The term "Shippon" translates to cow barn or cattle shed, and astonishingly, this enchanting cottage began its journey over 270 years ago in just that capacity! Between the years of 2006 and 2008, the Shippon Barn received a magnificent transformation, blossoming into the delightful retreat you behold today.
Numerous enchanting elements of the ancient Shippon barn have been lovingly preserved, showcasing the beauty of exposed timbers throughout. The owl flight holes and archers' windows have been meticulously restored and snugly glazed, bestowing the bedrooms with a distinctive allure. The ambiance is further enhanced by flagstone flooring, a crackling woodburning stove below, and elegant oak floors above.
The living room invites you to relax with its ample seating, a cosy log burner, plush blankets, a smart TV, and a Bluetooth speaker, creating an atmosphere of warmth and comfort.
Conveniently, a downstairs toilet awaits. The cottage features a fully appointed kitchen, adorned with an integrated electric oven and gas hob, a double Ninja air fryer, a microwave, and a toaster. It comes equipped with a delightful assortment of utensils and tools, a kettle, and a Dolce Gusto coffee machine, perfect for the coffee lovers among you.
Upstairs, a family bathroom awaits, graced with both a luxurious bath and an over-bath shower, alongside three charming bedrooms. The master suite boasts an expansive space adorned with a double bed, complemented by an en-suite bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe area. The second bedroom is a delightful retreat, showcasing a beautiful antique double bed, while the third bedroom offers a cosy double bed crowned by a single bunk above. Each room is tastefully decorated, radiating warmth and elegance.
A charming garden sanctuary awaits, featuring a secluded hot tub, tasteful outdoor furnishings, a charcoal barbecue, and generous space for children to frolic and adults to unwind.
We are deeply devoted to family and aspire to make your holiday with children as effortless as possible. Behold the array of amenities: plastic cutlery for tiny hands, protective fire guards, cozy baby baths, travel cots adorned with soft bedding, high-chairs for delightful meals, playful pool toys, a shimmering swimming pool, and a whimsical play area. We aim to provide family-friendly enchantment – where the little ones are cherished at every turn, and children lie at the very heart of Barnacre.
Here at Barnacre, we are truly fortunate to present to you a quarter Olympic-length swimming pool. So misleading
Property makes out it has a private swimming pool which is not the case not only is it a shared pool but you have to book a time slot which I didn’t say anywhere when making booking and to top it off the pool is not anywhere near the property but 5 min down to round on a different property was a lovely cottage but not worth what I paid as didn’t get what I paid for

Wonderful base and beautifully presented. Perfect for our family break. We would definitely book a revisit in the future. The new Turkish restaurant nearby is an added bonus to the break!

Great place to stay
Stayed here for two nights, 8 ladies ranging from 7 months to 85 years and a little dog. Pictures do it no justice, it’s much bigger than it looks. Very clean & inviting, lovely to have tea coffee and a bottle of Prosecco on arrival! Under floor heating was wonderful. Slight issue with the en suite shower (needs a screen) and the tap but besides that it was great. Hot tub was fab, lovely and clean and sheltered away so felt nice and private. Lovely back garden would be lovely to sit out in the summer. Beds really comfy, great to also have a downstairs toilet. Also lovely to see a real wood burning fire but never got the chance to use it! The pool didn’t look as clean and inviting as it does on the pictures but never the less we enjoyed using it it was a welcome bonus. The pub virtually next door was great too brilliant value and good quality food. Area is lovely, feels rural but not far from lots of lovely places to visit, nearby to shops & eateries too. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Enjoyable family break
Lovely and the hot tub and pool fantastic, however let itself down with cleanliness and a number of things that were broken. These included shower head in main bathroom, hot tap in en-suite and despite there being no windows in the en-suite the extractor fan was not working. A dummy and bottle of water were still under the bed from previous occupants. It was a lovely cottage tho and great location with a pub next door

Rustic and Lovely
Great cottage to stay in with your family! Loved the care and attention that created this rental property. We were greeted with prosecco and chocolate biscuits; much appreciated after a 24-hour journey. Near to Liverpool and Chester which offered a wide range of places to explore and enjoy. We did not get to enjoy the hot tub ... it was ready to use when we arrived and looked very inviting. We would definitely stay here again.

Great spot and beautiful area
We spent a weekend here, with our dog so he could see the sea for the first time. It was a lovely cottage, clean and will situated with plenty of places to eat nearby. Russell was friendly and accommodating.
