About this property

Mayes Cottage, Brancaster, Norfolk

Located in vibrant coastal village of Brancaster, Mayes Cottage is a super detached cottage curated from traditional Norfolk brick and flint, with a complimenting brick extension. This hideaway is brimming full of character and offers contemporary, comfortable living by the coast.

Mayes Cottage has been tastefully decorated and has gorgeous flooring and furnishings throughout. The heart of the cottage is the dining kitchen which has a vaulted ceiling, limestone flooring, full length windows and french doors leading into the enclosed patio garden. This sociable space is not only made for cooking and eating but for relaxing and chatting too. The stone floors are stylish and convenient, but you may wish to bring indoor shoes during the cooler months. The dual aspect sitting room with beamed ceiling, is a lovely room with a modern but cosy appeal. An extra large L-shaped sofa, a super efficient Clearview wood burning stove and widescreen Smart television ensure you have all you need for a 'night in'. The cottage has three bedrooms (king, double and twin) over two floors and two shower rooms (one on each floor) which works well for families or friends who appreciate privacy, independence and ground floor facilities. Outside is a secluded south facing shingle courtyard with table and seating, as well as a sheltered loggia so you can even sit outside even when it rains!

Perfectly located, Mayes Cottage enjoys such easy access to the beautiful local beach and many great local eating places, you might not wish to venture too far afield. However, if you do, you can always catch the Coasthopper bus that regularly runs through the village all year round and will take you to all the other wonderful villages along this stunning coastline. This is an area popular with walkers, golfers, sailors, cyclists, paddle boarders, kayakers, birdwatchers and dog owners! If you like shopping, trendy Burnham Market is just a few minutes' drive away and, for beach lovers, make sure you visit both Holkham and Wells-next-the-Sea, which stretch out as far as the eye can see.

Building Work To Next Property

On arrival, we were disappointed to find that there was building work being carried out. This was not mentioned at any point in the booking process.

Beachy Brancaster

We had a wonderful April week in north Norfolk at Mayes Cottage. The house is in lovely condition with all mod-cons and we immediately felt very comfortable. It is on the main road through Brancaster but this isn’t a busy road - certainly not at night - so we weren’t bothered by noise. Brancaster has the best beach in north Norfolk; there’s a friendly bar and restaurant 3 minutes away; and the local shop is nearby…..so it’s a great location.

Perfect in every way

Charming property in the heart of Brancaster and handily placed for walks and trips out. Very comfortable, warm and cozy with a fabulous kitchen. Ideal for a small family or group of friends.

Perfect!

Our third stay at Mayes Cottage, this time our first Winter break as opposed to the Summer ones previously. It really didn’t disappoint in any way. After bracing walks, we were welcomed back to the cosiness of the log burner - just perfect.

Wonderful cottage ideally located to make the best of N Norfolk

Comfortable and convenient. Well equipped and super layout, loved the extension. Minor moans :- beds only doubles and mattresses too firm, upstairs hazardous for those over 6ft. - once you’ve grazed your scalp you soon learn! Unbelievably two of locals closed for refurbishment!! We thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and the holiday, thank you

Beautiful cottage

Mayes cottage is gorgeous. It exactly met our needs for family time away. Clean, warm, luxurious. Walking distance to a beautiful beach, quirky community shop just over the road. Heaven. We have already booked to return next year. We had some issues with responsiveness of the holiday company, though - needed chasing several times, and their responses were not always what I would consider acceptable - particularly considering the relative cost of the property (and hence their commission). They were always polite and friendly. Just slow and not always helpful. (Un)surprisingly, when we said we wanted to rebook, the response rate to take money from us was significantly faster than the response rate to answer our questions. (None of the queries we had reflect in any way detrimentally on the cottage, and have all ultimately been resolved.)

Stunning!

The cottage lived up to our expectations from the photos on the website. It’s beautiful, inside and out ...the owners have good taste and clearly love the property. The location is good and there’s plenty of car parking space, we could close the gate so our small dog was secure. Anyone looking looking for a get away, I would recommend staying here.

Top marks to the owners, beautiful house, well kitted out & good location, 15 mins walk to the beach, only criticism, the beds are very hard, could do with some softer mattresses.

Great place to stay

We had a great stay and enjoyed our time in the cottage. The only downside was we felt that the owners were not very generous with the toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets etc, considering the amount we paid for the three nights.

great cottage

Really lovely cottage, beautifully renovated with fantastic kitchen. Everything we needed for a great half term week. Close to brancaster beach for lovely walks only down side was road noise from the main road.

A lovely cottage in a beautiful spot

Really lovely cottage with all mod cons, beautifully clean as well. Brancaster is a lovely seaside village with a long sandy beach. We enjoyed our stay very much. The only negative was the very uncomfortable mattresses on the beds, I left with backache and tiredness from some disturbed nights, such a shame as all other fixtures and fittings seem good quality but they decided to scrimp on this.
