We loved the country side experience.
The moment we pulled up, Lindy was out welcoming us to Lynric Fold and made us feel very welcomed. Both Lindy and Rick are warm, friendly and thoughtful. The cottage is comfortable, cosy and well equipped. Lyndric Fold is a slice of paradise. Thankyou very much for sharing. All the best.

Peaceful, clean and a delight
The setting is north-facing, to bush and a rocky-bedded stream. Apart from the occasional sound from some friendly animal, you hear burbling water and wind in the trees. Inside everything is ‘proper’ and well maintained. The fire has copious supplies of dry wood replenished daily, from trees on the property. The couches are comfy and the kitchen is well-appointed. Ōkaihau is 10 or 12 kms away and has cafes and stores. It is a lovely small traditional NZ town. Village? The location is convenient for all the destinations in the area whether Ngawha Springs, Kaikohe and all spots around the Hokianga.

Peaceful getaway
Lovely place to base ourselves for a wedding in Kerikeri. Very quiet and peaceful with everything we needed. We are animal lovers so were very happy to have Max the dog come for a visit, and enjoyed birdspotting.

Northern Trip
Cottage was perfect. Well equipped warm and comfortable. Hosts were welcoming and kept us stocked up with wood for the fire. The Public road may be a bit of a challenge for some - winding and a shingle section with large potholes but lovely private snuggly cottage at the end of the day suited us perfectly.

LYNRIC FOLD, HOME AWAY FROM HOME
My sisters and I rented Lynric Fold Cottage for 3 nights stay, and after a very long journey, it was such a tremendous pleasure to arrive at this lovely place owned by Lynley and Rick who are the absolute perfect hosts. Both Lynley and Rick are so friendly, so warm and so very welcoming, we were made to feel right at home, straight away. This lovely place has a beautiful countryside with trees, streams and the most gorgeous Scottish highland cows with a gorgeous soft looking shaggy fur, that just makes one want to go up and cuddle them. Oh, and we cannot overlook their friendly dog Max who came and greeted us every morning very warmly, that we couldn't resist stroking and patting him, he certainly earned it. We also enjoyed many of the local attractions namely Paihia, Waitangi House, Kaikohe, Matauri Bay, Kerikeri and many other areas with their beautiful displays of forestry, streams, bridges, valleys, animals etc... Unfortunately, one day while in Kerikeri, some lowlife stole our car, which spoilt an otherwise perfect stay at Lynric Fold. Both Lynley and Rick on hearing of our mishap, showed us genuine concern and even offered to come pick us up from Kerikeri; fortunately, however we had local whanau support. But their love and care did not end there, Lynley and Rick, lit the fire, closed our curtains and turned the lights on for us, and brought us a bunch of flowers, so when we arrived home we truly felt valued and that we were returning to our Home away from Home. Thank you so very much Rick and Lynley, you truly are the best and we would whole-heartedly recommend you and your beautiful Lynric Fold to the wider world. Should we be returning to this area, we would definitely be returning to Lynric Fold. Nga mihi mahana nga mihi aroha, nga mihi kotahitanga ki a korua i nga wa katoa. Perfect NZ cottage experience
Tucked away between Okaihau and Horeke, this beautiful cottage is a slice of paradise. Lindy and Rick are kind and lovely people. The cottage has everything you need for a perfect getaway. The place is pristine and clean. The cottage has some beautiful artwork that will inspire you. The highland cattle are so cute too. We had a great view of stars from the living room. After a long day of travel, we were pleased to be able to enjoy a good rest and a warm shower. I highly recommend this cottage for families as they have two big bedrooms and a great kitchen and living area. This is one of those places that looks so many times better than the pictures in reality :)

Far north trip
The property was nice and roomy with good facilities. Native bush nearby created a nice outdoor atmosphere. A sunny and comfortable house. It was a little out of the way which could also be a benefit.

Cosy and tranquil retreat
Private, well maintained, comfortable cottage, with everything you need for a quiet retreat in nature. Unrelenting rain meant lots of time indoors with the fire on reading, so sadly didn't get a chance to explore the beautiful bush much or the nearby cycle trail. Would happily return! Lovely, helpful hosts who checked in and delivered firewood daily, but otherwise left me to my own devices.

About the host

Hosted by Lindy Mason & Rick Atkinson

Host profile image
Rick & Lindy are a couple in their 60s & 70s, who "retired" to Northland from jobs in Wellington. We lived in this cottage up until a few years ago, when we finally completed our new home further up the hill. We have cleared and fenced the land ourselves and now we enjoy the results of our hard work!

Why they chose this property

Initially moving to Northland to be a little closer to family, we chose this property as we loved the bush setting, with the small river at the bottom. We are both from farming backgrounds so this was not completely new to either of us, and we had been looking for a farm further south prior to moving here.

What makes this property unique

The property is set in a tranquil bush setting - away from the hustle of the towns. You can enjoy a peaceful, quiet time at the cottage, or head in to the surrounding towns for more excitement!
Sit on the deck at night and listen to the Morepork all around, or watch the amazing kaleidoscope of stars in the night sky!
