Accessed by a gravel road, Rowan House is just yards from the rugged shores of Loch Sunart and there are plenty of leisurely walks, forest paths, water sports and cycle tracks close by. The RSPB reserve at Glenborrodale is a birdwatchers’ paradise, with wood warblers, redstarts and spotted flycatchers often seen. An abundance of wildlife can also be spotted including whales, dolphins, otters, golden eagles and pine martens. Take a trip to Ardnamurchan Point lighthouse and visitor centre, explore the white sandy beaches at Sanna Bay, or visit the wonderful wildlife exhibition and café at Ardnamurchan Natural History Centre. Catch the foot ferry from nearby Salen to Tobermory on the Island of Mull, or there is a regular car ferry from Kilchoan to Tobermory. The beautiful islands of Rum, Egg, Canna and Skye can be reached by ferry crossings from the small fishing port of Mallaig, or Kentra Bay and the Singing Sands at Gortenfern make for a great day out.
