About this property

Quiet village location in beautiful valley close to Kilmartin, Argyll. Sleeps 4, dog friendly

Trevenek is a detached single storey cottage, situated in the little village of Slockavullin in the historic Kilmartin Glen, Argyll, an area of outstanding archaeological importance and one of Scotland’s richest prehistoric landscapes.

Forest and canal-side walks are all within easy access, and the nearby Crinan Harbour offers water-based activities, including fishing and sailing trips. There are also many restaurants in the area, including the Crinan Hotel, famous for its seafood.

The cottage is entirely on the ground floor, with step free access and has a parking space at the front. The cosy front room has a wood-fired stove, TV/DVD player and CD. The kitchen diner has an electric oven and hob, microwave cooker, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. A small study provides a working area with internet access for the holiday-maker’s own laptop or tablet, and phone (incoming and emergency outgoing calls only).

One bedroom has twin beds which are normally placed together with a king-sized duvet over both. There is an option to request the beds to be separated with their own single duvets if required. The smaller bedroom has a standard size double bed. The bathroom has bath and over-bath electric shower. Heating is via storage heaters and wood burner.

The cottage is at the top of the village, and final access is via an un-metalled road - drivers are advised to take the road slowly and carefully. A secluded area in the back garden provides a seating area.

Cyclists may wish to know that the cottage is near to West Highland cycling routes passing through Kilmartin, and that there is a bike awning (out of sight from the front) where bikes can be locked.

A small public green immediately in front of the cottage provides an additional playing space for children.

Dogs are very welcome but because of free-range chickens and other livestock would need to be kept on a lead when in the outside vicinity and we would ask guests to note that the front garden is unenclosed, and that a small dog which is unsupervised might be able to get through the fencing/bushes which enclose the back garden. Guests may therefore wish to keep their dogs on a lead out in the garden.

Kilmartin village, a pleasant 30 minute walk or 5 minute drive away, has the Kilmartin Hotel (which as well as a pub and hotel serving meals can organise fishing and sea trips). The renowned Kilmartin House Museum offers fascinating exhibits including The Valley of Ghosts audio-visual experience, and has a bookshop and award winning café.

Lochgilphead is eight miles away, and has a supermarket, delicatessen, wine shop, gift shops and a well-stocked book shop. There is a swimming pool, and a doctors’ surgery. Although there is a limited bus which serves Slockavullin, a car is recommended to make full use of the many activities available in the area.

You well behaved dog is welcome, maximum two dogs.

Private car parking is available.

Strictly no parties, hen or stag parties. No smoking.

Smoke alarms, CO alarm, fire extinguishers, kitchen fire blanket, emergency lighting, torches available at exits and in hallway.

Use of cleaning chemicals that are effective against Covid, Linens, towels and laundry washed in accordance with local authority guidelines, Guest accommodation is disinfected between stays.

Lovely cottage
The cottage was fine. Comfy, clean and well located. Track a bit bumpy but we were warned about this. We had beautiful weather which made all the difference to our experience.

Small village time warp
Very nice, nice cottage. Water and plants everywhere, could use some gravel on the driveway. This was disclosed in the information, but going slowly was the ticket. Washer and dryer was great we stayed for a week and with a load we were ready for the next stay. Being 70 liked the fact of no stairs.

No title
Best thing about this cottage is the location, being able to walk through the bluebells in the woods to Kilmartin Glen. kitchen very well equipped, garden very small and not secure for dogs. Inside the house is quite dark, being built into the hillside

Lovely cottage in the perfect location
We spent 5 days at Trevenek and had the best time. Clean, well-equipped and in a beautiful, quiet location, it was perfect. It is in easy walking distance to many of the incredible archaeologic sites in Kilmartin glen and situated in a gorgeous hamlet. The cottage has everything you need for; a well-equipped kitchen, really comfy beds and a range of books/DVDs for relaxing in the evening. I loved sitting out in the garden in the evening sunshine and just enjoying the birdsong.

