The location could not be better.
The front balcony faces south over Serapo Beach, and across the little one way street in front is the entrance to one of several free public areas. The beach is a mile long and completely sandy, perfect for swimming and relaxing. Probably a bit crowded in July and August. There is a dedicated parking space at the back through an electric gate. It is a 5 minute walk to the nearest shops, maybe 10 or 15 minutes to the centre of town and about 40 minutes walk to the mediaeval town. Gaeta is fairly spread out, we think that this is the best spot to stay all things considered. All along the beach in front are restaurants if you don't want to walk far. The only disadvantage was that we could hear movements from the flat above. Neither bathroom is ensuite which might be an issue for 2 families sharing. But it is spacious, air conditioned and has three balconies, though we only used the very large one at the front with the view of the sea and the sunsets. The apartment is not brand new but is reasonably modern and well equipped. Being on the first floor there are not too many stairs to climb but the flat seems secure and has good views. The beds are a little firm but this seems to be the norm in Italy. It is a small clean and quiet apartment block. Gaeta is full of interest and there are any number of interesting sites, Roman ruins, old hilltop towns and stunning mountains within an hours drive. You can also take a ferry to the islands of Ponza or Ventotene from Formia just up the road. The owner is very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time and would not hesitate to return.
