About this property

Tranquil cottage ideal for walkers

Middle Cottage sits in the village of tranquil Cornworthy. Out of the way of the tourist trail, this is a peaceful spot even in the height of the summer. 200-year-old Middle Cottage has been entirely renovated. Solid woods and crisp whites, and with painted and exposed stone walls, its modern living meets age-old character. There are gardens front and back, and views across the rolling countryside. The refurbished inn is close to hand, and it's walking distance to two brilliant waterside pubs.

Accommodation:

The stable door at the front opens into the slate-tile lobby with two steps up to the open-plan ground floor. The kitchen/dining area to the right is well equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, ceramic hob, fan oven and fridge with ice box, as well as microwave, kettle and toaster. To the left is the living area with a 3-seater sofa and armchair centred around the inglenook fireplace. Beyond the fireplace is the snug area with a 2-seater ‘snuggle' sofa and TV (The TV is on a pivoting wall bracket so it can be watched from the lounge area or the snug). The stairs lead up from the snug to the bedrooms and the family bathroom.

Upstairs guests will find the master bedroom which has an oak framed kingsize bed, furnishings and an annexe that can easily accommodate a travel cot (please advise upon enquiry if you would like one included). The second bedroom has a standard double and furnishings. The family bathroom has a heated slate tile floor, toilet, basin and bath with an electric shower over.

There's electric heating and a wood burner for comfort (the first basket of logs is provided during winter bookings).

Outside:

There are sheltered gardens at the front and the back of the cottage, both with patio areas and tables and chairs so that you can catch the sun at any time of day. Great for enjoying a coffee and croissant in the morning or a cold beer or hot chocolate in the evening.

Parking:

There is space outside to pull up and unload and plenty of unrestricted on-road parking just a few yards away.

Nearby:

The village pub is a 5-minute walk away. A good walk to the neighbouring village of Tuckenhay you will find 2 great waterside pubs or take a short drive to the village of Dittisham where you will find a pub with a village shop and a second riverside pub. Totnes is less than ten minutes by car, as are the superb beaches of Blackpool Sands and Slapton Sands. We highly recommend the Hunters Lodge Inn in Cornworthy

A beautiful, comfortable cottage in a gorgeous part of Devon.

We had a lovely 4 day break in Middle Cottage and it was so comfortable and cosy! We lit the real fire in the evenings, which was a real treat. It's easy to find as a postcode is given, and there is parking on the road just a few metres from the cottage. It is situated in a quiet little village and not too far from a couple of really nice pubs, and there is lots to do in the area. Our favourites were visiting the small, but amazing, museum in Dartmouth, and Agatha Christie's summer home, Greenway, which has beautiful views down to the River Dart. Just one thing to bear in mind is that there is only one bathroom for the two bedrooms (as described) and the shower is in quite a big bath with a high side so may be difficult to get in and out of for people with mobility issues. Overall, it's a beautiful, comfortable cottage in a lovely part of Devon.

A beautiful Devon cottage family holiday

Middle cottage was a brilliant base for a half term autumn break with our 5 and 2 yo. It was very well appointed with everything you could think of needing. The cottage was always warm and cosy, especially so with the wood burner going. The location was very quiet and tranquil with views across the open countryside and is in a great position for visiting Totnes, Dartmouth and beyond. It is a 10-15min from the nearest A road and we found the drive in and out quite stressful, especially with a van and at night, the roads are very narrow and steep at points The master bed was very comfy and overall we slept well. The second bed isn’t quite as comfortable but still okay. Overall we would highly recommend a stay at Middle Cottage :)

A very pleasant stay.

My wife and I were impressed with the cleanliness and quality of the fixtures and fittings. Middle Cottage is ideal for a get away from it all holiday. Dart Valley Cottages were efficient and communicated well. I would certainly recommend and rebook with them.

A fabulous few days

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at Middle Cottage and when we opened the front door were very pleasantly surprised at how much more spacious it was than it appeared from the outside! The cottage was very clean and well equipped and we enjoyed walks to both the Hunters Lodge and Maltsters Arms (the food was delicious at both) on a couple of evenings. The cottage is well sited for exploring the South Hams and my only regret is that we didn't have time to stay for longer!

What a cottage!

The cottage is absolutely amazing and very cozy. Furnished to a very high standard with some lovely touches and more kitchen utensils then you'll ever need. Makes a change to have pint glasses and knives that are sharp! Everything works as it should do with nothing broken or intermittent. There is a comprehensive welcome folder to help out and explain the working of the place, speedy broadband was also very helpful. The welcome basket was a lovely touch. Scones were delicious! Thank you!! Such a lovely base to reach fantastic beaches and pretty villages. Meal at local pub was lovely, staff very friendly and welcoming. Dittisham, Dartmouth & Salcombe are all within easy reach and Totnes has everything you need for shops etc. The walk to Tuckenhay and the village pubs is very worthwhile. Just remember it's uphil on the way back though.. We are already thinking about our returning holiday.

A lovely cottage let down by poor customer service

Our stay at this lovely cottage was let down by poor preparation of the property and customer service. There was no heating on when we arrived and no means of turning it on, nothing in the fridge (no shop in the village to buy milk) and as we later realised no hot water. At the time there had been snow so the place felt cold and bleak - I asked for more logs (5 provided) and was told where to buy them… When I complained about the hot water/heating I was given instructions on how to turn it on and given the list of other things that should have been prepared ahead of our arrival (most of which hadn’t happened). Is this my job when renting a property? Despite comments on the heating no one turned up to put it on. I was made aware that this was due to the owners failing to prepare it but the fact is it was a poor experience and I don’t feel was handled well or appropriately by Dart cottages

Great Week Away

There were two of us and the cottage was great. It sleeps 4 but with 4 adults the living space could be a bit crowded. Everything we needed was there and we enjoyed our stay. We were pre warned about some building work on the cottage next door and as promised it did not disturb us.

