About this property

Cosy Barn In lovely quiet location In The Brecon Beacons

Beiliglas Barn is a refurbished two bedroom converted barn in a quiet part of the Beacons National Park. Sleeps four. It is comfortable and light, with many character features including flag floors, white stone walls, oak beams and vaulted ceiling. Underfloor heating and wood stove ensure it is cosy in winter.

The barn is in a rural setting 100m from a minor road. It is across the yard from the owner's house, but is quite separate and private. There is a secluded garden in the rear. A public access path from the door leads across farmland directly to Myddfai Mountain and the ranges of the Brecon Beacons beyond. The historic village of Myddfai is a 15 minute walk on quiet roads or across fields (or 3 minute drive). The nearby town of Llandovery is 3 miles away with a supermarket (open till 8 PM) and a few specialty shops and services. Ideal for couples, and families wanting to mix a lovely rural location with visits to local attractions. The cottage has been graded 4 stars by 'Visit Wales'. See note on dogs below. Cottage is no-smoking. There is a key box - so guests free to arrive as suits.

Guests have said that they appreciate flexibility with booking, as I am able to offer two and three night breaks and longer.

DOGS:
Dogs are welcome in the cottage. There are stone floors in the main rooms.
Please note, the cottage is next to fields with sheep, and there is a large unfenced pond on site. The garden is not enclosed, so dogs need to be on a lead. As is common with holiday lets, pets are not to go on beds or sofas, or be left alone in the cottage. Please also bring bags to clean up dog mess.
There are a few woodland walks nearby where dogs can go off their leads.

Perfect stay in a cosy cottage
This was the perfect location for our stay, being a close drive to the many walks in the area. The cottage is charming and cosy. It is in a quiet and picturesque location and has a lovely garden to sit in to have breakfast or an evening drink. There is a supermarket within a 10 minute drive. The village of Llandovery is interesting to have a look around, we had a delicious lunch at The Bear Inn. Janice was very helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Tranquil green retreat
Beiliglas farm is situated in very quiet tranquil location surrounded by the greenest of greens - forests, pastures and the mountains of the Brecon Beacons. The cottage was perfect and has been furnished to feel comfortable and homely. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking. Although the weather was cold we felt super cosy thanks to the underfloor heating. It was in a perfect location for walking in the Brecon Beacons. There were walks directly from the cottage and it was about 30 to 40 minutes to drive to the start of Pen Y Fan and Llyn y fan fach walks which we highly recommend. Janice and Justin are warm, friendly and helpful hosts.

Idyllic hideaway with beautiful surroundings
Firstly thank you to Janice for being such an accommodating host. We had car problems when we arrived and she helped us out by taking us to the shops for food supplies. The barn itself was lovely - the photos do not do it justice! The accommodation was clean and Janice made sure we had everything we needed. Along with the beautiful scenery and walks from the doorstep this had everything we wanted. Thank you again Janice and we hope you’ll have us back to stay again.

Wonderful stay in Wales in lovely cottage with everything you need. The setting is very pastoral with sheep in the next field and the beautiful Welsh countryside. Best way to end our vacation
We absolutely loved our stay at Janice’s cozy cottage. It was so quiet that we could hear the sheep several fields away and the wind in the trees. The beds were so comfy and we enjoyed the classic games and movies but especially the fireplace. We enjoyed making meals, taking walks and just relaxing. Both hosts had awesome suggestions on where to go for local food, trails and sites which were all within a short drive. My husband and I talk about coming back in the future. We love Myddfai.

A quiet retreat
A very well equipped facility. We tend to prepare meals on site and were lacking nothing. Comfortable bed and a good kitchen. Janice is a good host too. We will add this to our list of return places. Many thanks. Although you are away from the main towns this cottage is within 4.5 miles of an Indian and Chinese takeaway, if you feel the need. Might try Miz Spice ourselves next time.

