A spacious apartment in central Athens, with two balconies with views! Walking distance to almost all the city's attractions- including the Acropolis, Plaka, and Panathenaic Stadium. Just a 3-min walk from the Presidential and Prime Ministerial mansions and a short walk from Evangelismos metro station. It has been renovated but retains a host of original features, from it's marble counter and sink in the kitchen to its hardwood floors and period doorbell. An ideal base to explore Athens.
There is a minimal open-plan living and dining room with a balcony that looks out onto Lycabettus hill and the modernist landmark of the Athens Conservatory building. The period sliding doors can be used to separate the two spaces and turn the living room into a much more private 2nd bedroom.
There is a small, fully-equipped kitchen that we have renovated while retaining its original marble countertops.
A long hallway leads to the double bedroom which looks out onto Proskopon Square. There is a balcony where you can have your coffee overlooking the square before setting off to explore Athens or heading to work. The bathroom has been completely renovated.
The apartment lies along the border between one of Athens' hippest, most bohemian areas and one of the city's most exclusive ones.
People love Plateia Proskopon with a passion but it remains a well-kept Athenian secret. It has a couple of great restaurants, and a few lovely cafes. Some of Greece's best restaurants and bars are further afield but still within walking distance. We will be happy to suggest places we think you will enjoy and will be within your budget.
On the other side of the Avenue, the Anaktora (palace) area, right behind Greece's parliament building, houses the official residences of Greece's head of state and prime minister, politicians, embassies. Just a 5-minute walk away you can find the Panathenaic Stadium where the first modern Olympics took place and where each November, the runners of the original marathon cross the finish lines. You can also watch the final few meters of the race from the front balcony. The National Gardens and Zappeion are also nearby and very popular with joggers.
You can walk to the Acropolis and the picturesque Plaka neighbourhood, Syntagma Square and Kolonaki, which hosts the city's best boutiques.
The Benaki, Cycladic, Byzantine and War museums are less than 10 minutes' walk away. You can catch a bus to Athens' two new cultural centres, the Onassis Foundation and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation cultural centre just outside the apartment or head for Athens' beaches.