A Little Gem and a Relaxing Retreat

We have just returned from a lovely week at gorgeous Middle Cottage. As soon as we opened the front door I knew we were going to love it. It was spotlessly clean and there were some lovely homely touches all around, making it very comfortable. The TV area is also really cosy. Jane kindly left us scones, cream and jam for our arrival so that was a special treat. The little front garden is a mass of pretty flowers and is a real sun trap in the afternoon. I have to admit before we arrived, I was a bit concerned about the lack of on site parking, but we needn't have worried as there was always a spot for us just down the road where about four other cars parked. We never had a problem with parking and we were able to drive right up to the door to unload our luggage. There is also a lovely local pub which serves delicious food and the staff and locals are all very friendly. We ate there every night apart from two and it is within walking distance so no driving involved. Another little gem!

The best of the best!

We stayed at Middle Cottage for a week in July. When we arrived, we parked out the front and unloaded our car, then easily found parking just a few yards up the road. The cottage was spotlessly clean upon arrival and was the most equipt self catering accommodation we’ve ever stayed in - it felt like a home away from home. The kitchen had everything you could possibly think of, as well as cleaning supplies, candles, matches, playing cards etc. The bedrooms were lovely, extremely comfortable to sleep in. We were fortunate enough for have had a plenty of sunshine during our stay, where we were able to make use of the sun loungers in the garden. The garden was so peaceful and had its sun and shade spots perfect for the weather we had. What a wonderful stay at Middle Cottage!

Cosy Cottage !

We had a wonderfull week at Middle Cottage, despite some mediocre weather. It's an ideal cottage for a couple to enjoy and is located in a very quiet village with an excellent local pub that serves great food. The accomodation is in A1 condition, spotlessly clean and is by far the best equipped holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. The only minor mark-down is the lack of off-road parking. However, there is safe parking on the lane only a few yards away and this didn't cause us any problems. We're pleased to recommend Middle Cottage and would be very happy to return.

Middle cottage Cornworthy Devon

If you want peace and quiet in a lovely village this is the place to come, don't be put off by the narrow lanes to reach it ( that's Devon) Everything you need is here in the cottage, comfy beds and the accommodation is to a high standard.Handy for Totness, Dittisham and Dartmouth, plenty of walking trails and beaches, Bantham being our favourite. All you need is the weather and we had it ( 11th - 25th June 2021) Nice pub, friendly and food good. Gets a 10 out of 10 from us

Middle Cottage

A wonderful little property in a charming village. The house is immaculate and very well equipped. We were welcomed with scones, jam and clotted cream. We loved the area and the only downside was the weather which was just our bad luck. We would love to go back.

Lovely cottage

Lovely, tastefully furnished, well-equipped cottage, thoughtfully presented. Very comfortable. It’s well placed for exploring Dartmouth/Totnes area but there’s no public transport from Cornworthy village if that’s your thing. Good pub grub within walking distance however. Though only a few miles from Totnes there are quite a lot of single track, windy lanes to get there, if that bothers you. We had a great week and did a delightful walk from the doorstep to the waterside pub at Tuckenhay.

A beautifully appointed cottage in lovely surroundings

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Middle Cottage which was an absolute delight with lovely spaces to relax in inside and out, whatever the weather! It is beautifully decorated and furnished. The owners have thought of everything one could want (including jigsaws which we resorted to on a wet day!). We really appreciated the cream tea that greeted us on our arrival. Middle Cottage is a real home from home in a lovely part of the world with lots to see and do.The narrow Devonshire lanes are a delight to look at, and can be a bit of a challenge at times, especially in the height of the season we imagine. But well worth the fun of exploring and coming across another charming spot by the river Dart round every corner. Highlights for us included taking a ferry across the river to Agatha Christie's house; and traveling back in time on the steam train along the coast. The upstairs radiators/ towel rails didn't appear to be working but then we hardly needed them , especially as the bathroom floor has a heated floor! A truly lovely holiday place. Thank you.

A lovely tranquil place to stay near the river Dart

My 5 year old son and I have stayed in several locations in this part of Devon - Dittisham, Brixham etc, we love the area. But I really liked how peaceful and friendly Cornworthy was, more laid back, and I would definitely go back. We started to find and visit new places form here and it was nice to be able to do easy walks right from the house, down to the river. We always drive to Blackpool sands beach, but Pennywell Farm was a new one and my son loved it. There's a great kids holiday club at Dartington (humpty dumpty nursery) my son love it (camp fires and marshmellows go down a treat) while I went to the spa at the nearby Dartmouth Hotel and Golf Club. I walked down to Tuckenhay which was lovely also. Middle Cottage was really nice, lovely wooden floors and furniture throughout. It was handy having a bit of outdoor space just outside the kitchen. The kitchen/living area seemed more spacious than the photos. The second bedroom upstairs is definitely small though. There are fields etc all around, it was very peaceful. You can drop stuff off right in front and then can park your car a few yards up the hill. The heating was great morning and evening. I was in during the daytimes and couldn't work it out, so just put an extra jumper on and it was fine, even though it was really cold and windy outside. There were lots of extra things there that were really nice and useful - olive oil, milk, tea, coffee, jam and more that you often end up having to buy when renting. There were scones and clotted cream for our arrival. The owners were really lovely and nice. Dart Valley Cottages are always on the end of the phone and helpful, whatever comes up, like trying to find the cottage in the dark, or locking myself out.