Memorable stay in charming cottage
This converted farm building looked wonderful in the photos and we certainly were not disappointed. It was well equipped, had rustic charm and a large, colourful cottage garden. We were very lucky with the weather which meant we ate every meal outdoors. Janice was very hospitable and accommodating. The only way which we could think of which would make it even better is a trampoline for the kids!

Tranquility
From the moment we arrived until the day we had to leave, this charming little cottage is a true gem, perfect if you are after some peace and isolation. The owners really go out of their way to ensure that everything you could want is available, and if it isn't they have made it clear that they welcome any suggestions to improve, they are a most welcoming couple and really understand how to provide that "get away" experience you want: there if you need them, not there if you don't. The cottage is lovely and clean and is a perfect base for going exploring around the local area. Just be aware that it is surrounded by very narrow roads so have your wits about you when you're driving in case a vehicle is coming the other way - not often because it is so quiet but not completely unlikely. In any case there are passing places on the roads so take it easy and you'll be alright. Overall this was a lovely experience and we shall definitely be returning sometime to recharge our batteries again!

Absolute Magic!
This listing doesn’t do this gem justice! It is beautiful, we’ll-designed, cozy, and scenic. When I initially saw the photos I thought it might be cold and dark, but the in-floor heating and ample windows make the property bright and warm. It’s the perfect hygge get-away. My toddler and I loved exploring the property, and Janice was a wonderful host. Now I understand why most of her guests are return visitors. If we ever have the luck to visit Wales we’ll make a special trip to Myddfai to stay here! Thank you, Janice!

About the host

Host profile image
We purchased the property in 2010 and refurbished the cottage to combine modern convenience while retaining the property's character. We live in a farmhouse on the property, but have designed the cottage to give privacy and a quiet experience for the guests. The cottage is restricted by the planning authority for holiday letting only, with a maximum 31 day rental.

We are happy to offer advice about the area. We are keen walkers, and have prepared a series of walks from the cottage. Let me know if you are interested in anything in particular, and I will see if I can point you in the right direction.

We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years and hope we have put our list of 'likes' and 'dislikes' to good use: comfortable beds, nice linen, sharp knives, hot showers, warm when the weather turns cold, and flexibility with booking dates.

The local community hall in Myddfai Village is popular for weddings, as well as other celebrations and events. Lesley and the team do a great job getting the word out about what a great venue it is, and many guests stay in the cottage. Do mention when booking if you are with a wedding for a special luxury bath gift from Myddfai Trading Co - a local social enterprise giving work opportunities to adults with learning difficulties.

You are welcome to make a general enquiry for more information, and to find out from me the best way to proceed with a booking.

Why they chose this property

We love this part of Wales, which combines beautiful countryside, clear skies, peace and tranquility. While you feel far from crowds, it is easy to get to, being a short drive from the A40 and nearby Llandovery. It is also well placed to visit the Welsh coast, castles, the Brecon and Cambrian mountains, Hay-on-Wye, the Gardens of Carmarthenshire, and many other attractions.
It is a farming community where both Welsh and English are heard. Welsh learners are made welcome too.
The area has a fascinating history in the 'Physicians of Myddfai' and the legend of the 'Lady of the Lake'. The local village hall has lots of information about the area, and friendly volunteers in the cafe/craft shop.
For those that want a bit of city life, Swansea is 1 & Cardiff 1.25 hours. Cinema in Carmarthen.

What makes this property unique

If you enjoy walking or cycling, you have some fantastic countryside on your doorstep.
The cottage is close to the village. The Myddfai Village hall/cafe is open 6 days a week (5 in winter) to pop in for tea or lunch. It is ideal accommodation for those attending weddings, receptions or parties in the village. There is a lovely craft shop which features unique local crafts for all budgets.
The property has underfloor heating, so is comfortable in winter and will be warm on arrival. Guests can programme heat themselves.
The wood burning stove in the main room makes it extra cosy. Welsh wool quilts are provided in the bedrooms.
The cottage is all on one level, with parking at the door if you like. There are no steps once inside the cottage. There is a private shaded garden with a picnic table and bistro chairs.
