This property offered everything we hoped for...a quiet comfortable place, nicely stocked with equipment for those of us that like to cook and an amazing view. Its conveniently located near trails and sites making our daily travels easy. The driveway is intimidating, especially in the dark but with slow are careful attention you've got it. We'd definitely recommend or revisit. Matt was super and responded to questions when we reached out.
Our family of 8 had a memorable vacation at the property. Its very private, but close to the SouthWest Harbor for shopping, dinner and groceries,
The views of the water were beautiful. Our favorite part on the property was the dock. We brought folding chairs to sit on at the water.
We brought 2 kayaks and rented 2 double kayaks locally that delivered to the property. After hiking in the morning, we enjoyed getting out on the water. We saw eagles, porpoises and seals close to the property,
The internet worked great from the house, so some of the family was able to work remote. Service at the bunk house wasn't as strong, though.
The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals and plenty of storage in the pantry.
We recommend the property and would return.
Lovely property. We loved watching the bald eagles flying around the property each morning. Internet service was fine when we needed to use it . . which was not often. Loved the location. Would definitely recommend. :)
This property was amazing! Our extended family of 8 loved every minute of our time at this piece of paradise! The property exceeded expectations with the ocean front views, shoreline to explore, dock that is as able to accommodate our boat for the week and beautiful house and bunk house! Matt and Jackie were great host, promptly responded to questions before our arrival and gave great instructions for arrival! House was well equipped and had everything we needed. Definitely a 10/10 property as all of the reviews have stated. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
This place is great! Private, but still with lovely views of Somes Sound. We rented kayaks and saw harbor porpoises and seals during one early morning paddle. The house had everything we needed for our family of four and could easily accommodate more. Though none of us slept in the bunkhouse, the extra bathroom there was a plus. The property is on “the quiet side” of Acadia and very close to Acadia Mtn trailhead and Echo Lake for swimming/paddling and we took advantage of both. More touristy Bar Harbor is only a 20 min drive and we went there twice (biking, schooner cruise). Matt was very responsive and helpful. I highly recommend this place!
Very happy with our choice to stay here for our Acadia vacation! The house is pet friendly which is super important for us, has a beautiful dock to enjoy the sound, and is close to hiking trails and not far from bar harbor. The host was super responsive to any questions as well. We will definitely stay here again if we’re planning another vacation to Acadia!
This was our second summer at this amazing property, and we are so grateful for our time here. The owners make everything so simple and relaxing. Can't wait to come back to this peaceful oasis along the ocean :)
We had an incredible stay at this beautiful property in mid-August. Our teenage boys loved the bunkhouse and the loft spaces. The kitchen has everything you could need or want to make meals at home. It is very peaceful and secluded, despite being minutes from Southwest Harbor. We loved having the windows open. Between the trees and water, the house was always cool. We could not get the wifi to work but that was a minor inconvenience for us. The gravel road to the house is narrow (and steep on one hill) but our rented Pacifica minivan had no trouble at all.
This place was amazing! Newer property that’s well maintained. The location is great, very secluded but not out of the way. Fishing from the dock was a blast. The only issue was not having the internet. The owner attempted to get it fix but it never worked. My wife was planning on doing a little work but that was out of the question. To make matters worse the cell service was terrible too. There is no TV which if you could stream a little wouldn't be a issue. At times I didn't have enough cell service to play pandora. Other than that the place was perfect. A great place to relax.
This property exceeded our expectations - clean, comfortable, location was fantastic, appreciated being in an area that felt very private and surrounded by so much natural beauty. Close to Bar Harbor (20 min), grocery store (less than 10 min), many of the must see/do things in Acadia NP.
Two additional things that might be of interest -
1) Our adult son uses a wheelchair exclusively for mobility. This house, while not officially ADA compliant, is very suitable for people who use manual wheelchairs. Entry into the home was via ramp and a small bump into the house through a sliding door. One of the bathrooms has a large shower stall with a seat, so we were able to assist him with self-care. We always like to mention this in reviews for families like ours!
2) Appreciated Matt's responsiveness with directions. Plan on getting to the house while it's still light out if possible, as it could get tricky in the dark. The path to the house is one car wide, Y's off in a couple spots, and is gravel. We have a wheelchair accessible Dodge Ram ProMaster, and there were spots on the way out from the house with a steep grade that were troublesome. If you have an all wheel drive vehicle, you won't have any troubles. Again, just a mention because we don't think our Honda Odyssey wheelchair van would have made it on the path because of it's reduced ground clearance.
Overall fantastic experience, thanks so much for sharing your cozy home with gorgeous views!!
Our trip was fantastic - voted best vacation by the family - and young adults are a tough crowd to please. We were Close to Acadia hiking, biking and kayaking. The mountain air was cool and clean - and total privacy on the home. House is very comfortable and clean. You cannot beat the views from the house porch and bedrooms. The house has a dock for fishing and Bruce gave us a recommendation for kayak directions to go - my son saw a waterfall, jellyfish, some fowl and a dolphin while fishing from his kayak. Places to eat - McKay's pub, Geddy's restaurant and Graffiti Donuts. Food stores and walmart are close in case you forget anything from home. Can't say enough great things about this home and location. Excellence at its best.
What a pleasant experience for our first visit to main. Matthew was great to work and it’s obvious that they put a lot of thought into making sure their guests enjoy the stay. The location was breath-taking. Very private, about 1/4 mile off the road on a gravel drive. Amazing estate with private shore line and dock. Excellent view of the park with little boat traffic or other residential areas in sight. A quick five min drive to a handful of great trails - Acadia mountain, beech cliffs etc. there is a grocery store about a mile as well. The cabin is nicely appointed and the kitchen has everything you would need to prepare meals etc. the beds are comfy and had plenty of linens and blankets. Our weather got a little turned upside down - rainy and low 40s for the first 3 days. The cabin can get chilly but they had portable heaters for the bedrooms and plenty of blankets.
