is spacious and well-appointed. The patios and rooftop deck provide extensive outdoor spaces to enjoy the wonderful climate. La Villa Reyes is an oasis of comfort set in beautiful and uncrowded Playa Las Tortugas. Daily maid and laundry service is included.

Private Villa, 2 King size Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, Sleeps 5 , "dreamy" rooftop day bed!
Read our outstanding reviews! La Villa Reyes is a "free-standing" house that is not attached to any other buildings or residences - it's all yours!

La Villa Reyes at Playa Las Tortugas is a secluded oceanfront community on a gorgeous beach. An upscale tropical paradise on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit region on the Pacific coast. Entrée Magazine summed up the picturesque setting, “ a gorgeous, coconut-producing plantation, an 1100-acre estuary teeming with exotic birds and a turtle camp protecting the endangered olive ridley turtles.“

Villa Reyes beckons you to the travel experience of a lifetime, with a 2,000 square feet home with air conditioning in the two bedrooms on the first floor and the dining and living areas on the second floor. The third floor provides 1,000 square feet of open deck - equipped with a wet bar, palm covered palapa, full size outdoor day bed, dining table, and lounge chairs. Our community averages 300 sunny days per year.!

You will enjoy privacy and tranquility with ocean views and the sounds of waves from both king size bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room and the rooftop deck. The pristine beach is just a leisurely 3-minute stroll through colorful tropical flowers, foliage, and coconut palms. Only yards further up the beach is the mangrove-lined, fresh water estuary where you can kayak among 125 species of exotic birds, including the resident pelicans and roseate spoonbills.

Canoe or swim across the estuary for lunch at one of Platanitos’ six sand floored, oceanfront restaurants. Enjoy a walk or a barefooted run on our 5 miles of uninhabited sand beach that is lined with palm trees and goes on as far as the eye can see. The ocean waves are great for boogie boards, surfers, and ocean kayaks. The large community pool and the new 65 ft lap pool are just steps from La Villa Reyes and are favorites of our guests. Even small children can participate in the release of hatchlings from the Turtle Camp, with sometimes as many as 1,000 in one evening.

La Villa Reyes is one of only two Tortugas rentals that offer air conditioning in all rooms – a special benefit when the mid-day temperatures heat up. A clothes washer and dryer are located in the Villa and the staff will gladly do your laundry. The kitchen is equipped with full-size appliances and bottled water is supplied. Bath and bedroom linens are provided. Beach towels also!

The Villa has 2 king-size beds. Both spacious bedrooms have full baths, including large tiled showers. Each bedroom opens to a covered lanai. The large closets are adequate for a long term stay. A hairdryer is provided in each bathroom. Air mattresses are also available and a "Pack and Play" are available for children. Our roof-top day bed has custom insect screening and perfect ocean/pool views. This bed can provide 'starry, starry nights' for the adventuresome.

Highchairs are available. Close parental supervision is needed for children on the rooftop deck, near stairs, and in the water. Childcare can be arranged by our staff.

There is daily maid and garden service to ensure your villa and the grounds are in top condition for your enjoyment. The gardener will assist with renting kayaks, getting wood for beach bonfires, and getting coconuts for guest consumption.

The dining room table seats eight. The dining room table and computer desk are well positioned to retain the ocean views while you relax to use the home's WiFi or just read a book.

There are two additional dining areas – one on the second floor balcony and one on the rooftop. For those of you who would like to leave the cooking to us, we can arrange affordable/authentic Mexican meals prepared in your villa by our wonderful cooks.

The den has a flat screen TV/DVD player for free NETFLIX movies. It adjoins the kitchen and provides great ocean views/sounds. Books, board games and playing cards are provided. Colorful Mexican tiles and tasteful accent pottery throughout the house will add to your enjoyment.

To reach Playa Las Tortugas, guests will travel 70 miles north from the Puerto Vallarta airport and 270 km from Guadalajara. Good roads will take you by mountain passages, small villages, roadside fruit stands, and the scenes become progressively more rural in the heart of the Riviera Nayarit. By the time you turn west toward the ocean, you will see major farming which produces tons of pineapples, large herds of cattle, and huge mango orchards. Arrival at Playa Las Tortugas before sunset is recommended to avoid bikes and stray cattle that could be on the roadways.

This area from Puerta Vallarta to Playa Las Tortugas has a great reputation for traveler safety and cordial citizenry. Top security firms have found Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit among the safest tourist destinations in the world.

The weather in Riviera Nayarit is widely recognized as some of the best on the Planet. Average year-round temperatures range from highs of 80 to 85 degrees to lows of 60 to 70 degrees. Most rain occurs from June through September and even then, most rain occurs at night or during pre-dawn thundershowers. Much of the year is characterized by deep blue skies and ocean breezes.

