About this property

'Palm View', West Coast 3 bd/3.5br villa with Private Pool walk to beach/bars

Located in the lovely Parish of St James, on the famous platinum West Coast of Barbados. The development known as 'Porters Gate' is a private, tranquil gated community (electronic security gates) and consists of 28 townhouses, set in spacious surroundings adorned with local shrubs, colourful planting and swaying palm trees . There is a sociable shared swimming pool, tennis-court & club-house. Nestled in a quiet area around a 6-8 minute walk from the nearest beach & only 2 minutes walk to Highway 1 for buses to Holetown (1 mile) where you will find many shops / supermarkets / banks & restaurants. Our house, 'Palm View' is a beautifully presented modern 3-bed/3.5 bath townhouse built around 2005. The house has been tastefully furnished with locally produced furniture and comprises in brief: 3 en-suite bedrooms all with private balconies, downstairs w/c, open plan kitchen, living & dining room and rear covered terrace/dining area & garden beyond. Free (private) Wifi throughout the house for keeping in touch whilst in paradise! Our lovely modern kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need for a self catering holiday including; kettle, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, smoothie maker, oven, hob, dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge freezer with ice maker and plentiful plates, dishes and glasses for a pre-dinner rum punch! Beautiful granite worktops are throughout and form a fabulous breakfast bar for informal eating. Through to the dining area there is a ceiling fan to keep you cool in the evenings with a dining table & chairs for 6 people. From here you can open the french doors which lead out onto the large covered terrace where you can enjoy al fresco dining, BBQ fish from the local fish market or why not get comfy in 'kindle corner' a perfect spot for curling up with your kindle & a cold Banks beer whilst listening to the birds, watching the green monkeys or spotting the beautiful hummingbirds and fire flies which visit our lovely garden daily. Have a dip in the small private pool or just jump on a lounger and soak up the sun. Back into the living area, there are two sofas and a chair for sitting back, relaxing and catching up on the news from home! This area also benefits from a ceiling fan. We have a brilliant TV system with all UK/US/Canadian/Sport channels as well as a great selection of movies to watch.
And finally for your convenience, there is a downstairs powder room & an under stairs cupboard housing iron / ironing board and other useful items.

As you ascend the wooden staircase you will look up to see a wonderful vaulted ceiling - one of my favourite aspects of this house!

There are 3 bedrooms; the master bedroom is a great size and has a (Us) king size bed (slightly larger than a UK Superking size!) and ample wardrobe space for 2 with full height hanging & lots of shelving as well as a huge chest of drawers. With another wonderful vaulted ceiling this is my favourite room... the en-suite is huge and has a twin vanity unit and an extra large walk in shower enclosure & w/c. The master bedroom has air conditioning & a ceiling fan and the balcony overlooks the rear garden / pool & trees beyond. We also have a large electronic safe should you wish to store your valuables during your holiday. Next to the master is the 2nd twin bedroom altho these beds can connect to form a large UK Superking size bed should you wish. There is a large walk through wardrobe area as well as an en-suite shower room with an impressive vaulted ceiling! . The 2nd twin bedroom at the top of the stairs has 2 single beds fitted wardrobes with full length hanging & plentiful shelving. The en-suite shower room has a very large walk in shower, w/c & vanity unit. There are french doors which open onto a private balcony overlooking the tennis court & communal swimming pool beyond, with a lovely little view inland too! There is air conditioning & a ceiling fan for your comfort.

There are lots of places you can walk to from Palm View - the famous Lonestar restaurant, Jujus beach bar and Jumas beach restaurant are a 10 minute walk in one direction, then there is a small convenience store, la baguette french bakery as well as 'The Horny Ram' restaurant which often features live music, 'The Sea Cat' restaurant and 'Cilantro' restaurant as well as a couple of local bars offering drinks and local street food.

Folkestone marine reserve is a 10 minute stroll up the beach - great for snorkelling as well as grabbing some local fishcakes and a rum punch at the on-site bar.

Wonderful place
We had an amazing time in Barbados. Everything was great from arrival, enjoying our stay, to departure. Communication with Joanne (owner) and Marcia (property manager) was excellent. The unit was clean and well equipped, it had everything we needed. Our kids loved the plunge pool. It was just a short walk to the beach. Sitting on the terrace with a cup of coffee in the morning, watching the green monkeys and the humming birds was a treat. Highly recommend this property, would definitely stay again! Thanks!!!

Fabulous !!!!!
The villa was super - the description was just as it says on the tin !! It felt like home from home - there was absolutely everything you could need in the villa. We sat for hours in the mornings & evenings watching all the birds in the trees behind the property, humming birds, tiny little yellow/black birds & even 4 parrots. The fireflies in the evening were magical, it was like watching a disney film. The complex is quiet, private and immaculately maintained. Joanne, the owner & Marcia the property manager are both very friendly & helpful and answered any queries straight away. There are some great bars/restaurants within a 20 minute walk and we had a car for the duration of our stay as there are soooooo many fantastic places to visit around the island - WE LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!

Go! Go! Go!
The property is EXACTLY as shown, and better. Joanne is amazing and is always on the end of a phone if needed as is Marcia, the property manager. Everything worked and was clean. Very safe and in a gated community. Brand new pool that was lovely to jump in at the end of a hot day out. 5 min walk to the beach. Al fresco dining outside and lovely through breeze from the front of the property. All I can say is GO!!! and experience for yourself. My husband is from Barbados so we return regularly and stay is several different properties according to the size of the group that comes with us, so can compare with previous experiences so I hope this helps anyone thinking of renting Joanne’s beautiful house. Thank you Joanne. 😊

Absolutely perfect stay!
We had an amazing experience staying at Jo’s place. This house really has everything that you need and is very clean, organized and way bigger than the pictures show! The location is perfect, you are only a 5 minute walk to the beach, we had many beautiful sunset and sunrise walks. You are also only a 15 minute walk into Holetown which has everything you need from shops, cafes, clothes, bars. Lonestar is a 10 minute walk north and has beautiful sunsets too. Throughout our stay Jo and Michaela (house manager) were extremely responsive and available. We also had a cleaner, Paulina who did a wonderful job every week. The community at porters gate has lots of amenities too including a tennis court, swimming pool, clubhouse and small gym. We cannot thank Jo enough for hosting us, we’ve completely fallen in love with the beautiful island of Barbados!

