About this property

Ferry View - sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms

With river views from every room. Ferry View is an elegant 3 storey, 3-bedroom terraced house that has been beautifully modernised, ensuring you have a wonderful stay in Dartmouth year-round. The perfect romantic getaway for couples or for a holiday with friends and family. Ferry View benefits from a small private rear terrace garden, views from the lounge and master bedroom as well as the beautiful Sky Room that has a very unique balcony system to take in unrestricted panoramic views of the Dart. A parking permit is supplied for the town centre car park.

Accommodation:

The front door opens to the light and airy hallway which leads through to the open-plan lounge-diner with a subtle nautical theme. The lounge has a comfy sofa and armchair as well as a TV. The dining area has a large table with seating for 6.

Leading from the dining area, there is a kitchen with a large Belfast sink, solid wood worktops, fridge, single oven, induction hob, microwave, and Nespresso coffee machine (capsules not provided). The rear courtyard and terrace are accessed from the kitchen. The washer-dryer is in the built-in shed in the courtyard.

Upstairs from the entrance hall you will find the bedrooms and family bathroom. The master bedroom at the front of the house has a kingsize bed, plenty of wardrobe space and a dressing table and chair. There is a TV on the wall and beautiful views of the river and the higher ferry.

The second bedroom at the rear of the house is a cute bunk room, perfect for children (although the bunk beds are standard singles so can accommodate adults comfortably as well. There is wardrobe storage at the entrance of the room. Also on the first floor is the family bathroom which has a roll-top bath with an overhead shower, toilet and wash basin.

Upstairs again to the second floor you will find the open plan sky room. With stunning River Dart views due to the uniquely-designed roof system with three 6ft Velux windows that open out into balconies - great for watching the Regatta and the sunset from the estuary. This room also has hanging space and an armchair.

There's central heating throughout.

Outside:

Ferry View benefits from a decked area with a bistro table and chairs at the front of the property. To the rear of the property, there is a more private multi levelled courtyard with ample seating. There is a small utility room accessed from the rear garden for sporting equipment storage and use of the washer/dryer.

Parking:

The car park pass provided is valid for Mayors Avenue car park, a 5-minute walk away. The permit does not guarantee a parking space, and it can get very busy during the summer and special events, such as the Royal Regatta week (during which the car park is closed).

Nearby:

In front of the property is The Dart Marina Hotel where there is a pool and spa as well as a bar with seating on the waterfront. The Floating Bridge is just down the road, and from April to October, the Anchorstone Cafe is open at Coronation Park near the tennis courts.

Availability:

Ferry View is very flexible for reservations, with a minimum 3-night stay.

Stunning views, lovely house however kitchen was under equipped, not enough glasses, plates or utensils. Blind in the bedroom was hanging off the wall, contacted Dart Valley Cottages but no one attended to fix during our stay which was disappointing.

Charming but could do better!

Fabulous views and great location. A charming house, pretty well equipped and comfortable. The outside space, especially at the rear needs significant attention so don’t plan to sit outside. It’s really quite a mess and we were disappointed having selected a stay with outside space. General maintenance is required; lose tap in bathroom, chair leg almost falling off, almost every blind broken or shoddy. Refill your diffusers too. This place needs checking over - oh and scissors in the kitchen would be great!

Ferry View

A lovely house where the name Ferry View is suitable. Easy walk to local facilities and the car park permit is a valuable addition to being comfortable. Attractively fitted out and well furnished. Friendly and helpful neighbours

Another great stay

We are a family of five and regular visitors to Ferry View and this was another great stay. On arrival the house was exceptionally clean with fresh bedding and towels. Over the years the owner has made improvements such as putting in a dishwasher and a freezer. Since our last visit the house has undergone further maintenance such as repainting, new doors, new furniture etc. Yes as some other reviewers have mentioned there are other areas which could be improved such as replacing some of the broken blinds and more crockery and equipment in the kitchen but overall this is a great house in a superb location.

Well prepared house but needs repairs

We think the house when it was originally refurbished was to a good standard. Unfortunately there are now a number of issues which need maintenance to bring it back to that condition. Dart Valley Cottages and the owners have a list of the items needing attention. The information about the second floor balcony was very puzzling as to how it operated (no instructions) and did not appear safe to deploy.

Beautiful property and location.

The property was absolutely beautiful and very cosy. The views across the river were amazing. So nice to park the car up and not move it until we came home.

Great views

Ferry View, as expected, has lovely views of the river! Great location for walking into Dartmouth. Shame no welcome pack as we’ve always had in other Dart Valley properties .

A week at Ferry View

Disappointed on arrival to find steep hill and 18 steps up to property! Also not aware that the car park permit was a 15 minute walk away!Cupboard doors in the kitchen were hanging off which I reported to Dart cottages. They were brilliant and sorted the next day.We also had no thermostat for the heating but there again Dart cottages quickly sorted.Overall the house is nicely presented but needs some T.L.C. to bring it up to standard.Well positioned to tour locally with good views.

Ferry View

A beautiful property for our short stay our only disappointment was not being able to sit on the front patio due to brambles encroaching. The views however from the lounge and 2 front bedrooms were fabulous. Would highly recommend it is also ideally placed

Brilliant house, views and location!

We adored our stay at Ferry View. We really loved the fact that, as we were fortunate enough to have the hottest week of the year, there seemed to always be somewhere to sit to grab a bit of sunshine - with two different spots to sit out in the back and one at the front of the house (and the window pocket up at the top!) There were some maintenance issues that we managed to sort out ourselves by finding an allen key and a couple of screws, but then we were ok. Be aware that the seagulls will be asking to be your friend at 4am if you're there in the summer and have the windows open. But a small price to pay to be in that location.

