Our family, 11 of us ranging from ages 19 months to 85 years old, made plans to travel to Tuscany to celebrate our Mom’s 85th birthday. She had never been to Italy and really wanted to see Florence and the other Tuscan towns. In addition to being tourists, we wanted some down time to relax, visit and catch up with each other, so we were delighted to find Casa Eden on VRBO. With its 7 bedrooms and 4.5 baths, it fit us perfectly. Chiara was very prompt in answering our questions. Still, we were amazed to see the 300-400 year old farmhouse, which is set among the olive groves and vineyards on the side of a hill/mountain above Vinci, with views that are breathtaking. We loved sitting on the terrace in the fall sunshine with the breezes or at night looking out over the lights in the valley below.
Chiara and Ian were perfect hosts – they met us on our arrival and led us up to Casa Eden. We had a welcome basket with their organic olive oil and red and white wine. And of course, plenty of red and white wine. They made sure there were options for my vegetarian nephew – making him a special spinach frittata. We joined in the preparations and visited with Chiara and Ian as they shared recommendations for places to visit, taking trains, parking in Empoli, where to shop in Vinci, etc.
The bedrooms are spacious, beds are comfortable, the baths are updated and the kitchen is large enough to hold many different people coming in and out fixing breakfast. The kitchen is well equipped – had everything we needed. There are gates at the top of each of the two flights of steps, which kept my grandson well contained. We also had a high chair, a high stool and option of a cot for him. My mom has some mobility issues, but was able to navigate the stairs with the handrails. Plus the half bath on the ground floor was quite handy. The house held the different generations very well.
The farmhouse was well situated to see various parts of Tuscany. We drove 30 minutes to Empoli, parked in the carpark and took the train for 30 minutes to Florence. Carpark and train costs were very reasonable. We also drove to Pisa, Lucca, Volterra, and San Gimignano. We really enjoyed the days we explored Vinci and saw the L
