Tranquil location

The property had everything and more with extra touches from Julie to make us welcome. The facilities are perfect, a beautiful pool and sunbathing area and the grounds are stunning. The hosts were helpful and friendly giving us useful information and home grown vegetables. Excellent location for market visiting and within reach of Bordeaux. Would highly recommend this property.

A fantastic stay!

We really enjoyed our holiday. The property is beautiful and overall, very comfortable and well equipped. I was particularly impressed by the large rooms and comfortable beds. The house was clean and we were surprised by a lovely ‘welcome pack’ of wine, croissants, fruit, milk, etc. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. The pool was really lovely and clean. Julie & Jerry (as well as their adorable dogs and cats) made us feel welcomed and were there to help and give advice. We had a great time and we plan to go back at some point.

Outstanding - can't recommend highly enough!

What a fabulous place Bois du Penaud is. The photo's really don't do it justice. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable, being furnished in a stylish yet homely way so you immediately feel at home (and it's got just about everything you can think of too!) The grounds are immaculate and there is the most fantastic pool area (fully 'furnished' and with amazing 'cool' tiles so you don't burn your feet!) as well as several options for outside dining. The owners are friendly and helpful - without being intrusive -and are happy to advise on any info you might need although there's a comprehensive folder in the gite. Julie is a terrific cook - you just HAVE to try her catering service which is superb and excellent value too. If you can tear yourself away, there's lots to do in the surrounding area. We tried Chateau de Bridoire (great for families with a large woodland labyrinth and have-a-go medieval games plus they have a night-time option to visit), a trip to Bordeaux which is a lovely city and has a 'water mirror' to cool off with (google it!). We also did canoe-ing very locally in Sainte Foy la Grande which was great fun for all ages plus Sainte Foy also had lots of free summer entertainment going on too in the evenings. It's a little over 5 mins drive. There's also a great pizza kiosk if you fancy a takeway - few mins drive which is handily located next to the delicious Boulangerie/Patisserie. Both Julie's catering service and the pizza option mean you can relax in the gorgeous surroundings at home and have a few glasses of wine without the hassle of driving - bliss! Can't recommend this place highly enough. Huge thanks to Julie and Jerry for making us so welcome.

Why they chose this property

We think this property occupies a little corner of paradise - but we are biased!! However, it's setting - nestled in the middle of 7 acres of land, with green fields and woods - fully enclosed with the additional security of electric gates - means that you can relax in complex confidence and just enjoy the tranquility whilst nursing a glass of your favourite tipple! Due to the lack of surrounding properties, you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the countryside, birds singing, trees gently rustling, the smell of the grass and the flowers. You can gaze at the stars, resplendent in the magnificent and vast night sky, and unspoilt by any ambient light. This is why we love it and we think you would too!!