There are multiple options for transport from the airport. Many guests choose to rent a car from companies like Gecko Car Rentals (they pick up and return you to the airport/they include insurance in the rental price). Some guests use bus/taxi transportation. We also offer a private airport shuttle that will stop for lunch and grocery shopping in Puerto Vallarta. (Our staff can also provide provide next day delivery of grocery items you may have forgotten.)

A Washington Post reporter called Playa Las Tortugas his "Shangri-La", the place I could recommend without reservation or caveat.” Our secluded beach community will indeed take you back to the 'old Mexico'.

To complement this tropical paradise, the well-appointed La Villa Reyes will provide comfort, privacy, serenity and memories to last a lifetime. (For optimum privacy, remember that La Villa Reyes is a free-standing dwelling - not a duplex nor a condominium.

great stay
Our stay at this house was great. It had everything that we needed to make our meals and be very comfortable. The place was very secluded, and the beach was just a short walk away. It was nice to have the pool to ourselves. The only thing that was bad, was the road. It had just recently rained, and the road was very muddy. The listing is very accurate except for the fact that the washer and dryer listed is not actually for guest use. If you need laundry washed, the maid will wash it for you. But all in all, the place was very clean, had all the amenities listed and we would definitely stay again. We had so much fun and the scenery is amazing!!

This villa is a dream come true. We loved the clean and comfortable rooms, we swam a lot in both the lap pool and family pool, and loved the local home cooking from housekeeper Maria. And don't forget your binoculars if you’re a birder, theres dozens of specues right on the grounds, plus a beach and estuary. Really an amazing place. And great communication with the owner John.

Fabulous experience
From start to finish, our trip was fabulous. We had excellent communication from John before our trip so we knew exactly what to expect and how to navigate Covid travel. Mario and Maria were so wonderful and helpful and Maria’s cooking delicious and plentiful and it was a real gift to not have to cook. The house was spacious, well appointed, nicely decorated, comfortable and very clean and we loved relaxing in it when we weren’t at the pools or the beautiful beach. This is a special place!

La Villa Reyes
We had a blast and cannot say enough about La Villa Reyes. The property and surroundings are beautiful and kept in immaculate condition. We immediately felt a sense of peace on our arrival and were immensely appreciative of Mario's presence to welcome us as we pulled into the driveway and for Maria's snacks after our long journey. John and Roberta were stellar hosts from the get-go, addressing all questions and/or any concerns we had before our stay and were kind enough to check in and make sure all was well during our stay. Maria is a gem and her cooking AMAZING! We were so very grateful for all her and Mario's help - exceptional! We will definitely be back. Thank you! Just to note - if you are on the sensitive side to noseeums and mosquito bites (as one of our family members was - the rest of us were fine), make sure there are sufficient insect repellant/anti-itch.

Excelent enviroment
We were very happy during our stay at this house. Very nice quiet place, with large gardens, two pools, steps from the beach. The gardener and her wife were very servicial. We definitely want to return. Make sure you bring enough food and drinks since there are no grocery stores near.

Didn’t want to leave...
This is a perfect off the beaten path property that may take a little extra time to get to, but the reward is worth it... quiet, remote, beautiful spot with all the comforts of home. The villa is clean & full of Mexican charm. We stocked up on food at the Mega store on our way there & also enjoyed some amazing home cooked meals from Maria. Mario helped arrange some fun activities (kayaks, whale watching/fishing) and the kids had fun boogie boarding the perfect sized waves at a beach all to ourselves. Wifi wasn’t the best, but that was a small price to pay for the awesome location. Would highly recommend this place (but please don’t tell too many of your friends).

Great Vacation
This is a lovely and expensive house in a community of about 6 similar houses. It is very remote--hours from a supermarket which was really refreshing, but also a challenge. The poll and the beach were often completely empty of other people. It is a beautiful place to socially distance. Mario and Maria are super helpful and will bring things from the store if needed.

Great Beach House and Excellent Staff
This was our 4th trip to Playa las Tortugas and we had the BEST family trip to date. This house is perfect for one family with the most amazing staff. Mario and Maria were not only super friendly, they accommodated our every need and Maria's food was amazing! The best yet we have had there. She would bring treats daily for the children. They had all the toys and beach chairs you need and AC in both living area and bedrooms when you needed a break from the sun. We stayed during Covid times and the owner made it risk free for us and was willing to work with us if there had to be travel changes due to Covid. Luckily we did not have to change our plans and traveled safely and felt super safe. The staff wore masks when they were in the home working. We feel refreshed and was the best decision we made in 2020 was to stay here!

