About this property

The New White House Amazing River view and sunsets!

Formerly known as the "Lil Red Guest House" which was built in 1860; however, Lil Red was swept away in the 2019 flood. Now standing, small but mighty and tall is "The New White House" nestled against the bluffs with unobstructed views of the river. This quaint and adorable cabin is approximately 800 square foot with a front deck boasting of 8' wide steps leading to the 20' deck overlooking the Mighty Mississippi River. Bathroom with walk in shower, towels, hair dryer. Kitchen is fully furnished with full size refrigerator, stove, microwave, crockpot, pans, skillets, cooking utensils, toaster, glass dishes, mixer, baking dishes, etc.

The White House provides a front and back deck for relaxing and taking in the outdoors and flowing river. Conveniently located on Main Street, The White House allows guests to stroll across the street to enjoy the fine cuisine at the popular Oyster House, several popular wineries (no need for Uber), bars, antique shops, ice cream/fudge shops, ice skating, ziplining, Pere Marquette State Park Lodge, and more. Convenient location, great space
The house was a great size for 2 couples and a small baby. We could have fit another couple in the third room. Very convenient to town walking and driving. Was unable to connect to WiFi and cell service in the town was spotty but all in all would recommend.

Perfect spot to take in Grafton!
The Lil’ Red House was adorable! So close to everything, if it hadn’t rained all weekend, we could have walked to everything. We absolutely love the front porch, we spent every moment we could out there. Loved that she had coffee and condiments on hand and a washer/dryer. We will be back and highly recommend that you stay there for your next trip to Grafton!!

Too "Off the Grid" for us!!
My sisters and I love visiting Grafton, IL! The area is so pretty! But found out after staying there for 3 days, that it became very frustrating for us. We had no cell phone service the entire time and were not able to check up on our families back home! The Lil Red Guest House was pleasant and comfortable but a little run down for our tastes! The porch was full of bugs, wasps, and nests of some sort in the corners. The porch railings were not sturdy, and we had to be careful where we were walking and leaning. Other than that, it was a pleasant house to stay in. The kitchen was equipped with what we needed for the most part, and there was a small grocery store nearby to fill the rest of our needs. We also learned that a few of the restaurants and stores in Grafton are not open past the weekend. We arrived there on Sunday afternoon and stayed until Wednesday morning. We did that because we didn't want to deal with the crowds the entire time we were there, but found out our options for eating and shopping became limited after Sunday. We learned some valuable lessons on this trip; the biggest one being Grafton is a nice place to visit, but wouldn't want to stay there for any length of time.

This is a very nice place.
2nd time we have stayed here and really enjoy ourselves. This is such a great place to stay and go to all the wineries and all the bars in the Grafton area. It is walking distance to everything so would recommend this to anyone. Also has a hot tub and really enjoyed this also. Thank you Mary!

A terrific place
This is a great getaway for a couple, the family, two families, or a bunch of friends. It’s awesome to sit in the hot tub and look at the stars at night. You can walk to several great eating spots and can also walk to several cute shopping spots. Everything that you would need is provided, towels, sheets, dishes, paper towels, toilet paper… It is clean and adorable and a great getaway!

Great little house
Good to keep in mind that this house is little. Almost has a doll house feel to it. A 6' tall person has to do a little twisting and ducking to get upstairs. There is a ground level bedroom so anyone having trouble with the stairs could stay there. The living room is plenty big enough for socializing and the bedrooms have good beds with enough space for your bags so it's a great landing pad for a weekend getaway. The kitchen is pretty tight so I wouldn't plan on preparing any large meals. We spent our time in restaurants and wineries so it wasn't an issue for us. The owner has everything set up nicely so we had zero issues. I'm sure they would have been on top of it if we did have any problems. The location is on the edge of town so you don't get a ton of street noise but it's still convenient to everything Grafton has to offer. I'd definitely stay here again.

