There are a good selection of shops and galleries showcasing the work of local artists and craft workers. Masham Sheep Fair is held every September, a real highlight. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

This is a lovely secluded cottage in the grounds of the owners house. When I say grounds, I mean grounds. Lots of lovely beautifully maintained gardens, including an enclosed Kitchen garden, are all available to use. They even have an owl in the garden, which although we didn't see we heard several times. The hostess was very friendly, and bakes a home made cake for each set of guests. It has only been converted from a barn within the last couple of years so everything is very new and in good condition. We had a lovely stay and I would recommend it. We really enjoyed our stay.
We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is an absolute gem. Sitting in the enclosed garden and listening to the birds ( including the owl!) has been such a pleasure. I did not expect local amenities in the immediate locality, so do not see this as a downside. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

We thought that the cottage was very pretty and more spacious than we had anticipated. There were the 4 of us and perfect for our group of 2 adults with 2 adult children. Also the location was very convenient and the garden would have been lovely, unfortunately it rained a lot and hence we were not able to use it. On the whole we thought the cottage was pretty ideal and we would have given it 9/10 the only improvement I would say could be on crockery as 4 plates, side plates and bowls perhaps is not enough as it means constant washing up. Also a slightly more extensive welcome pack than a cake might have been nice. Having said this all the important things were there and we would definitely recommend it. Lovely cosy cottage with friendly, helpful owners on site.
Lovely cosy cottage with friendly, helpful owners on site. Also the grounds/ gardens made for very pleasant evening strolls. The location couldn't be better as the cottage is halfway between Thirsk and Ripon, both of which are well worth a day's visit. In fact there is so much to do in this area. Would definitely recommend Manor House cottage for a long or short break.

This beautiful luxurious cottage is the perfect spot to discover Yorkshire in different directions. For example: York, Pickering, Brimham Rocks, Pateley Bridge, Bolton Castle, Aysgarth Falls. After a day of exploration, discoverings, full of impressions, it's just heavenly relaxing in this quiet green place on Mother Earth: "James Herriot-country". We love it very much.

Excellent overall.
Excellent overall. Beautiful garden with wonderful birds including the woodpecker which frequently visited the bird feeder. Absolute quiet and peace which to us more than made up for lack of local (within a few miles) amenities such as pub or shop which explains the 5 as that may be important to some people. The owners were a welcoming but unobtrusive presence and it was a delight to share in their “open garden “ event one evening. We much enjoyed the homemade ginger cake with the generous amount of Yorkshire Tea they provided.