A simple word: magic
We, a family of 4 , 2 parents, 2 boys aged 15 (twins), can highly recommend this wonderful place. We are Austrians, who have lived now over 23 years in Mexico and during this time, have travelled extensively not only in Mexico , but also Central and South America. As a place for beach vacation, Playa Tortugas is in our opinion unrivaled. WE fully agree with all the positive reviews of our predecessors: Beautiful surrounding in a perfect garden ( a lawn the rivals that of Wimbledon) , a beach of 5 miles almost for yourselves , a very nice house , tastefully designed and furbished, and above , practical: e.g. We have never enjoyed an outdoor shower with warm water, among other many details. Many activities: Beachfront walks and jogging, swimming in the pools, excursions, bonfire. A special experience was walking (with all precautions) literally in the ocean at night and being surrounded by bioluminescent bacteria, illuminating our bodies while moving them in the water. The service is outstanding: Maria and Mario are incredible nice and anticipate your wishes. Maria is an excellent cook, please try her seafood recipes. After spending almost 5 months in our house in Mexico City due to COVID 19, we experienced 3 wonderful weeks at this outstanding place. We lived the same precautionary measures like at home, Maria and Mario were the only contacts we had, and they always had masks on. Thank you so much Ken, Maria, and Mario for accepting us as guests. We very much look forward to returning.

This was a fantastic way to spend a 12 day family vacation
From start to finish, the Kings and their staff worked hard to make our stay enjoyable. We were travelling with 3 small kids (4,2,7) and starting our trip with Mario picking us up at the airport and it was perfect. The drive is long but there are alot of little fruit stands to stop along the way. When we arrived, Maria had a snack and fresh squeezed juice for us. The house was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The 3rd level was beautiful, but as some other reviews stated, a little scary for small children. The beach was perfect--warm water, small waves and beautiful sunsets. We were able to help with the turtle release (which Ken was able set up twice for us and we greatly appreciated it). This is a must and such a fun experience. My older two kids and husband kayaked the estuary and walked around the small town. We were able to see local fisherman each morning and they were always friendly and willing to show us their techniques. Maria was such a wonderful part of our trip. She was so sweet and although she spoke no English, communication was never an issue. She and Mario were always willing to pick up groceries or make us something off the menu. Ken was nice enough to even pick up groceries for us when he went into PV. He and his wife also had custom shirts made for our whole family and it was such a sweet touch and great way remember this wonderful trip. This community makes for a perfect family trip. Everyone we met was so kind and made you feel right at home. As some reviews stated, the bugs can be pretty annoying so we definitely advise packing powerful bug spray and also some anti itch gel or cream! Overall, this really is such a special place. It's off the beaten path and a perfect way to connect with nature while enjoying all the area has to offer.

Beyond Amazing!
It is exactly as described. The house was fantastic, all the amenities were there for us. Mario helped book an amazing excursion and Maria's cooking was the best ever! The beach was fantastic and we were amazed that it was so clean and well taken care of. The absolute only thing is there are sand gnats or no-seeums as some people might call them. They bothered my boyfriend but I had no problems with them. It won't stop us from coming back we will just do more research on how to prevent them from biting! You can sit on the top floor and without turning your head you can look at the ocean and the mountains at the same time. We took long walks on the beach and collected seashells everyday. We went whale watching in San Blas and Mario negotiated a great price for us. The place had air conditioning but honestly we never needed it with the ceiling fans and the drapes closed in the afternoon, it was perfect. Whether you are coming as a couple, a family, or a group of friends, this is a great place to rent. It is exactly as described and you will not be disappointed. We stayed February 3rd through the 11th. Very fair price and well worth every penny! I can't say enough about the beach! We never did walk to the end as it is more than 5 miles of wild beautiful beach with beautiful sand. And don't get me started on the awesome sunsets! I've used VRBO in other areas before and things were semi-close to as described but enhanced, This is not the case here. Ken was super helpful and the directions we're spot on. We came late in the afternoon/early evening and were a little uneasy about the long 20-minute drive off the main road but once we arrived he was there to greet us and it was amazing!

