About this property

Charming apartment with stunning terrace in Nimes' medieval centre

“Au Coeur de Nîmes” is a charming one-bedroomed flat in an 1891 heritage building in the medieval pedestrianized centre of Nîmes. Extremely light and airy, with wooden parquet flooring and original beams, it features a spacious living and dining room, fully equipped open kitchen, study, bedroom with a double bed, en-suite bathroom and separate toilet. Amenities include wi-fi, flat-screen TV with satellite TV, DVD/CD player, iPod speakers and a private parking space two minutes away. The piece de resistance is the large sun-drenched terrace - ideal for al fresco dining – overlooking the magnificent 12th Century Cathedral, picturesque Place aux Herbes and terracotta-tiled rooftops beyond. A covered food market offering the very best of French produce, plus a small supermarket, are a minute's walk away, plus many charming cafes, restaurants and bars. The building has an elevator for easy access, but we regret the flat is not wheelchair-accessible due to a small staircase.

Great place to stay in Nimes
I very much enjoyed my stay in this apartment and meeting the hosts, who are both very nice people. The apartment is comfortable, well-equipped, nicely furnished, clean, quiet, and has a very nice, large terrace. The location is perfect to explore Nimes.

Amazing apartment in the heart of Nîmes
We stayed for 6 nights in Nimes at Philips wonderful apartment. The apartment is very comfortable, has everything you could need and the balcony is amazing! On the inside of the apartment, the bathroom is big and very modern, the bedroom has a large comfy bed, there is a second room which is great for storage, the kitchen has all the equipment and pots & pans that you could need, and the lounge area is comfortable with British & French television. The outside area is AMAZING! The terrace is huge with a large table and two sub beds. You can see the whole of Nîmes from the main balcony and it’s great for sunbathing and having a glass of fizz on. There is also another small balcony next to the kitchen. The location of the apartment is in the heart of Nîmes, you couldn’t get anymore central! It’s close to shops, bars and the market which has a great selection of stalls. The building itself is really nice and has a lift for easy access, the building feels secure but there is additional security in the apartment. Philip as a host was great. Really helpful and very quick to respond to any questions. He even put a bottle of rose in the fridge to welcome us. We would love to come back here again and highly recommend the apartment and Philip as a host.

Location, location, location!
We recently spent two weeks at "Au Coeur de Nimes" while visiting our daughter, who lives there. We could not have found a better place to stay! The apartment is spacious and charming, and while there was only one bedroom, there was plenty of room for dinner guests and get-togethers with friends. The beautiful terrace overlooks the cathedral square and is a lovely spot for relaxing and enjoying the views. The apartment truly is "In the heart of Nimes". It's just a two minute walk to the market and to a well-stocked small grocery store. Then, of course, there are all kinds of shops, sites, and restaurants very close-by. Our hosts could not have been more accommodating. Philip was there to meet us at the parking garage, help with our bags and show us around. He called several times to check on us, and was back at the end of our visit to help again. I honestly can't say enough about what a great visit we had. Hopefully, we will return next year!

perfect stay
We were here for a week and hugely enjoyed ourselves. Being in the old town was a major plus and very close to all that we wanted to do in town. Also, we were able to drive to other towns to hike. The apartment has everything we needed and was comfortable and bright. Parking and stairs may be a problem for some but it was no problem for us. We are in upper 70s of age but in good shape, so we could handle it all just fine. Excellent internet and English TV.

Comfortable, stylish, bright apartment in the centre of old Nimes
We had a wonderful week here. The apartment was even nicer & bigger than it looks in the photos. Beautifully decorated, lots of attention to detail, comfortable enough to just lounge around in or relax in after a day of sightseeing. The terrace is huge & a great vantage point for watching the comings & goings in the square below. Despite the apartment’s central location, it is very quiet. Nimes is a wonderful town with a relaxed feel & incredibly rich in Roman history. The new Roman museum is excellent. And the Les Halles market is a joy to shop in. Equally close to the apartment is a Carrefour supermarket. Philip & Sian were very good hosts, scrupulous in ensuring we had everything we needed, including information, for a comfortable stay. I hope we can return.

Wonderful apartment in an excellent location in the old town of Nîmes.
We were made very welcome by the owner, Philip Bell, who even contacted us a couple of days into our stay to make sure everything was OK. The apartment has all facilities you might need, is spacious and the terrace is perfect, being open, overlooking the town square, but very private and not overlooked. The location is great, in the heart of the old town, with shops and restaurants close by. We didn't have a car but the train and bus stations are just a short walk away, as are the many historical sites in the town worth visiting. Ideal for a stay any time of the year as the apartment has heating as well as air conditioning.

