Never again!
I’ve been traveling all over the world, since I was little boy. This might go down as one of our worst experiences ever.
I can definitely tell you that I will never use VRBO again. And I will certainly share my experience with everyone who asks me about our trip to Mexico. And am planning to post this on other travel sites to advise people accordingly.
This all started in late August when we started looking for a condominium in Nuevo Vallarta. We specifically wanted to stay in the Vidanta resort area. When we cued in our dates of travel, along with the number of guests, I was presented with over 200 responses.
After combing through most of those opportunities we narrowed it down to 125 listings. We began immediately to contact the owners to reserve their condominium. Only to find out that all of them, close to 200, were not available the dates we requested; even though we had put those specific dates in our criteria when we ran our search.
We had one party confirm availability. We followed protocol and reserved the unit, along with a down payment. Consequently we booked four airline tickets for the two couples traveling.
About one week later we were told that the unit was not available that we would not be able to stay there during the time we had requested. Now we were in a bind since we had purchased our airline tickets and made appropriate accommodations with work and family.
One of the VRBO owners we contacted about Vidanta suggested they could reserve two, one-bedroom units at another resort. Miraval Vacation Club. We took her up on that offer and planned our trip accordingly.
However, when we arrived at Miraval, we were more than disappointed with the accommodations. We were put in two small rooms, with two small double beds, right off of the main lobby. The rooms were dirty, smelly, and determined to have mold. We were told that they would not be able to move us for three nights. The accommodations and the resort were so bad that our two friends, checked out after two nights and went home. That probably was a good idea since the rest of the week only went from bad to worse.
Our expectations were that we would be staying at a resort comparable to Vidanta. The Miraval resort is far from that level of quality. The food was subpar, and the service was marginal at best. The staff never was pleased to assist you with any request and seemed incapable of handling most issues.
New Year’s Eve, the resort set up a large party for all their guests. We
