About this property

Spacious, Stylish Hse. Private Pool, Garden, roof terraces with stunning views

The house is ideal for both couples and families of up to 8 people and offers great value for our guests, whether you require one bedroom or four. You will find that the prices offered are very competitive and proportional to the number of guests. Just let us know if you have any questions or queries.
Our lovely house offers privacy and independence for its occupants, as each bedroom has its own en-suit WC, situated on its own floor. There is one large kitchen, dining area and a lounge all on the same level as the garden and pool. Having everything on the same level like this, makes it a lot easier to keep an eye on a young family. There is also a small breakfast area just outside and easily served by the kitchen. The garden has tables, chairs and sunloungers under the orange tree. Additional sun loungers if required.

The terraces also have many sunloungers where you can enjoy private sun bathing as well as the stunning views virtually in all directions.

The 2 ground floor bedrooms are beautifully cool in the summer and heated by radiators in the winter.
Another good feature is that the house is located on the "edge" of the village just beneath the old Moorish castle, where there is minimal traffic and a dedicated car park. Well away from all the traffic noise but within easy reach of all the bars and restaurants without having to climb steep hills unless, if you want to explore.
The house has 3 levels with bedrooms and wc on all of them. The kitchen is on the middle level and its large glass sliding doors lead you into a small courtyard, perfect for eating outdoors, especially at night when the castle is often lit. A small childproof gate takes you through to the garden where you find the pool and seating. Underwater benches run down the full length of the pool on both sides providing safety at arms reach for novice swimmers and a comfortable place to take that siesta, where you have sunshine all day long or lie in the shade of the orange tree or umbrella.
There are three roof terraces, all in close proximity. One has the gas barbecue and is ideal for dining outside on the garden sofas, round the coffee table. The other two terraces have sun loungers, ideal for sunbathing. One has some shade, and the other has full sun all day long.
I live just two doors away and am only too happy to help out with anything you may need.

Great House
Just returned from a 15 night stay in Tony's house, Gaucin. Tony, lovely guy, very easy to deal with, helpful and full of information about the area. We had lunch with him one day, great company. The house is huge and so comfortable, it has everything you need and more. We particularly loved the outside space and amazing views. Certainly didn't want to leave, it felt like home. There are so many lovely restaurants to choose from in Gaucin, our favourite being el Atico and for tapas Casa Antonia. A car is needed to visit places like Ronda and the coast, but there are also many places to walk to from the house. Great stay, thank you Tony, can't wait to return.

Fabulous in every way, location was superb, excellent for beach, horse riding, gorge swimming.
House was way above expectations. Had everything you need, and all the outside space was incredible. Plenty of room both in and out for our 4 teenagers and us to feel separate and relaxed. Pool amazing treat and we would have stayed longer! Really well done to Tony for providing such a lovely town house that offers the opportunity to explore so much of southern Spain. We will return!

Beautiful oasis of calm
Having just returned from a 12 day stay in this beautifully quirky house I can thoroughly recommend it. However, having had both ends of the age spectrum within our family group, a child of 3 and an adult of almost 80, I would advise a word of caution with all the steps and especially the beautiful circular steps to the top floor, both the youngest and oldest member of our family needed assistance with this. Steps and staircases aside, we loved the tranquility of the house, the views from the sunbathing deck, especially at night when the stars lit up the sky, and the pool, which was a big hit with the youngest of our group. Gaucin itself was equally mesmerising, truly Spanish with everything shutting between 2-5 everyday and yet so very welcoming. We rarely ventured past Gaucin, walking to the local shops which catered for all our needs. We were lucky enough to come whilst the local Feria took place, and although this made moving the car impossible as parking was at a prime, it’s actually far easier, and quicker, to walk. Tony, the house owner, was very welcoming and very accommodating with all our queries.