Great 3 bedroomed accommodation all ensuite
Great accommodation in a tranquil and safe gated community with a shared pool, tennis court and peaceful garden. We spent every evening sitting on the deck until bedtime enjoying listening to the tropical sounds of the night and didn’t turn the television on once, so relaxing so refreshing. There is no air conditioning in the living area but by leaving the back and front doors open there was always a lovely breeze going through the house and onto the deck. There is air conditioning in the bedrooms but we only used it for a few minutes before bedtime. The best beaches in Barbados are a 10 minute walk away and a French bakery even closer. Out side the bakery a lovely lady sells vegetables and eggs from a van on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays. There is no need to have a car as the bus stop is a couple of minutes away and the buses are frequent and cheap. I would advise not getting on a bus unless there is a seat as their driving can be quite erratic, better to wait a few minutes for the next bus. Massy supermarket is in Holetown which is a few minutes on the bus or a lovely half hour stroll along the beach with lots of eating , banking and shopping options. You can walk from the house to several restaurants, Juju’s for drinks at sunset and casual dining on the beach, Top Deck for middle of the road dining and the more expensive Lone Star restaurant. We enjoyed eating at Zaccios and Tides in Holetown but our favourite restaurant was La Cabane on Batts Rock beach South of Fitts Village where they serve food prepared with care and passion served in casual surroundings under the trees overlooking the sea. Make sure you book as it’s popular. We had a great holiday and would recommend staying here, Joanne kept us well informed both before and during our stay.

Fabulously equipped in a wonderful location.
We stayed in this beautiful town house during February 2019 and can’t recommend it highly enough. Beautifully clean and well maintained. As a family of 5 we always struggle to find accommodation roomy enough for us all to be comfortable. I have 3 strapping boys aged 16, 14 and 12 and it was a delight to find a property that gave us all ample space. The welcome pack was really comprehensive with lots of suggestions on places to visit and insider tips. Downstairs is a fabulous open plan area, the kitchen is well equipped with all the appliances and utensils you would have at home. The ice making fridge freezer kept all our drinks lovely and cool and having a dishwasher for all the cleaning up was a bonus. There is also a washing machine if you want to freshen anything up whilst you are there. There is an indoor dining table for 6 as well as a lovely outdoor 6 seater dining table on the garden patio. There is a comfy sofa and chair set around the tv area and my husband and boys were delighted with the array of sports and movie channels available on the television. There is full wifi throughout the property – a must for any teenager!! The garden is delightful and a little sun trap and I loved the little reading corner, I was lucky to be visited by some green monkeys early one morning. There is also a downstairs toilet which is really convenient. Upstairs there are 3 really good sized bedrooms, all ensuite and all with balconies and air conditioning. The beds are really comfortable, there is ample wardrobe space in all the rooms. The air conditioning is really effective and it only needed to be switched on for a few minutes before the rooms cooled down. The bedrooms also have ceiling fans and most evenings these were sufficient to keep the room at a cool temperature without having the air conditioning on due to the wonderfully high vaulted ceilings in all the bedrooms. Outside the property is a tennis court (there are rackets and balls available in the property) and a lovely communal pool which was pretty quiet for the whole of our stay. Bus stop and nearest beach a few minutes walk away. We ate in a few evenings, there is a fabulous supermarket in Holetown (less than a mile away).(As well as an array of lovely restaurants). At the owners suggestion we visited The Boatyard in Bridgetown – that was a fantastic day out that my boys thoroughly enjoyed. All in all, a great value holiday let that I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone!

We have been lucky enough to own a property on this beautiful island since 2005, but with a growing family (3 young boys of 8, 10 and 13), we decided to sell our beloved 2-bed apartment and buy a much larger 3-bed townhouse that was within walking distance of the beach and was a dream come true for us! We will continue our holiday home rental business with this new property and hope to be able to appeal to larger families or groups of friends / couples as it is very spacious and lends itself perfectly due to having 3 en-suite bedrooms! We hope you like it as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

'Palm View' is in such a great location - only 2 minutes walk to the main west coast road (where you can hop on the local buses to take you literally anywhere on the island for a couple of dollars!) and just a few minutes walk to the white sand, turquoise waters of the west coast beach. Yet when you sit with your kindle in the back garden, you can only hear the twittering of birds and the odd scerfuffle from a group of passing green monkeys! The property is light and airy with a tropical feel - wherever possible, we have sourced all locally produced furniture (all the wooden furniture has been hand made locally by 1 man!). We have tried to decorate with beautiful artwork from local artists (the parrot in the dining area is a favourite commission piece from Batik artist Henderson Reece) but with a few little touches from home too! The house has a welcoming, homely feel as you enter, because that is exactly what it is! It is our home from home and we hope you will enjoy its charms and amenities as much as us! You will see palm trees from every window - hence the name of the villa :-)

What makes this property unique

The quiet gated community is safe and secure, hidden away from the traffic of highway 1 coast road and is a really peaceful place to relax by the lovely communal pool and meet fellow holidaymakers, or if you are feeling energetic, the newly resurfaced tennis court beckons! There are lots of lovely tropical plants dotted around the well kept grounds and a nice sense of community.
