About this property

No. 2 The Fish Cellars is a stunning and unique two storey conversion.

No. 2 The Fish Cellars is a stunning and unique two storey conversion, lovingly refurbished to a very high standard by the present owners and is located just footsteps from the shore.

The open-plan living area is perfect for cosy living with a beautiful wood burning stove which is surrounded by large, comfortable sofas and contemporary furnishings. The well-equipped kitchen includes a stunning three oven Rangemaster, ideal for cooking up home-cooked feasts which can be relished around the large dining table; alternatively head through the french doors and host dinner al fresco.

The spacious bedrooms upstairs are steeped with character and have lovely views of the pretty courtyard and beyond. The useful utility room and downstairs shower room are perfect for muddy boots and sandy feet after a long day exploring the beautiful Cornish coast.

The property is approached through a pretty courtyard with cobbled stones and has allocated parking for two cars. The word "cellar" is a local term for a fish processing shed and the Fish Cellars were once used to salt and press huge hauls of pilchards into barrels before they were exported to Southern Europe many years ago.

Situated just across the road (literally footsteps from the water) from the picturesque cove at Port Quin, owned by the National Trust. This is a wonderful, tranquil location for sunbathing on the beach, swimming in the sea and relaxing on the rocks, as well as walking the coastal footpath to the quaint fishing harbour at Port Isaac.

Wonderful Holiday at the Sea

Came all the way from Seattle, WA USA and it was such a pleasure staying there. The cottage was inviting, cozy, clean and modern. The access to the cliff walks was just a few steps away and one am we had a herd of sheep go by on the road! Cooking in the kitchen was a breeze! The bathrooms were great. Just loved it- would like to come again! Thanks again for the wonderful hospitality!

Perfect location behind the beach

A fantastic stay just behind the beach at Port Quin in the old fish cellars. A great base for exploring the beach and local coastal paths. We had lots of fun paddle boarding and kayaking in the cove as well as BBQ’s on the beach watching the sunsets. The house was well laid out for the six of us with plenty of space and well appointed with all the essentials.

Our favourite family place

We love this cottage - and particularly the location - and have stayed here several times under various letting agencies. It can't be faulted for location and amenities and suitability for a grown up family with 'plus ones' who do a lot of water activities. Very little would put us off going there - whilst it represents value for money and feels like a luxury property for the luxury price tag. The welcome pack adds luxury and is always a treat. We particularly enjoyed it this year. However, this year, for the first time - despite the 'extra time' being given for a 'deeper clean' due to Cpvid 19 et al - we actually felt it was not very clean this time. And we all noticed it - not just 'fussy mum'. Previously, the cleanliness and attention to detail had made it feel very welcoming and 'high-end' and that people cared about the comfort of their clients. Cobwebs everywhere around furniture and ceilings, oven and splash backs spotted or greasy, windows smudged and notably the rugs and soft furnishings in need of a deep clean - and a little smelly. Also - it is sad that we are not enabled properly to use the 'garden area' (which is a sun trap - when there is some sun) - by there not being a key for the upper door (although we could walk round) - but no decent furniture provided or the area 'prepared'. I'm not suggesting the place hadn't be prepared and it did look nice on entering - it's just that it soon became apparent it was beginning to look 'tired' and in need of a deep clean and perhaps refresh. As for recommending to others: I never tell my friends/colleagues where I stay - it's a closely guarded secret as we have limited times when we can race to book it!!

Wonderful cottage in Port Quin

Was a perfect property for what we needed. Hidden in the secluded hamlet of Port Quin, the location was remote and picturesque. Views were amazing. Parking spaces for 2 cars right outside the property. Very reliable Internet. Quiet but a hive of activity on sunny days with people visiting the shore to swim or enjoy the view. The property could benefit from a microwave and upgraded cutlery. Some blankets or throws would have been nice for the cool evenings - this may have been a COVID issue. Minor things that didn’t hinder our trip. Beds and linens were very comfy and soft. Bedrooms and bathrooms good size. Be prepared to buy basics - washing up liquid, toilet paper etc - a tad annoying what was included wasn’t enough for a weeks stay. Overall I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a remote stay close to costal pathways for hikes and views.
