Just returned form our stay at this fabulous property. It was glorious

The accomodations is arranged over 4 floors with the kitchen and sitting room on the ground level. The bedrooms and bathrooms were situated on the next 3 floors. As we were 3 couples and a baby we were lucky enough to have a floor each which was perfect. The kitchen was very well equiped, coffee machine, ice maker, and a full array of utensils, cooking facilities and crockery should you need. There is a comfortable sitting room with TV was next to the kitchen as well as a dinning room. The beds were very comfortable and the showers worked well. If you are not fit and able I should mention the climb to the top room was energetic and the last staircase quite steep. Luckily the couple who used this room were fit and able so not a problem for us. Outside there was plenty of seating for eating or just relaxing and the pool was very much enjoyed by everyone. The games room bought out the competitive family spirit and a good time was had by all. It was a lovely setting by the river and a short walk into a fairly quite town which provided some great restaurants. On market day however the place was buzzing and the array of goods on offer was plentiful and very tempting. A good supermarket is a short drive away offering almost anything you would need for your stay. I had a couple of questions for Paul the owner before our visit which were answers in a friendly and efficient manor. Angie the house manager was an absolute godsend with her local knowledge and help with any quirey we had during our stay. All in all I would highly recommend staying here.

A veritable gem with the right balance between privacy and closeness to everything

The description on the site does not do this property justice. The location could not be more idillic or better positioned. This is the landmark property in the village right on the banks of the river with fantastic outside facilities. We had full access to a very well stocked games room with push bikes, pool table, pool games, table tennis, table football etc etc. The photos again does not do justice to the size of the pool, size of the rooms, the hight of the ceilings in the property. This property strikes the right balance between privacy yet closeness to a very nice village with a lot of amenities. The quality of appliances is first class as you would expect of a property of this nature. Would highly recommend and would stay here again without a second thought.

About the host

Hosted by Paul

Host profile image
Paul and Saskia bought the Petit Chateau after they fell in love with the rustic charm of Saint Astier and the history and grandeur of the house which was built in the ‘Belle epoque’ era for one of the premier families of the area. Although still living in the UK they visit regularly to see the many friends they have made in the area.

Why they chose this property

The charm of the property is overwhelming, combining historic grandeur with 21st century modern amenities. Situated in a central location on the river with a short distance to the village and a short drive or train ride to the historic town of Perigueux. Bordeaux on the train from the village can be reached within 1 hour for the day and the vineyards of Saint Émillion and Bergerac within 40 minutes.