Charming Grafton getaway!
We enjoyed our peaceful four-night stay in the comfortable Lil Red Guest House. The location is great, on the main street but surprisingly quiet on the weekdays we stayed. The house is cozy and a little quirky, just what we wanted for a Grafton getaway. We loved sitting on the front porch with an across-the-street view of the river. Thanks to all who recommended the Grafton Oyster Bar, a terrific restaurant just down the street, and thanks Mary for being such a responsive owner.

Lil Red, very great location close by all of Grafton entertainment.
I will give this a 5 star because it is very nice and close by everything in Grafton. For the price it couldn't be beat. Nice private area so you don't have to worry about disturbing anyone else. The only thing is it was a very hot weekend 115 heat index so upstairs was not very cool, finally took a fan and put by stairwell facing into bedrooms to pull air from downstairs and it help a little. Love the place and hopefully next time it will not be so hot but would recommend this quaint little place to have fun at! Thank you Mary for checking on us and making sure everything was good for us, I love that in a hostess!

Lil Red provided everything we needed for our stay!
On our Sister & daughter long -weekend trip, we found Grafton to be a very nice place to visit! The only thing we found challenging on our stay was five women sharing one bathroom! Lol! But we made due. A big thanks to Mary for making Lil Red a cozy home away from home! After wandering around the Grafton & Alton areas & seeing the local sites, shops, & restaurants, we came back to a cool, clean, & comfortable house to relax, play games, & spend time together. There is Plenty of space for parking, it is close enough that you can walk to most all of the attractions Grafton has to offer! We would love to visit the area again. Our weekend was lots of fun!

Great location, historic home with modern amenities
Four of us stayed for a ladies' weekend in Grafton. Lil Red was perfect. We loved the historic feel of the house and enjoyed the modern amenities including wifi and TVs/cable. The house is located on the north end of town so it's quiet but still in easy walking distance to most Grafton restaurants and shops. Our favorite part was enjoying our morning coffee on the front porch. Mary was easy to communicate with and assisted us when we needed it but left us to ourselves for the most part.

Enchanting Lil Cottage
Great location just outside of "downtown" Grafton--close enough to walk but far enough away from the fray to be relaxing. Great view from the front porch. Cottage was clean and very well suited for a small group. All the beds are newer and comfortable, no back issues for us old folk and the linens were pristine. Very charming decor and all of the basics are included. Grafton is a hopping little town on the weekends. The owner is very responsive and accommodating.

Charming Home!
Lil Red Guest House was perfect for our family stay. My son and his fiancé had an engagement party at Pere Marquette State Park. We needed a place to stay with a full kitchen to prepare food for 150 people. Mary made this happen with the fully stocked kitchen. The location was wonderful. Cross the street and your at the Oyster Bar! YUMMY! The bed liens were perfect for a good nights sleep. The house was quaint and clean. Thank goodness for the WIFI! My service was terrible and I had work to do! There is a TV in every bedroom, so anyone that wanted to watch something before going to bed could! Mary even left some morning treats for us! We will be staying here again, but next time we are going to go mushroom hunting or spend time in Grafton at the awesome wineries, restaurant's, shops, etc...! Thank you Mary for everything!! WE LOVED IT!!

I am from Jerseyville but lived in Grafron past several years.

Why they chose this property

I previously owned Lil Red ten years ago when I ran a coffee house out of it. It later became a guest house and has continued to be known as "Lil Red Guest House of Grafton". Unfortunately, the flood of 2019 destroyed Lil Red. Now standing high is “The New White House”. Wake up and enjoy a cup or coffee while enjoying the amazing views of the river. Conveniently located to ALL Grafton has to offer. One block from Grafton Winery and shops, one block from Hawg Pit, bike trail and Marina directly in front of you! Or go below and relax on patio and hike fixing your favorite meal on the 36” Blackstone grill.

What makes this property unique

High rise you have the best view of the morning sunrises or the evening sunsets. Massive front deck or back deck offers views all around.
