About this property

Stone cottage in idyllic location, surrounded by countryside, close to beaches.

Hedgerow Cottage, Berryl Farm Cottages, Whitwell, Isle of Wight. Dog friendly.
Excellent ferry discounts available.
Hedgerow, Fossil Cottage & The Bake House are one bedroom cottages in an idyllic rural location which is quiet and peaceful in the midst of secluded South Isle of Wight countryside, two miles from the coast and 5 minutes walk from The White Horse Inn, a quality Island dining pub. This listing is for Hedgerow Cottage. There are spectacular views of the downs from all around the cottage, with beautiful sunsets. In the fields are dairy cows, a stream, hawthorn hedges and plenty of wildlife. The cottage is excellently situated for walking, cycling, fishing, romantic breaks and exploring the whole of the Isle of Wight. There is easy access on to the footpaths directly outside the cottage which join the extensive Stenbury and Worsley trails near Appuldurcombe, or the west wight coastal paths, all providing panoramic views. At close by Nettlecombe Farm (short footpath walk) there are three well stocked fishing lakes (permits available).

A five minute walk across fields leads to historic Whitwell village and dining pub. The White Horse pub is very popular for meals and there is an attractive 700-year old church. Close by is Niton village with post office, food shops and beautiful St Catherine’s Lighthouse. Under ten minutes by car is the pretty Victorian seaside town of Ventnor with its own micro climate offering sandy beaches, sub-tropical botanic gardens and local ale. You can also walk to Ventnor using public footpaths leading straight from the house with spectacular views.
This is an original island stone cottage at the end of three adjoining cottages which are several hundred years old. Restored by National Trust builders, this lovely cottage is tastefully decorated and furnished. You enter into an attractive kitchen with tiled floor, leading on to a pleasant sitting room with a television, sofa, easy chair & log burner. The kitchen is well-equipped with fitted units, electric oven and hob, microwave, refrigerator with freezer section and washing machine.
Upstairs is an attractive double bedroom (king size bed) and separate bathroom with a bath and excellent overhead shower. At both the rear and the front of the cottage are table and chairs to make most of the early morning and evening sun. Breakfast on the rear patio and a glass of wine at sunset at the front of the property. A car may be parked beside the cottages. Please note access to the cottage is over the fields along a well maintained gravel farm track. The village may be accessed back along the farm track (10 min) or by public footpath taking approx 5 minute.

Perfect Getaway

The cottage was cosy but had a luxurious feel. Friendly and helpful hosts. The location was gorgeous, great views and lots of peace and quiet. Local pub was lovely and most attractions are within easy reach. It was hard to leave such lovely surroundings!

Our short holiday break.

Excellent facilities and location if you like to be in the countryside. Perfect for our dog as well. Enclosed rear garden, useful entrance porch for drying and cleaning the dog and leaving walking boots.

Beautiful, peaceful and idealic breakaway

last minute booking , and ended up in a beautiful little cottage in Whitwell, very rural and out of the way, felt very secluded with a very romantic setting, however the pub was only a short walk away through the fields. LOVED IT

An ideal Isle of Wight getaway.

Hedgerow Cottage, set within beautiful countryside and surrounded by magnificent views, provided an ideal Isle of Wight getaway. The owners have taken great care to create a calming, relaxing space as well as including useful holiday extras, such as Netflix, board games and a selection of novels. Outside, sitting areas at both the back and front of the cottage offer restful places to read, dine, and watch the stars. The location is excellent: Ventnor and the beaches of the south coast are only a few minutes' drive and a short walk along the country path leads to the welcoming local pub. This was our first trip to the Isle of Wight and the cottage provided an ideal place to unwind and base for our island explorations. We enjoyed our stay immensely.