Without a doubt would stay again. Just all around and great and memorable vacation. Thanks!
First time in Maine and we are in love ! We stayed here the first week of October and it was amazing. So close to Bar Harbor and all of the major Acadia hikes. Cabin was well equipped and clean. Tranquil and secluded yet so close to everything. Bonus it is pet friendly ! Our Dogs actually got to become Bark Rangers while we were here ! Hosts were very nice and there to answer any questions we had ! 10/10 recommend !
What a wonderful home on the quiet side of the island! We stayed at the end of September and the weather was perfect all week, we enjoyed the hikes nearby as well as Echo Lake Beach. It's about 20 minutes into Bar Harbor, and Southwest Harbor had plenty of amenities as well. Before we checked in, Matthew called to ask if we had any questions and go over a few points about the house, and we were able to connect with him during our stay when needed. The road to the house is not paved, but we had an SUV so that wasn't an issue. The house is very secluded, quiet, and peaceful. The gas heating stove wasn't working, but there were small heaters, and the windows let in a lot of sun, so after a bit of cold in the morning, the house warmed up very nicely (we also brought robes and slippers). The kitchen was well stocked for making meals. There is no TV which wasn't an issue for us, we connected to the wifi on our computers, and brought a bluetooth speaker for music. The biggest advantage of this home is the dock and location on the water, we rented kayaks and saw seals and bald eagles, it was so peaceful. Even just enjoying coffee in the morning or a drink around sunset sitting on the dock or deck was amazing, the other house on the property was empty and we enjoyed walking along the beach there at low tide as well. The view from the bunk house deck was equally nice. Plenty of space for a friends or family getaway, we had our Great Dane with us as well. We look forward to another stay!
We enjoyed our stay at this attractive and spacious house very much. The view of the Sound from the deck and bedrooms is amazing. The owner was very responsive. We hope to return.
This house is tucked back in the woods in quiet solitude. The limited views of Somes Sound was just enough so that when I was sitting on the deck in the early morning, enjoying my coffee, watching the water and the boats go by in the distance, I knew I was in a place that I could easily call home. Peaceful, charming, and relaxing are the best words for me to describe this idyllic resting place in the woods. I would definitely come back here again. I loved it here.
We absolutely loved staying at this home. Every component was so thoughtful, and it was easy to tell how much the owners cared about the property and the local area. The kitchen was well-stocked, as were the (very clean!) bedrooms and bathrooms. There were plenty of activities nearby, as Echo Lake is right around the corner and Southwest Harbor is down the road. We really enjoyed fishing off the dock in the mornings and evenings and brought our kayak to paddle around Somes Sound. All in all an amazing place to enjoy everything that Mount Desert Island has to offer — thank you!
Great property, great location. Quiet and peaceful, after a big day of hiking, biking or kayaking it was wonderful to come back to this beautiful property and relax. Matt was great, promptly answered all of our questions and was onsite to help us get settled in. I would definitely come back to this home again.
We had a wonderful time at this property in Maine. The property was beautiful, clean and very well located. We were minutes away from Acadia Nat'l Park attractions and Bar Harbor. Everything you could want was a short drive away. The views of Somes Sound from the property were gorgeous. We saw loons, ospreys and porpoises. Fishing off the dock was great. Our hosts were very attentive to all of our needs. They were a pleasure to deal with. We highly recommend this property if you want a relaxing and very enjoyable vacation.
“Tree Tops” provided just the retreat our family needed. The location was beautiful with the house and cabin tucked into the forest just above Somes Sound. A clearly-marked gravel pathway from the driveway took you down to a dock. While our family did not sail or kayak, we enjoyed strolling down to the dock to take in unobstructed views of Somes Sound. The house was perfect for our family. My husband and I enjoyed the master bedroom with two walls of large windows allowing you to wake surrounded by nature. The layout of the house, with bedrooms on the opposite sides of the house, and doors directly from each bedroom outside, gave our daughter and her partner privacy and allowed them to take their dog in and out without disturbing us. And our son and his partner enjoyed the adventure (and privacy) of staying in the cabin. While the great room was a comfortable gathering space for all, we spent much of our time on the deck of the house relaxing, listening to the birds, and taking in the view. We did not do too much cooking, but note the kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, serving dishes and an array of dried spices. The location was outstanding. We were minutes from trailheads to hike Acadia and other mountains along Somes Sound, as well as minutes from Echo Lake Beach. You can reach the core attractions on Acadia’s Park Loop Road in less than a half hour. Finally, our host reached out prior to our arrival to solicit questions and be sure we’d be prepared to navigate the gravel path to the property and he answered questions promptly during our stay. Our experience at “Tree Tops” exceeded our expecations.
The cabin and bunkhouse was the perfect place for us to relax after day hikes at Acadia N.P. This property had everything we were looking for...cabin charm, privacy, acres of woodlands, mountain view and a beautiful spot overlooking Somes Sound. Not sure which we enjoyed more....the wonderful hikes or just coffee on the deck in the mornings watching seals and lobster boats.
A classic Maine property in the most beautiful possible setting. Privacy, water, mountains are all there to enjoy to the fullest.

What makes this property unique
The house is one of two family owned summer camps on a 23 acre parcel with 1800 feet of ocean front. The other house is lightly used by family and separated from this one. The property offers very unique privacy and quiet yet access to everything on MDI. We love coming home after a day in the park or the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor to relax away from the crowds.
