About this property

House with Stunning Ocean View

This home is a welcoming retreat for artists and anyone who values quiet and seclusion. It is decorated in an eclectic mix of antique items (including a cannister set from the 1880's once belonging to my great-grandparents in the Netherlands) to original works of modern art. The open concept mini home was renovated in 2021/22 to provide everything you could hope for in a vacation home: A/C, updated kitchen, sliding doors to a huge screen room, woodstove and ensuite bathroom. Please note - the house is on a steep hill so if you are towing a heavy trailer, or your vehicle needs a brake job - this may not be the rental for you.

Great stay
The seal dealer was the enclosed veranda. 2 full bathrooms, 2 bedrooms and a very comfortable, enjoyable open concept kitchen/living room area. Loved watching the nature as well as the lobster boats and freighters going past. Great central place for going to different areas. Excellent food choices, especially The Cove (3 times). Would love to come back and definitely recommend to anyone looking for a wonderful place to stay.

Great place!
Wonderful, small place which was exactly what we were looking for. We used it as a base to explore Cape Breton Trail. Master bedroom very nice en suite. Spare bedroom very small. Great woodburning stove! And view was nice.

Mulgrave, NS visit
Well kept, older modular home. The place grew on me. It was early spring so the straight was readily visible. The driveway is quite steep. We didn't have any trouble getting up but it not for the faint of heart. The gas grill was a great feature. Wifi worked well. We visited "Authentic Seacoast"/Rare bird brewing and had a great time.

An inviting sanctuary
We stayed 26 nights with our dog. The cottage itself was clean, up to date and well outfitted (new, soft beds!). The property is very private, heavily wooded and with great sight lines to the water. It is actually located in Steep Creek, about 4-5 miles from Mulgrave proper (and the nearest coffee shop). Google has it wrong. The sole road there (Rte 344) doesn't have much of a shoulder so we had to drive everywhere, including for dog walks. Having an electrical outlet (lighting) on the porch and a couple of folding chairs to sit outside (the weather was lovely) would be plusses. Don't overlook the 5km trail in Mulgrave and extensive trails in Port Hawkesbury; the Cove Motel on the water in nearby Aulds Cove is a good choice for a superior meal.

Cottage with water view
The cottage was perfect for taking daily outings to the surrounding area including an easy access to the Cabot trail. The house was super clean. We were even greeted with a bald eagle fly by on arrival. As other reviews have noted, be sure to stop by the Front Porch for coffee and goodies.

Lovely private house with beautiful views
Our stay at Steep Creek was very enjoyable and relaxing. The house was clean, tidy, and in great condition. Looks like there have been many upgrades done inside and out. Karen read one of Rennys books (Garden Girl) while we were there and really liked the book. We would not hesitate to recommend this home. Thanks for sharing Woodsong cottage Renny. Karen and Gary

Nice place but need to replace the beds. Really liked having two washrooms for four adults. It was unfortunate that it rained so much. I would rent again if I was coming back to the area.

Great launch point for our exploration.
Renny’s place is exactly as advertised. Great view and excellent positioning for our daylong exploration. Renny provided some excellent insight into nearby places (beaches and an island) to visit. We particularly liked the beach she recommended (Point Michaud). A beautiful and tranquil Nova Scotia beach. One place we enjoyed that we happened upon was the Musgrave Museum. The gentleman who runs the facility was a true pleasure to visit with and learn some history about the surrounding area. We found Renny’s place to offer good value and a great base for our daily pursuits.

We came here for a quiet weekend and this rental was exactly what we were looking for. It was far enough from the road that we could take the kids outside for a walk and even got to see some local wildlife!

A wonderful rental
This was an amazing trip. Itall started with this rental. After one day, we considered it home, not just a place to stay. The house was very clean and well stocked. We brought some stuff that we didn't need to because it was so well stocked. The internet was awesome for being away from major centers. The beds were comfortable, There was not one thing I wouldn't give 5 stars to (except the driveway which was a 3 just because it was steep). It was close to everything we wanted (Cape Breton) and we found a lovely little cafe in Mulgrave (The Front Porch) which was great for breakfast. And the stunning ocean view? The view from the screened porch was awesome. First day saw multiple Bald Eagles. The ultimate compliment I could give this rental? I would absolutely go back!

Perfect Get-a-way
Woodsong Cottage was a quaint home away from home. Very clean and perfect location for meeting up with our friends who have recently moved to the Canso Strait Area. Having this cottage as our jumping off point to explore the area was perfect. Yes the driveway is quite steep but our truck and trailer had no issues. Bringing our ATV's to explore the local trails was great and lots of room to offload/reload at the cottage. Renny was super great to communicate with and we met her property manager, Mary and her husband, when they stopped in to make sure we accessed the property ok - thanks for the early admittance to use the facilities - the drive from NB was a stretch! Thank you again for a great little get-a-way, we only wish we could have stayed longer!

Amazing
We had an awesome time staying at Renny’s cottage. It was so clean and had everything we needed. Renny was always quick to respond and assisted us immediately with any questions we had. Although we weren’t there much in the day we still managed to truly enjoy the property. I can’t say anything negative about our stay here, it was truly amazing and we will never forget it!!

Clean, secluded, good location for our purposes
Very clean, perfect for our purposes, which was to take day trips to 1) Cape Breton, 2) PEI, 3) Halifax. We didn't remain during the day, we were always gone. We mainly just slept there. If you can, go to Charlene's Bayside Diner on the road to Sydney - the very best seafood chowder I have ever had. We love ferries; and there are several nearby. We saw a heron, eagles, a fox, but no moose on this trip. The drive is steep but no problem for our car, a Honda Clarity - I suggest staying as much to the left as you can in the bottom half of the drive, as there are some large-ish rocks that will kick up in the right lane. But no harm done.

Beautiful spot
This was a great spot! Everything was perfect and we felt we were living in the lap of luxury. The view from the screened in deck was awesome and so restful watching the water traffic. The linens and kitchen facilities were top notch. We stayed here as a jumping off point for a tour of Cape Breton Island- perfect. Highly recommended!