Perfect holiday home.

The house is in perfect condition, and in a great location, just a short walk from the centre of Dartmouth, and with great views. I will go back! You have to drop your luggage off on arrival and then move the car somewhere else. So try to keep your things in a couple of bags, so not too many things to carry.

Views of the Dart

Excellent location with views over the Dart, very comfortable, only a couple of minor quibbles. Coffee maker was a pod machine which we weren't aware of so had to buy a cafetiere (two of our party panicking in case we couldn't find a shop), and no spare loo rolls were left.

Cottage ok. Mattress Disgusting.

I have alread contacted Dart Valley Cottages about the disgusting state of the mattress at Ferry View. We had thought that the mattress sagged a little but had decided to put up with that as the view from the room was lovely. However, we found out how bad the mattress was on our departure, as we stripped the bed (as per Covid instructions). The mattress was truly awful, stained and dirty. No-one should have been expected to sleep on it. There was no mattress protector on the bed as there apparently should have been. It truly turned our stomachs. We also found a temporary wooden post holding up the underside of the bed. The whole bed needs to be replaced. When I sent photos of the mattress to Dart Valley Cottages, they responded by saying they wouldn't have liked to sleep on it either. They did offer their apologies. We do not feel we had value for money on this occasion. The standard we expected was not reached. There were a few other, more minor, issues, such as the following: Some of the internal door knobs came off in our hand. Not a serious issue as the doors tended to be left open during our stay. The toaster looks like it is due for replacement. We didnt use it out of choice. The Juliet Balcony window would not stay in the raised position so we could not use the balcony. Which was a shame given the good weather we had. The wooden worktops in the kitchen and bathroom are water damaged and are hard to clean. There was a dirty plate and spoon on our arrival. We felt we had to wash the crockery etc before using. We wouldn't have necessarily raised these more minor points, but thought we ought to give a comprehensive review. The main issue is the bed and mattress. The cottage itself is in a great location, with lovely views and could be a nice place to stay if these issues could be sorted out. I have subsequently emailed Dart Valley Cottages but have not received any response. I would like a reply to my latest email. I couldn't recommend this property in its current state, but would probably do so if I knew the problems had been addressed.

Disappointing

It started with the neighbours having a go at us for unloading by a very rude man. The downstairs smelt of damp it was unclean and scuffy there were pots in the cupboard with dried on food baking trays and place mats too.in the double bedroom no tv remote until we moved the bed on Tuesday and it was underneath with various other bits of left over property by other guests. The clocks wasn’t working or the balcony in the sky room. The only decent thing was the view. We left on Wednesday I thought property’s had to be deep cleaned this certainly hadn’t and in COVID times we felt unable to continue our holiday.

Spectacular views in grand terrace.

High ceilings and plenty of large windows facing the river provide great views. Quality furniture and comfortable beds. Interior is tastefully decorated in bright whites and soft blues. Great quality linens and towels. Quiet location, away from the busy town centre, but close enough to walk to everything. Kitchen has cooking equipment and quality crockery and glassware. No dishwasher. Coffee pod machine available (BYO pods). Note: when buying groceries, the fridge is a small under counter unit but can fit a surprising amount of food for its size. No freezer. Ferry View is wonderful spot to sit and watch the river activities. Truly relaxing.

Lovely house in great location, only disappointment was cleanliness. Customer service very good.

Lovely house in beautiful location. Five minute walk into Dartmouth. We were able to bring our dog too. Our only disappointment was the level of cleanliness. Due to Covid regulations we couldn’t check in until 5pm and check out at 9 am for cleaning purposes which we completely understood. However, a lot of dust on skirtings, behind TV, doors and particularly in one of the bedrooms my son was in, old cereal down the sofa. This needs attention. The outside seating areas need some weeding and tidying too. Customer service however was very good. The Wifi didn’t work when we arrived with teenagers and after emailing this was quickly fixed the following morning. Overall a lovely break.

Ferry View Dartmouth

A stunning location with fantastic views of the river and the Higher Ferry, The location was first class and the house was well decorated in tasteful hues. The outside areas were great as was the size of both double rooms. My only gripe was the bunkbeds which were very rickety for 11 year olds so wouldn't want to see a fully grown adult on the top bunk! There is just one bathroom which was a problem at busy times but all in all a great stay!

Perfect location

We had a wonderful stay at Ferry View. The location was perfect for exploring Dartmouth and the surrounding areas. The views from the house are spectacular, especially from the top bedroom. The house it’s self is very comfortable and we are looking forward to returning soon.

Great location with stunning views

The Good Stylish house in a great location with stunning views of the Dart River. Comfy beds with lovely fresh bed linen and towels. Amazing loft room with pop out Velux balcony. Quiet location although if you are a light sleeper you will get woken by the naval base behind (left right left right..) Parking permit for local car park. The Not so Good The house would benefit from a deep clean. It was very dusty. The kitchen cupboards and oven was greasy, the coffee machine was still full of used pods and the TV controls etc tacky. The outside space is a let down. Dirty furniture and cushions. Yard unswept and unloved. No Freezer. Fan in bathroom doesn't work. Broken venetian blinds, door knobs that come off in your hand, stains on walls and ceilings. Nothing that a bit of maintenance and some redecoration wouldn't fix. Would we stay here again? Yes but next time I will take my Marigolds!
