Was looking for a place that I could enjoy nature, play with my dog, cook over an open fire and do a little shooting without having to deal with the people you get at public ranges. This Cabin has everything. Great views, nice little bunk bed setup to put your sleep mat, loft. It snowed during my stay and was absolutely gorgeous. One tip, bring a propane heater if going during the winter. The wood stove gets a bit Smokey even with the flu adjusted perfect. Great place will definitely get back this year for a few days.
Place was as advertised. Quiet, serene, confident for fishing, hiking, and target shooting. Owner is very communicable and responsive. Highly recommend!
This was was a amazing cabin with tons of wildlife an a two minute walk to the river as well as a pond an shooting range the views were stunning with lots of things to see on hikes an nearby owner was great as well gave perfect directions to get there and information on all the things to do around the area as well as a helpful list of what to remember to pack for your stay I highly recommend this place to everyone it was one of the best places I have ever stayed an can't wait to come visit again
We enjoyed the cabin, the shooting range and the river. The firepit was a mud pit, suggest putting a load of stone around it. The porta john hadn't been cleaned in a while. But overall it was a good time.
PRO's:
-The cabin was great.
-Enjoyed Fishing
-Enjoyed shooting
-Local folks were super nice
CON's:
-Grass could have been cut/trimmed
-Porta Jon could have been pumped
Unexpected:
-While well of the beaten path, it was not as secluded as I expected. There were folks in a house across the river and I think maybe a camp site down the road. Lots of 4 wheelers.
I enjoyed my weekend and I will be back!
Beautiful rustic spot in the woods. Weather was so nice we slept on the screened in porch. Check in was easy and the directions to the property were easy to follow. Loved being in nature with NO CELL PHONES.
We spent most of our time floating and playing in the river, which is right in front of the cabin. The water is clean and deep. The land is expansive and lovely. The cabin is as described - basic and adequate - I especially liked the large screened porch. I hope to return soon!
Rare to find such a nice cabin with river access and it's own private catfish pond. Peaceful setting with abundant nature. Great place to unplug and refresh!
If the rating of the "accuracy of the online listing" didn't effect the score negatively, I would rate it a 1. The online listing does not do this place justice at all! It is so much more than the pictures or the description would lead you to believe. It is a local escape that seems like it is in the middle of nowhere. If you like 100% nature and no city whatsoever, this is the place! BEAUTIFUL! And Joe was so easy to work with Available if you need him but leaves you to your vacay otherwise. We will most definitely be back!!!
Don't get me wrong, we love our spouses and children, but sometimes....we'll, you just need to go away for a long weekend.
Seriously, though, on to the review. Loved it. Remote enough to where we didn't hear anything, but close enough to civilization that if you REALLY need a pizza you can run and get one.
Fishing...too late in the year to catch anything, but WILL be nice at other times of the year.
Shooting....nice set-up.
Star gazing... beautiful.
Cabin itself.....awesome. no concerns or issues. Numerous extra amenities and goodies throughout. Only thing that would make it better would be a LazyBoy recliner and onsite chef,,,,but hey, "camping",
Thanks!
Everything was as expected, cabin was even nicer than photos (rustic cabin with bunks for the boys). It was a couple of cold May nights so we had the wood stove going which helped. Bring all your camping supplies and air mattresses! We did get off and on rain so site was pretty muddy around campfire as the area has recently been cleared. But it was what we wanted, off grid experience for the kids! We enjoyed some fishing and shooting (great shooting range!) coming in off Eddie Mill Rd right prior to the stream you cross is a large rock In the road. If you don’t have a larger truck you will bottom out on it, if you go down road 20’ you can take a more gradual road in! Thanks for the stay we hope to come back!
My sons and I had another great stay. We love the solitude, fishing, shooting range and Hiking. Joe is an excellent host and we will definitely be back - again.
Was a nice little cabin quite cozy and in a great location, enjoyed my stay the cabin was more then I expected can’t wait to come back!

Great remote cabin
Jonathan’s cabin is an awesome, remote spot. It’s very rustic and in a great location to camp and unwind. We had some trouble getting into contact with him, but we had an amazing weekend at this cabin. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a rustic place to stay for a camping trip.
Had great time. Great place to get away from the day to day grind. Very relaxing. Cabin was clean all necessities were if I needed anything. Looking forward to booking another get away.

A rustic retreat
Joe's place was perfect for what we had planned, a 14 mile kayak down the Cacapon. He was quick to respond to my questions about river condiions and even allowed me to leave a vehicle there for our take out.

Why they chose this property
This rental offers more for your money than any other similar priced option. Unlike other properties, this property offers renters a chance to unplug from modernity and camp in the relative comfort of a rustic river cabin. Enjoy over 200 acres of adjoining rural mountain land, trails, scenic views, the Cacapon River, a stocked pond, and a creek. For the sportsmen, there is a private shooting range (request authorization to use and sign waiver...use is not guaranteed and at sole discretion of owner), a canoe, and fishing in both the pond and river (WV license required for river and can be purchased online for a single day pass). In the winter, warm yourself by the wood stove. In the summer kick back and relax on the fully screened in porch.
What makes this property unique
The cabin is situated on a large track of land offering beautiful walks with 360 degree unobstructed views of the Allegheny Mountains and waterfrontage along the Cacapon River, which is one of the best kept scenic secrets of the Mid-Atlantic region. For paddlers, there are great float trips for both canoes and kayaks to the cabin from local state put-ins. Further, if you enjoy fishing, the river offers anglers a great opportunity to test their skills. The property also boasts a big pond stocked with bass, catfish, perch, and strypers (catch and release please) and a 100 yard+ rifle range that can be used with prior authorization. There are also ample trails for hiking, walking, mountain biking, or snowshoeing in the winter (weather dependent).
Don't forget to enjoy the wildlife. Nature abounds and Bald Eagles, Black Bears, and Whitetail Deer are often seen. The plant life is equally diverse with species rarely scene outside of the unique river valley ecosystem.