Delightful apartment
We have just returned from one week’s stay in this delightful apartment in the very centre of Nîmes. So enjoyable was our experience that, when we arrived back in the U.K., our first task was to book Au Coeur de Nîmes again – this time for two weeks – next year. The apartment is quiet, clean, tidy, tastefully furnished and very well equipped. Its large terrace, which catches the sun all day long, overlooks the Cathedrale St Castor and the Place aux herbes. With a Carrefour City supermarket and Les Halles indoor food market just along the street, and a large number of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance, we parked our car for the week (secure parking provided at no extra cost) and explored Nîmes on foot. Philip Bell’s attention to detail, his courtesy and his helpfulness was incomparable. In over thirty-five years of holidaying in France, Au Coeur de Nîmes is undoubtedly the best place we have ever rented – both in terms of its facilities and its value for money.

A gracious gem with comfort to spare!
We stayed in Nimes for two weeks in late April 2017. Although the weather was unseasonably cool and damp, it did not dampen our spirits. The apartment location is perfect for exploring this lovely town, as well as for having a car secure and handy for explorations further afield. (Note to birders: we especially enjoyed the Camargue and went back a second day). The apartment itself is fully equipped and surprisingly spacious; clean, modern, and comfortable. It provided a haven for catching our breath or dodging raindrops. We enjoyed looking down on the cafe life from the rooftop terrace. Also, a small, modern grocery store and the spectacular Les Halles are just in the next block. Sian and Philip were warmly hospitable and available to help with any concerns. For instance, they met us at the train and Philip actually accompanied us to guide us safely to our car rental return. Much to see and do -- don't miss Nimes and when you plan your visit, we highly recommend this apartment rental.

A perfect town centre apartment
We spent 2 beautiful hot weeks in September in the air conditioned apartment. Philip could not have made us feel more welcome even though he was on the other side of the planet. We received a call to ensure that everything was ok on our first night and again at the end of the holiday. The apartment is in a perfect position in the town centre surrounded by cafes and shops with a beautiful terrace overlooking the Cathedral. We were a little worried that it might be noisy in the centre but the streets around the apartment are all pedestrianised and you hear very little noise. The apartment was bigger than it looks in the photos and really comfortable with a wonderfully comfy bed. Nimes is a beautiful town with lots of restaurants, amazing Roman buildings and a fabulous market just a stones through from the apartment. There is plenty to see in the surrounding countryside and with the train station being an easy walk you have an excuse not to dive everywhere. We went on the train to Marseilles for the day which was excellent. All in all a fantastic holiday and we will certainly be coming back.

Charming apartment, with stunning terrace in Nimes
A lovely third floor apartment, in an old, modernised, property in the centre of Nimes. There is a lift to the third floor, however when entering the apartment there is a short flight of stairs, which could create a problem for people with walking problems. The apartment was the cleanest place we have stayed in, as I usually take my 'antibacterial cleaner' with me when travelling. It was certainly not necessary here. The cleaner, a lovely friendly woman came in on the middle Saturday, changed towels, sheets and throughly cleaned the apartment including all the wooden floors. The terrace was superb, table, chairs, umbrella and sun lounges. We ate outside every day and spent many hours sunbathing. Car parking was further down the road, a private area of a multi-storey car above the Halles. As the apartment was in the centre of town we left the car there for the full fortnight and walked everywhere. In conclusion one of the best places we have stayed in France.

A gem in the heart of Nimes
Having spent many years holidaying in different areas of France we cannot rate this apartment highly enough. From the beginning all our dealings with the owners were quickly and efficiently carried out. The owner's representatives, John and Julie, live in the same apartment block and on arrival showed us round and explained how everything worked. During our stay they were easily available to sort out any issues. A welcoming phone call shortly after our arrival was much appreciated. The apartment was very well equipped and exceptionally clean with a mid stay change of bed linen and cleaning. The bathroom and toilet have been recently refurbished to a very high standard with a large walk-in shower. The large terrace, overlooking the Cathedral and Place aux Herbes, is stunning and we were able to have breakfast and our evening meal out there every day. Having a dedicated parking space in the nearby car park was a real bonus. With a Carrefour City supermarket and Les Halles on the doorstep we enjoyed shopping daily negating the need to drive to larger hypermarkets, leaving more time for strolling around Nimes. Having visited the area previously we felt no need to travel far and apart from a couple of days revisiting Uzes and the coast, we spent the days relaxing and enjoying all that Nimes has to offer. We are certainly looking forward to a return visit- hopefully in the not too distant future.