Lovely Rustic Village Home
We have just returned from our holiday where we stayed in Tony’s lovely rustic home in the beautiful village of Gaucin. Just being 2 of us, we rented half of the house but in fact if felt like we had the whole house which included a very large kitchen, sitting room and a huge bedroom with air con and ensuite shower room. The bedroom opened out onto a terrace with a seating area which led to 2 further terraces both with sun loungers. The highest terrace gave amazing views of the village of Gaucin and mountains where on a clear day you can see the rock of Gibraltar and Africa. The kitchen was well equipped with a large table, fridge, washing machine, dishwasher and a good range of utensils- everything you need to self cater. The kitchen opened out onto a lovely terrace and garden with a delightful pool and sun chairs to catch those sun rays! And even a view of the castle thrown in. Tony was a most charming and helpful host who lives next door but never instrusive. He acted as our taxi driver collecting us from Gibraltar and even drove us to Rhonda on a day trip. I cannot thank him enough for making our holiday stress free and so enjoyable. Gaucin is a delight... some pretty amazing restaurants along with some simple Spanish bars serving good quality food and tapas. I can wholeheartedly recommend spending your holiday in Tony’s house!

Quirky with great views
A beautiful and well equipped property with fantastic views from the terrace, perfect for evening barbeques. Set on different levels it is a really quirky place in a quiet location but within walking distance to the centre of Gaucin and the supermarket. The castle is a short though steep walk away and well worth a visit. Tony was incredibly helpful every step of the way and provided some lovely goodies when we arrived. The pool was great and although the area around it was small it was fine for our needs. We had a lovely stay here and would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Gaucin.

Lovely house in a perfect setting.
Tony's house was just perfect - spacious, comfortably furnished and well equipped. Everything required was provided. The welcome pack contained a comprehensive array of goodies, which was particularly useful on arrival. The garden was beautifully laid out with views of the ruined castle on the hilltop. Best of all was the series of roof terraces, all with amazing views of the wonderful surrounding countryside. Gauchin is a pretty white village, with narrow, winding streets and flower filled tubs outside most of the houses. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from and the local supermarket was well provisioned. The surrounding countryside can only be described as stunning. Tony was there to welcome us on arrival and available at any time to answer queries or give advice, but without being in any way obtrusive. We had an amazing three weeks and would have no hesitation in returning .

Quirky spacious house.
We had the most wonderful holiday at this quirky house, even though we found it difficult to find in the first place. It's nestled in the narrowest of streets just underneath the castle in Gaucin. Tony the owner, come out to find us, and left us to settle in, yes the welcome pack was excellent. The website pictures don't really do the rooms justice, the sitting room has three large settees and plenty of space for a family. It also has a very large tv, which wasn't working that well while we were there, and if you had youngsters I would check ( nothing is too much trouble for Tony, so I'm sure he will get it sorted ) The bedroom on the top floor is also much bigger than it looks on the website, and the bed is enormous. Views from this floor are stunning. The village is very friendly, we had locals helping us manoeuvre the narrow streets and parked cars ! There is a good supermarket, with a lovely friendly butcher. Also a wine shop,,which was very reasonable, and if you HAVE to have English products were cheaper than supermarket. Several good bars, where you can enjoy Tapas, and plenty of restaurants. You really don't need to leave the village if you don't want to. The spiral staircase was tricky, especially carrying BBQ stuff up to the top floor ,but we got the hang of it, and believe this is going to be replaced shortly anyway. There are several sitting out areas, all with stunning views, sun loungers and rattan furniture. The pool looked deeper than it was, and for me it was cold, but would be welcome Im sure in the hotter months. The sitting out area by this is quite small, and the beautiful Bougainville and Jasmine were rather dwarfed by the Ivy. We didn't spot the pool shower until the last day ! Small niggles : Huge tv, no English channels. BBQ up the staircase, would have preferred it outside the kitchen. Biggest Niggle : There was a very noisy water pump in the house, which came on every 15 minutes. To start with it didn't seem that bad, but latterly at night it was a nuisance. Would we go back ? Absolutely !!

