Charming Traditional Cottages, Affordable and 'Travel Green'

Enjoy the classic simplicity of a traditional Door County cottage vacation, away from the stresses of everyday life. An unplugged Travel Green destination, the cottages have no television or wi-fi but offer a quiet setting where you can have a campfire, read a book, cook a meal with fresh local products, play board games and relax. If you do need to connect, most cell phones work with data and there is wi-fi at the coffee shop a few minutes walk from the cottages.

Terra Cottages is located near the tip of the peaceful northern Door Peninsula and a short walk from the little fishing port of Gills Rock and the new Mariners Park on the shores of Green Bay. Northern Door County is a favorite destination for kayaking, fishing, hiking, cycling and swimming with it's many parks beaches and hiking and biking trails.The excursion boat to Washington Island, Charlies fresh and smoked fish, The popular Shoreline restaurant, and the Door County Maritime Museum are among the things that make Gills Rock a special place to stay.

We are just a short drive from the rugged, unspoiled beauty of Newport State Park, a semi-wilderness area offering hiking, swimming, and nature activities. The many performances, restaurants, galleries and shops throughout Door County are also easily accessible.

While staying with us you take one of the regular fishing charters that leave the village daily or enjoy a crossing on an excursion boat across the beauty of Death’s Door Passage to Washington Island, the oldest Icelandic settlement in North America.

Perfect Romantic Getaway

We stayed in this cottage for our anniversary. The location was perfect for spending time together without the hustle and bustle of every day life. We chatted with the other couples staying in the other cottages over coffee or drinks at night. Although the weather didn't cooperate for many outdoor activities, we were able to find enough things to do in the surrounding areas. I would highly recommend staying in this cottage!

Nice cottage in Gilles Rock

It was accurately described. Bathroom was tight, but expected. Loved the location! Bedding and beds were comfortable. Sophie was quick to help and communicate.

Just a wonderful little group of cottages. We loved our stay , except my wife would get up at 5am to start the coffee going cause it took a hour and 45 minutes .lol our dogs loved it too. Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful place. Kevin and Joann

Cozy, Clean little cottage

We were looking for something away from the hustle and bustle of DC yet close enough to have a short drive to parks, fish boils, orchards, Washington Island, etc. This place was the perfect location. We loved the little touches - cherry tart on our arrival, fresh cut flowers, and lovely lavender scented soaps. We also loved that we could bring our little dog with us. Sophie was very responsive when we had a question about an outlet adapter and promptly sent her husband with something (most of the outlets are not grounded and therefore couldn't handle a 3 prong plug). We definitely would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet getaway!

Just Right

This is a peferct cabin for a quiet stay in Door Co. We loved it. We had everything we needed plus a cherry tart to welcome us. No TV and limited phone service was a perfect break. The cabin is aged with charm.

Cute little cottage

We enjoyed our stay in cottage #2. It seemed to be the smallest of the 4 cottages, but for the 2 of us it was fine. With the limited seating, I wouldn't want to stay there with 4 adults, and if you're a reader, the lighting is not great. The only real problem I had was with the 2 rather large steps up to the front door. I have knee issues (hope to get a new knee soon), and those steps were high. A railing along at least one side would have made a big difference. The kitchen seemed well stocked, but we didn't do any cooking, so I can't comment too much. We did spend some time on the patio and that was very nice.

Perfect getaway!

We enjoyed the peaceful quiet pace of northern Door County very much. The cottage was perfect for our needs and Sophie is a great host, answering all my questions promptly. There is no wifi or tv and we didn't miss any of it a bit. There aren't many places to walk to but the drives are beautiful.

Perfect fall getaway

Our group of four friends enjoyed a peaceful and very quiet long weekend at cabin 3. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. Having a gas fireplace and heater were awesome amenities for fall weather. The host was responsive and gave clear information. Also a little cherry tart and ground coffee surprise on arrival made our day! We hope to stay again.

Perfect getaway

If you want a qwaint getaway this is the place! it had everything you needed and plus it was close to shopping and restaurants. Even a five minute drive to Washington Island you could take the ferry and see the beauty it has to offer! We’ll be back! Sincerely Dan Smith

Amazing cottage that was dog friendly! The water view was not ideal unless you rented Cottage 4 which we did not😞We will be looking for water view next time.

Enjoyed our stay.

We enjoyed our stay, cute little cottage in a quiet area! We had 4 adults and 2 dogs for. 3 night stay. There was some fuse issues and we lost hot water for 2 of the days but personally wasn’t a big issue as it was warm out the cool shower was refreshing.. If you stay in cottage 1 with a dog they may find some rawhide bones my dog hid in the brush! I would love to stay again in the fall!

Very nice quiet cabin

I love the cabin, the location is quiet but not far to drive to do stuff,coffee shop near by. Restaurants and grocery store in driving distance. Pet friendly. I probably going to stay there again.The owner also very nice!

Built in 1946 by a founding fishing family with lumber from the surrounding cedar trees and recently remodeled, the cottages preserve the original layout while offering comfortable accommodations and a relaxing atmosphere.
Bought in 2001 by a Door County native who was living in New York City at the time, with the idea of offering a restorative and safe environment close to nature and the beautiful landscapes of the Northern Peninsula.