Family holiday
The only down side to our trip was that we had asked for the beds to be split in to a twin room for our children, unfortunately this was not done and they had to share a double bed. However the cottage is excellent value for money and we would book again

Perfect little hideaway
Tucked away at the top of the village this little cottage was comfortable and had a very well equipped kitchen. The pictures don't do it justice, it's great place. A lovely walk to Kilmartin (20 minutes if you find an overgrown shortcut through the back wood). My top tip, take birdseed for the feeders and breakfast becomes a fantastic show of local birdlife.

Gemütliches Cottage in traumhafter Lage.

Comfortable cottage in good location.
An attractive perfectly proportioned cottage with a spacious and well equipped kitchen, perfect for gathering around the table at the end of a day for a meal , drinks , a board game and reflecting on the lovely places we visited, and plan to visit. The sitting room was cosy and warm with books to borrow and DVD,s to watch. Plus lots of information on places to visit etc. The bedrooms and bathroom were a good size and ,again ,had everything required for comfortable week away from home.

Nice cottage in small village right in the middle of Kilmartin glen
A cosy cottage, useful layout with large kitchen and bedrooms in separate 'wing' so they are quiet. Easy walking and cycling access to all the archaeological sites of Kilmartin.

Pleasant stay
A lovely cottage with all the essentials for a relaxing and pleasant stay. Great for touring the area, visiting the many neolithic sites (within walking distance), wildlife spotting along the coast or having some get away from it all quiet time.

Short stay at Trevenek
Despite not so great weather, we had a wonderful stay at Trevenek. It is a beautiful, very well appointed and sparklingly clean cottage, tucked away in Slockavulin yet close to all of the places we wanted to visit. It was fantastic to have cosy evenings with the log burner on after a day exploring in the rain. Highly recommend - we’ll be back.

September in Argyll
The cottage was warm and comfortable with all the facilities required. The water pressure is too low for a shower but there was plenty of hot water for a bath. The small garden was a sheltered sun trap in the afternoon. The cottage is well located, within 30 minutes walk of Kilmartin and all the ancient monuments. It was also an easy walk to Moine Mhor nature reserve and Carnasserie Castle. There is a lot to do and see within a 30 minute drive. Lochgilphead has a good range of shops. We enjoyed our week in Argyll.

Traditional cottage in quiet location
Well equipped cosy cottage located in a quiet small village. Log burner with fuel provided and electric radiators. Comfortable king sized bed. Comprehensive Covid measures in place. Within walking distance to Standing stones and Cairns. Close to National Cycle Route 78, easy cycling access to Kilmartin Glen and Crinan Canal. Nearest supermarket (Co-op) in Lochgilphead 8 miles away. Great take away cafe at Crinan Hotel.

Treveneck Cottage
I had a lovely holiday in Kilmartin Glen, shame about the weather. However, it's Scotland so you have to get on with it! I have a couple of niggles with the cottage ... the rubber bath mat needs replaced, it's brown and slimy on the underside, I tried unsuccessfully to clean it. The vax vacuum needs a bit of love, the head falls off the handle and the handle comes to pieces during use and the bag/filters need replaced, most frustrating (and whiffy!). As I said, just niggles and easily sorted. I would recommend to others, with a caveat about the access road.

Trevenek cottage - a great place to stay.
Trevenek cottage is certainly bigger than it looks from the outside with everything you would need for a pleasant and comfortable stay. We would definitely stop here again as it is ideally situated for us when visiting relatives nearby and accessing the beautiful scenic countryside and places of interest.

Great Base
Super little cottage, well maintained with everything we could need. Lots of extras included like tea and coffee, toilet and kitchen rolls, cleaning products. Quiet location with excellent walks for the dog, short drive or 30min walk from Kilmartin. Pub served excellent food and is dog friendly too. We used the cottage as a base to explore Argyll and the Islands, exceptionally beautiful area, we will be returning to explore more.