Relaxing in Nimes
We will always remember our stay in "Au Coeur de Nimes" as the most relaxing trip we have ever made, due mainly to the owner's attention to detail. The apartment is so fully equipped that it felt like home from home, also there is the assurance that the representatives live in the same building if needed. The location is ideal. We arrived at Nimes airport, took the shuttle-bus into town, then just a ten minute walk to the apartment. The many interesting features of Nimes old town are all within easy walking distance. To travel further afield we took advantage of the local bus service, a relaxing (and surprisingly cheap) way to explore the surrounding countryside.

Lovely stay - too short!
We had a wonderful week. The apartment is just right for two, plenty of space and well equipped. Unfortunately it was a bit too windy to use the terrace but it was a great vantage point to see the touring bands during the feria. The apartment is in a perfect location, shops and a brilliant market very near, and a short stroll to the Roman sites. We were a little apprehensive about leaving the car in the parking but it was very secure and easy to access. Nicola was very efficient in showing us round and Mr Bell has compiled a file giving all of the information you will ever need to have a great visit. We hope to return.

Wonderful times at Au Coeur de Nimes
This is a very well thought out, well-equipped and very comfortable apartment. The location could not be more convenient – in the middle of the old town, the “Ecusson” (protected area) with a minimum of vehicle traffic and mostly small, tiled pedestrian rues and places. Les Halles, a Carrefour supermarket and a Nicolas wine shop are only steps away. Walk out the front door and you are transported back to medieval or earlier times (La Maison Carre and Les Arenes are within a few minutes’ walk). There is a small elevator to get you to the third floor but we mostly took the stairs. The interior was nicely done and all the more interesting for the rustic, ancient post and beam construction much in evidence in each room. The bed was quite comfortable – no morning backaches. It was wonderful to be able to read in the warm sun on the terrace (two matching full length chaise lounges) and to eat al fresco at the terrace dining table, with market umbrella for shade. My wife and I stayed three weeks and used the apartment as a home base from which to do day trips via bus to several quite interesting towns, none of which was more than an hour’s ride away. These included the beautiful Uzes, Sommiere, Aigues Mortes, Pont de Gard, Tarrascon, Sauve and Arles. And of course, Nimes itself has many wonderful parks, historical sites and museums within walking distance of the apartment. We had delicious, satisfying lunches at welcoming restaurants in each of these towns. Then home to the comfortable apartment and the lighter fare that we tend to eat in the evening, the ingredients being easy to shop for and prepare in the well-equipped and spacious kitchen. Having a clothes washer and dryer, plus a heated drying rack, enabled us to pack very lightly – a small carry-on bag for each of us. Phillip Bell and his local representative, Nicola, could not have been more responsive and quickly resolved the few minor issues that arose. Nicola greets you upon arrival and orients you to the apartment, appliances, etc. Mr. Bell has compiled a guide to the apartment and Nimes that is comprehensive and enormously helpful. They really do want you to have a wonderful time and go out of their way to facilitate your stay. Go, you won't be sorry.

Return visit as wonderful as the first
We stayed at Au Coeur de Nimes last summer and it was so great we returned this year for 3 weeks. This is the best location - right in the middle of the old town and a lovely apartment with everything you could want. It is also right in the middle of the entire area from Avignon, Les Baux, Beziers, Uzes, Carcasonne and Saintes Maries de la Mer - all within an easy drive. However, just enjoying Nimes is a perfect way to spend a day. Our host, Philip Bell, is very attentive and helpful and most concerned that our experience is all we could want. Thank you, Philip.

The heart and soul of Nîmes!
We have had a wonderful stay in this nice and spacious apartment right in the centre of Nîmes. We appreciated to step out of the door and visit all sites and monuments, with the many stores and the food-hall just within minutes of walking. The house was clean and well organised with abundant equipment to make the stay convenient. We liked the large terrace very much, it is unique with a nice view on the Place aux Herbes and other streets. The photographs give an excellent idea of the house and terrace. We were welcomed in the apartment and there was an easy contact with the owner and his representative. We ourselves hope to come back and stay here again.