Christmas at Villa Reyes
We had a wonderful week at Villa Reyes. We rented a nice new RAV4 from Gecko and stopped at the new El Comer grocery store before making the long drive “up north.” The home was clean, staff Maria and Mario were kind and helpful, and homeowner Ken kept in touch, via email, with lots of tips to assist us on our adventures. We drove to El Cora and hiked to the beautiful waterfall for an extremely refreshing swim. We drove to see the old churches & fort of San Blas, stopping off to see the crocodiles on the way. We stopped down to Platanitos on our way back, to see the local families enjoying their waning hours of Christmas Day on the beach. We paddled kayaks back into the peaceful estuary, and drove to La Peñita to do some fun shopping at their Thursday market. Lots of rural Mexico sight seeing on this trip! Of course we peeked at the turtle releases, but didn’t pay to take part, since we had done that and horseback riding on a previous visit. We did use the boogie boards a time or 2. Our teenage girls used the pool, but only briefly. Honestly, we just ran out of time. Maria had a meal waiting for us when we arrived... along with the surprise of a piñata from owner Carolyn. Maria also made yummy fish ceviche for us! Mario brought a red snapper to us so we could grill it on Xmas Eve. He also brought enough wood down to the beach for us to have a fire on 2 different nights! Everyone slept well with ac off and windows open to the sound of crashing surf. We LOVED the rooftop bed... but we adults used it at night, not during the day. The rooftop patio is a wonderful place to be at anytime of the day or night. I wouldn’t bring little kids up there, though, as the railings seem rather low. The WiFi is unreliable, as one would expect for the remote location, but we got by. The beach towels and chairs were great, the bathrooms were all nice, and the kitchen well supplied. Loved all the different types of tile in the home! The natural beach is just that... natural, and uncrowded. Fun to watch the pelicans skimming above the curling waves. Sunsets were gorgeous, but you MUST spray with a powerful bug repellent before heading out at sunset! And the next day, do NOT allow yourself to scratch your bug bites, or you’ll be sorry. Was cool to see a tarantula crossing the road as we headed toward Zacualpan, and a coati crossing just in front of us as we began our return from El Cora. Finally, we LOVED all the flowers! Hope to return to PLT!

fabulous accommodation in a spectacular location!
My husband and I spent 10 glorious days at Villa Reyes. The house is beautiful and very well equipped, it has everything! Maria and Mario were great hosts, they procured fresh fish and jumbo shrimp for us to cook and helped us out with suggestions on where to shop...even provided hand drawn maps and directions for a few places we were trying to locate! There are a few quaint little towns near PLT that are definitely worth a visit...friendly people, good food and very authentically mexican. The beach is amazing and pretty much deserted...if you’re looking to “get away from it all” this is the place for you!

A True Secret Paradise
Villa Reyes was even better than we expected! It was every bit of what the pictures show and then some. We did not now what to expect, as it seemed too good to be true; but, we arrived (after receiving very detailed driving directions and spot-on recommendations for rental cars and grocery shopping), we couldn't believe our eyes. It really is a secret paradise. Our family of four spent 9 nights here and will definitely return. Our boys were 8 and 10 and we like the adventure of getting to this location just as much as being there. We rented a car from Gecko and drove up from PV. It really is a 20-minute drive down a very rocky road to get to the villas. Playa Tortugas staff were there upon our arrival to show us around and answer questions, and they spoke great English. Dinner was waiting for us and we ate on the second floor patio overlooking the ocean. The house is great, very clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed, and we cooked most of our own meals. We ended up only having one dinner and one breakfast prepared for us, as we liked to explore markets and roadside stands and cook for ourselves. My boys got to practice their Spanish with all the locals this way and learned a lot from these interactions. The beach here is almost unbelievable. It is five miles of tranquility. Of the nine days we were there, there was maybe one or two days where there was anyone else on the beach with us! It is a short walk from the villa to the beach and we were able to run back easily when we forgot something. In March, the waves were pretty small, but great to play in. One of our sons rented a surfboard from PLT and used it daily. The other one used a body board all day and that was perfect too. We would take long walks and runs along the beach and literally not see anyone. And when there were people around--everyone was very friendly. The two swimming pools were beautiful as well and we were able to let the kids go to the larger one by themselves, since it was so close to the villa and we could see them from the patio. The lap pool was a treat too, and we spent a lot of time racing in it. We met other families there, many who return to PLT annually because it is truly a special place. You can stay there and have all your needs met, or you can venture out. My family and I would love to return here on a regular basis. It is one-of-a-kind.

We live in California just north of San Francisco and spend as much time in Mexico as possible. When not enjoying the beach in Playa Las Tortugas we are usually camping in the Sierras. We have three children in elementary, middle and high school. We love the nature in Mexico, people, culture and food!

Why they chose this property

We made four trips to Playa Las Tortugas and stayed in two different houses. We love La Villa Reyes because it's charming, so close to the beach and feels exactly how we would want a Mexico vacation home to be.

What makes this property unique

La Villa Reyes is a slice of perfect comfort in a lovely, peaceful part of Mexico. The house is well-appointed and private. There are no attached apartments or rooms or owners living near you - it's all yours. We love staying here and we hope you do too!