Lovely house full of character
We have just returned from a stay in this lovely property. I was delighted with the house; it was comfortable and spacious with everything we needed for a great holiday - the photos don't really do it justice. We made good use of the pool and the sun terrace at the top of the house which has fabulous views all the way down to Gibraltar. I really liked the fact that there were different outside areas which meant that there was always somewhere to be on your own if you wanted it. There were plenty of sunbeds, towels and a good selection of tanning lotions etc. no doubt left by previous visitors! As other reviewers have said; there are a lot of stairs and the spiral staircase in particular to the top floor is quite steep. It wouldn't suit anyone infirm. Tony was on hand if we had needed anything but as everything was on hand we didn't really need to call on him. Gaucin is very pretty with some nice little restaurants where you can eat quite cheaply. Everything is walkable which is good as driving through the steep, narrow streets is quite challenging. We took a trip to Ronda which was beautiful and a whale watching trip from Tarifa which is about 90 minutes away from Gaucin but well worth it. Otherwise we just enjoyed lazing around the house and the pool making the most of all that gorgeous sunshine . If you do want to go out and about it is worth doing some research before hand as there isn't s lot of information at the house. There is good wi-fi though so you could look it all up when you are there. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay and we definitely plan to return.

Perfect stay in a picture perfect town!
The location of this house is perfect....five min walk from the center of town but away from the traffic and noise....well there really isn't any of that in this town of less than 2,000 people! Tony was a gracious host, attending to our every need and we thank him for the welcome kit of essential items. The villa's bedrooms are laid out over three floors. I would not recommend this villa if you have trouble with stairs. There is a double bed on the top floor, a double bed on the middle floor where living room and kitchen are and the first floor has two twin beds and a double bed. The temperature rises as you go up so in the cold weather expect to use the space heaters provided especially on the first floor. The villa had everything you could need, we cooked for 7 of us and the kitchen suited us just fine. The kids enjoyed the small pool and the small garden was very relaxing. The rooftop terrace was a playground for the kids, they loved it and the view is amazing, you can see Gibraltar and the mountains of Africa on a clear day. I would recommend the deck for stargazing as well! WIll definitely look to return to Gaucin and to this villa in the near future!

A wonderful holiday in Gaucin
We have stayed in many villas and apartments and by far, this property is one of the best. The house was rustic, authentic and charming. And the three different outside areas (pool/garden, veranda/BBQ and sun terrace) provided all you need for fun in the sun. The village is a traditional pueblo blanco which has restaurants and bars within 5 minutes walking distance from the house. Everyone in the village was so friendly. The property is in the oldest part of the village situated under the ruined castle (a must to see) and there is parking just round the corner. The property is very well situated in the area being only an hour or so from Ronda and Marbella and Gibraltar is 1.1/2 hours away. Tony the owner, was very helpful and accommodating, particularly when sorting out collection of our hire car after we'd had a puncture. He made all the arrangements with the local agent and we were supplied with a replacement the very next day. He was helpful even before we arrived; answering all my e-mails queries promptly. We will certainly be visiting the area again within the next few years, and when we do, we know where we'll by staying. Thanks again Tony!

wow!!!!
This property definately has the wow factor, the pictures do not do it justice. We were stunned by the size and space! Both my partner and I fell in love with this house and will definately be coming back. It is not perfect, it is a proper home, with lots of quirky features like the spiral staircase. You have a choice of bedrooms, all as lovely as the next. We stayed for two weeks and never felt like we couldn't be completely comfortable. Tony is brilliant, no matter what you want or need he is there to ensure a comfortable stay, his welcome pack is more than adequate for your first day and all basic essentials, shampoo, loo roll etc are provided, so shop after you have settled in. We spent our last evening having a meal with Tony and his lovely partner, Anna, excellent company! Gaucin is a beautiful town, do climb up to the castle, it's a lot bigger than you think. Lots of shops, not really a reason to go to the coast for shopping and the staff are all lovely. Lots and lots of walking areas including El Hacho, the mountain at the end of the village. We didn't eat in any of the restuarants, so can't give any advice there sorry. I highly recommend this property. Well done Tony!