Spring in the heart of Nimes
We can recommend the apartment “Au coer de Nimes” without limitation. Perfect location in the center of Nîmes, also a private parking space in the garage a few steps away from the apartment. The apartment is very well equipped and leaves nothing to be desired. Internet access and free phone calls are one of the benefits. A special highlight is the rooftop terrace, from which one has a great view. The central location allows daily shopping in the market hall "Les Halles", visiting many landmarks and restaurants nearby. The host welcomes us with a bottle of wine and a phone call. Everything was well organized. In the red book we found a lot of informations about the apartment, the city (as well as restaurant recommendations) and the greater surroundings. In case of any questions or help, the local representative Nicola was always available. Nothing more to say, just...a great located and furnished apartment in a great city.

Delightful apartment, lovely location, helpful hos
We spent a wonderful week in April at Au Coeur de Nimes and found everything we needed in this well appointed, impecabably maintained apartment. It's an easy walk to the train and bus stations which was nice since we did not have a car. The central location made it easy for visiting Nimes as well and we were able to see everything we wanted on foot. Husband was sent out every morning for croissants, a journey he happily made, and was back in minutes. We were greeted personally and given contact info in case we had questions. I would come back again and highly recommend Au Coeur de Nimes.

The centrepiece of a wonderful vacation
Au Coeur de Nîmes is well named. It was a pivotal element of our 3-week trip. The web site is gives a very good indication of the apartment but the reality is even better. The apartment is lovely: clean, functional and very comfortable. It has all the amenities you could want and then some. And the terrace about the square was like living in our own private aerie. The private parking and long distance phone plan were unexpected percs. Nicola, as the local representative, was very pleasant and attentive. The welcoming phone call from our host, Philip Bell, along with his card and bottle of local rosé, were a special touch on our arrival. He is clearly committed to ensuring his guests have everything they need and are happy with the apartment. And the 'Red Book' he has prepared, of instructions about how things work and sightseeing and restaurant suggestions, became our bible. My husband loves to cook and so he greatly enjoyed his daily trip to Les Halles, the market that is only two minutes away. We ate so well both at home and at local restaurants. We enjoyed meandering around the cobbled streets of the old city with its shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as its many fountains. The 2000-years old arena and temple (Maison Carrée), the Jardins de la Fontaine, Esplanade Place de Gaulle, the old churches, the beautiful shaded boulevards… and the leisurely pace of things. And then there is the proximity to Pont de Gard, many old cities like Béziers, Arles and Avignon, and to the incredible and romantic Camargue. We would certainly recommend Au Coeur de Nîmes most highly. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we are hoping to return to Au Coeur de Nîmes soon.

C'est vraiement au coeur de Nimes!
If you are looking for a comfortable, characterful, well-equipped apartment in the centre of Nimes, with parking, then look no further. This apartment exceeded expectations with its size and of course the fabulous view from the rooftop terrace. You can actually see the top of the Arena. Having English TV during Wimbledon and the football world cup was an added bonus. The main covered market is just a short walk from the building with excellent produce every day of the week. Phillip Bell was a delight to deal with and all the booking arrangements were efficiently managed. There are clear instructions for everything, including a floor plan of the market, when you arrive a long with a very lovely bottle of wine. We couldn't have been happier!

Great apartment in the heart of the city.
A lovely apartment, better than the pictures online, with the terrace a real bonus. It couldn't be more central, but being at the top of the building was still quiet and peaceful. Service was excellent, all the pre holiday arrangements went well and we had clear directions and information at every stage. We appreciated the courtesy call from Philip just after we arrived, and the call back to tell us where to get festival de Nimes tickets led to an unexpected trip to see the Arctic Monkeys at the arena. Bonus! Nimes is a great base, with plenty of places nearby, although the city itself has more than enough to offer to fill a week. We loved Les Halles which was a real treat for fresh food, but tried walking most of it off by going up to La Tour Magne a few times (great view from top). Would really recommend the apartment, thanks for a great week.

A week to remember
We loved this apartment. Nimes was a fascinating mix of history and contemporary French life and the apartment was the ideal base to explore Nimes and surrounds. Well appointed, comfortable and in the heart of things, Au Couer de Nimes allowed us, for a brief time, to feel that we were part of this charming community. Philip's clear and thorough notes and welcoming gifts and call, and Nicola's personal welcome ensured that we had all we needed to make the most of every moment of our time there. A private car park was a real boon . We are already dreaming of returning!
