This is a very well thought out, well-equipped and very comfortable apartment. The location could not be more convenient – in the middle of the old town, the “Ecusson” (protected area) with a minimum of vehicle traffic and mostly small, tiled pedestrian rues and places. Les Halles, a Carrefour supermarket and a Nicolas wine shop are only steps away. Walk out the front door and you are transported back to medieval or earlier times (La Maison Carre and Les Arenes are within a few minutes’ walk). There is a small elevator to get you to the third floor but we mostly took the stairs. The interior was nicely done and all the more interesting for the rustic, ancient post and beam construction much in evidence in each room. The bed was quite comfortable – no morning backaches. It was wonderful to be able to read in the warm sun on the terrace (two matching full length chaise lounges) and to eat al fresco at the terrace dining table, with market umbrella for shade. My wife and I stayed three weeks and used the apartment as a home base from which to do day trips via bus to several quite interesting towns, none of which was more than an hour’s ride away. These included the beautiful Uzes, Sommiere, Aigues Mortes, Pont de Gard, Tarrascon, Sauve and Arles. And of course, Nimes itself has many wonderful parks, historical sites and museums within walking distance of the apartment. We had delicious, satisfying lunches at welcoming restaurants in each of these towns. Then home to the comfortable apartment and the lighter fare that we tend to eat in the evening, the ingredients being easy to shop for and prepare in the well-equipped and spacious kitchen. Having a clothes washer and dryer, plus a heated drying rack, enabled us to pack very lightly – a small carry-on bag for each of us. Phillip Bell and his local representative, Nicola, could not have been more responsive and quickly resolved the few minor issues that arose. Nicola greets you upon arrival and orients you to the apartment, appliances, etc. Mr. Bell has compiled a guide to the apartment and Nimes that is comprehensive and enormously helpful. They really do want you to have a wonderful time and go out of their way to facilitate your stay. Go, you won't be sorry.