A pefect holiday home
we have just got back from 3 weeks in this wonderful house. Firstly Tony, was brilliant in the lead up to our holiday, answering all our endless questions with total charm, through to the ease of booking. to booking our taxi to pick us up and leaving a very welcome, welcome pack on our arrival. The house is a perfect size for 2-8, lots of spaces to sunbath, relax, read, chill out and eat. The house was very clean with all the kitchen equipment you would need to make wonderful lunches and dinners. Great bbq!! the swimming pool is much larger than the normal plunge pools in Gaucin, perfect temperature in 42c, cool and refreshing, with a wonderful underwater ledge so you can read in the water. Wonderful views up to the castle. Tony was always on hand if you needed to ask him anything, he booked our table at the wonderful El Attico for our 10th wedding anniversary and so very kindly bought us a bottle of wine to celebrate. Nothing was too much trouble for him, which was so refreshing. Gaucin is a wonderful village, with lots of loverly tapas bars to eat in, all very affordable and also 3 very good restaurants. I could'nt recommend this house more highly, and really wanted to return next month, but unsuprisingly it was fully booked! this house represents such huge value for money in a village that commands such high holiday rental value. after writing this review I think I may struggle to book for next year unless I book very early!!!! Thank you Tony for a wonderful three week. Suki and Olly

Wonderful family holiday
Our first time all together in Gaucin and one to remember. We were greeted by Tony who was very helpful and welcoming, much appreciated after our long drive from the UK. The house was fantastic and more spacious than we had thought. It had everything we could want and more. Tony had made a real effort to provide a baby seat, cot and toys knowing that we were travelling with a baby and two older children. The roof terrace was a welcome haven to enjoy a bottle of wine (or two!) and the pool was great for the kids. Overall, a lovely stay in a beautiful village and wonderful house. Thank you Tony. we will be back! x

Great house in beautiful village
We had a wonderful stay at Tony's house, it is a perfect location in Gaucìn. The property is large and split over 3 floors with big rooms. It is great for entertaining or relaxing. The roof terrace has a table which is lovely for evening meals and the pool in the garden is perfect for the hot days. Tony was a great host, very accommodating and helpful.

A lovely place
We love Gaucin, it is like going back in time to an era when there were local shops and a sense of community and all this with lots of sun! We decided to try a different property to the one we had been in before as our daughter is now older and likes her own space. There was plenty of space here, set over three levels so excellent for families with older children or perhaps for two families sharing together. Downstairs there were two bedrooms, a bathroom and a small grotto area where you could sit when the heat of the day was too much. The mid floor is an open plan sitting room, kitchen and dining room - a huge space, with UK telly to keep the kids happy and excellent facilities in the kitchen. There is another sitting area, excellent for breakfasting, then the swimming pool which was well used. Lots of patio plants make this a lovely area to sit in the evening. Upstairs another bedroom with a separate sitting area and another patio area, lots of space and a big table for evening meals. Private sunbathing on this upper level too. All in all a great find and Tony could not have been a better host, there was a welcome pack of food and drink which covered most everything and he was on hand if we needed anything. The villa is situated near the lovely castle which is well worth a visit and close by are all the amenities you could want. Perhaps not the most perfectly finished property we have rented but it was very homely, we had everything we wanted and we very much enjoyed our fortnights holiday.

