About this property

Close to Oxford and Miami U. Pet friendly, and away from college shenanigans

Come stay at the historic Brown farm (circa 1818). The cottage is the farm’s original ice house, but is far from chilly. The cottage has been completely renovated, while saving a few historic details. We recently went solar and have an auto generator, so you can feel good about environmental impact, while never being disturbed by a power outage.

The cottage is best described as a studio apartment. It has a full kitchen, bedroom/living space and full bath (shower only). The bedroom/living space has a queen (medium firm) bed. The cottage is optimal for 2 guests; however, two inflatable twin mattresses are available for additional guests. It will be tight quarters with the inflatable beds, so be prepared for that.

Guests have access to a heated pool (May- October) and hot tub (year round).

Come enjoy our 14 acre property including our native prairie restoration project. Our stocked pond and paddle boat are there for you to enjoy along with a pond-side fire pit.

We are pet friendly ($20.00 fee), but do not have fencing to contain your furry friends. There are two dog parks close by and our entire property is available for leash walking.

We are less than 2 miles from uptown Oxford and Miami U, and 3 miles from Hueston Woods State Park which offers mountain biking trails, road riding, Acton Lake, hiking trails, horseback riding (summer only) a dog park and great birding. The Hueston Woods Lodge has a nice restaurant that rarely has a long wait.

Awesome Getaway!

The property was beautiful and perfectly placed. It was close enough to town for convenience but far enough away to feel secluded. Cathleen and Tom were very kind and have created a beautiful home to stay in! 10/10 would stay again!

Rejuvenating

What a beautiful and relaxing retreat. From watching the sun set over the field both nights, to walking through the glittering firefles near the pond. The pool and hot tub were both wonderful too. Would highly recommend staying here! Lovely oasis.

A Hidden Treasure

We wanted a place not too far from home just to unwind and relax. Adorable clean little cottage. Close to so many things - yet you feel like you are out far away. Beautiful land and pond that we walked several times with our dogs. Hosts were so kind and informative. We definitely will be back again to this little hidden gem!

Perfect stay

We have rented 15+ properties over the years on Vrbo including ocean front etc and this property is easily one of my favorites. The attention to detail with the guests in mind is near perfect. Gracious, kind, attentive host we felt welcomed and very comfortable. Hot tub and heated pool were amazing conveniently located outside our door. Gorgeous pond to relax by and or fish while enjoying the view of the lovely property. Literally 5 min drive to Mia of Oh, you would not believe it based on the serenity of the location. I it wish we could have stayed longer. Can’t wait to get back!! Thank you for having us!

Great place close to campus

My son and I stayed when visiting Miami for orientation. The cottage is clean and adorable. Super close and convenient to campus. The owners were very helpful. We will definitely be back!

Short Oxford stay

Moved our daughter back into her apartment and the hot tub and pool were so relaxing after a long day. The nearby field was lit up with fireflies…which was fantastic. Another nice stay here!

Perfect location for my needs

Easiest check in. Close to local foods. Close to my appointments the 2 days I was there. Had a stray flying bug but the fly swatter eventually won. This is my second time at this location. Some day I might actually get to use the pool or hot tub, but my visits are always so busy.

Great place!

We came into town to participate in a reunion concert at Miami and this was the perfect place! It was far enough away from campus not to hear any partying students, yet close enough to park uptown in 5 minutes. It was exactly as advertised - fully furnished, clean, and even has a hot tub, although we didn't use it. The hosts were available and responsive. No complaints! We will definitely be back for the next time we will be in town.

Ice House Cottage is great

My husband and I, along with our 2 year-old daughter and elderly dog stayed here for a long weekend to see the total eclipse. We had a wonderful time at the property, which was gorgeous, and Tom and Kathy were excellent hosts. Absolutely recommend to any small group looking to have a peaceful respite.

One Night Visit to Miami/Oxford

Wonderful place...responsive hosts, clean, tidy and comfortable. Great location - close to campus. The Farm is beautiful...perfect to walk the dog(s). I'll certainly rebook next time I'm in Oxford.

Tom is retired military and retired as an intelligence analyst with the National Geospatial Agency. Kathy retired from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. Kathy raised both of her children in Oxford and returned with Tom after working for a few years in Washington DC, including a stint with the US House of Representatives. We enjoyed renovating the original Brown family farmhouse where we now live with our dogs, Alika and Jeff. Oxford gets in your blood. It is a lovely town to visit, or to live in. We look forward to hosting and sharing this midwestern gem.

Why they chose this property

We are conveniently located just 1.5 miles from uptown Oxford and 2 miles from Miami U., yet our setting is rural and peaceful. Hueston Woods State Park is 3 miles north and offers hiking, golf, fishing, birding and a beautiful lodge and restaurant.

What makes this property unique

Location, location, location! We are also one of few pet friendly accommodations in Oxford. We are pet lovers and know it can be hard to leave your pets behind. We have a fenced area for our dogs. Our dogs are very accepting of other dogs; however, we are not liable for escapees or injuries due to doggy arguments. We also welcome other pets, except snakes: they freak Kathy out. We have 14 acres upon which to exercise your dogs, and you don’t need to pick up the poo! It all goes back to nature.