Lovely Village house
We have just returned from a lovely week in this perfectly situated village house, within easy walking distance of all the excellent local bars and restaurants. Bar Paco Pepe was particularly good for Tapas and very reasonably priced. The house is very spacious, we are two couples, our friends had the upstairs bedroom and we were downstairs, with the kitchen and living area separating us in the middle. So we each had our privacy but plenty of space to enjoy meals and drinks together, either inside or on the patio area. We also had a couple of excellent barbecues on the roof terrace. The private pool was small but ideal for a short swim and a cool off. The owner, Tony Martinez, was very welcoming. He provided us with towels for the pool on request. He also provided us with a welcome pack on arrival, which included amongst other things fruit, salad, vegetables and bread. Plus a bottle of wine and four extremely welcoming cans of very cold beer . The kitchen was very well equipped, although we ate out most evenings, we found everything we needed to barbecue and prepare light lunches. Free wi-fi was also a great help. The area is very beautiful, though a car is essential to visit the surrounding area. A visit to Ronda is a must ! One week is certainly not enough time to explore this beautiful area of Spain.

Great House
We (3 adults and 2 children) found the house to be perfect for all our needs. Location was great - beneath the castle in the upper, quiet part of beautiful Gaucin yet an easy walk to shops, bars and restaurants. The house can comfortably accommodate 6 people with a really big open plan kitchen/living/dining room and the pool and garden (with wonderfully sweet orange tree) - a great bonus in the summer heat. Toni was very friendly and helpful, came over if needed but did not intrude at any point. Lovely quirky house, lovely village.

Gorgeous Gaucin
The property was an oasis in the mountains. We had a 3yr old, 6yr old and Grandma with us and it suited us perfectly. The kids were in and out of the pool all day. Gaucin is a charming pueblo blanco village that has a relaxed atmosphere with supermarkets and restaurants, so you need not leave the village once you have arrived. Our stay was almost two weeks, so we did manage to get the kids out of the pool and explore some of the surrounding attractions which include Ronda, Tarifa - almost touching Africa was amazing, El Colmenar for a river swim - beautiful, and we did drive to Granada to the Alhambra for the day - but that was a little too much driving for one day so I would only recommend that if you had lots of energy! Gibraltor is also possible in a day trip, although we did not go ourselves. Tony was the perfect host and nothing was too much trouble for him. He was always on hand to answer our questions and provide advice, and any items that we may need that were not initially provided in the house. The house was clean and well kept and we loved the rustic nature of the property. Its position under Gaucin's castle was lovely. In the evening the castle was lit up and you could sit and have dinner with the castle in perfect view. For us, after a month of travelling in Spain and Portugal, Gaucin was a relaxing place to stay. I would highly recommend this property and Gaucin. We would love to return one day.

Host profile image
I've worked as a commercial artist in London prior to moving to Spain where I worked in construction and house maintenance. I am semi-retired now and with more time to hand, I am pursuing some of my suppressed youthful dreams, like painting, photography and gardening. I built the house slowly over 2 decades as time allowed. I have since aquired the old house next door but one, which is where I usually stay at weekends. I also stay in my cabin, on land that borders the river. I have my studio and workshop there as well as my cat plus all the strays. I never think of going back to the UK. There is a quality of life here that's hard to find back home.

Why they chose this property

This unique property has more than the average number of reviews, giving the traveler security in the surety, that this property is well liked by holiday makers. This is largely due to the owners living nearby, undertaking the management, maintenance and their 24hr availability to visitors. Being located on the edge of a very quiet part of the village, just under the Moorish castle, about 0.4km from the main road, gives it the unique benefit of having virtually no through traffic or traffic noise. Good vehicle access and easy parking close to the house are more benefits that much of Gaucin does not share. The house is close to both shops and countryside, the old Moorish castle and close to the start of many good country walks. The owners will be there whenever you need them. They are keen to ensure your privacy and to see that you have everything you need for a very pleasant stay.

What makes this property unique

I am the owner and I live and work in and around the village maintaining proprties.
I know the area very well and love to share my favourite locations with visitors. I am also available 24 hours, ensuring that you have a trouble free holiday.
