About this property

The "Eagle Nest" cottage on beautiful Lac Vieux Desert Lake

IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON BRINGING YOUR OWN BOAT, you need to contact us (send an inquiry through this site) prior to making an ON LINE booking so we can determine if we have a suitable boat-lift for your boat. We rent boat-lifts (to make sure your boat is safe) for $75/week or $25 for the first day and $10 for the following day(s) - whichever is less. Every guest who brings his/her boat must use a boat lift, because it is impossible to "park" the boat by the shore. Please note - the fee for a boat-lift is not included in the cost of renting the cottage.
It is not allowed to use any kind of air-conditioners in the cottage.
In summer time (June 01 to August 30, 2025) the cottage is rented for FULL weeks only: Saturday to Saturday. Off-season we rent for three nights minimum.
There is WiFi access available in our office for checking e-mail.
Our property is inspected and licensed by the Vilas County, WI, Public Health Department.
You will be very happy with our spacious, modern, super clean, housekeeping 2 bedroom cottage which can accommodate up to 4 guests (per Vilas County Zoning Department's ordinance) on 1 double bed, 2 twin beds and a futon. Quotes you receive through this site are based on a standard rate for up to 4 guests in the cottage. The cottage is completely furnished including bed linens. Please, remember to bring your own bathroom towels and kitchen dishtowels+dishwashing liquid. A big, modern kitchen has a full size refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and all necessary pots, pans, plates and utensils. There is also a DVD player and a TV set in the cottage (there is no TV reception at our location). You can bring your PET for a vacation here: a weekly rate is $95 per pet; a daily rate is $35 for the first night and $10 for the following night(s). There will be a $100 fee charged for cleaning IF dog hairs are found on bed spreads, blankets, any bed sheets, or furniture. All guests will be required to give a credit card number upon registration.

The cottage is located on beautiful Lac Vieux Desert Lake in the heart of Wisconsin's Northwoods lake country and the Nicolet National Forest. We are just a few miles north of Eagle River, WI. We are open in spring, summer and fall and offer you a knotty-pine interior cottage that will suit all your lodging and accommodation needs, all surrounded by beautiful and fragrant old pine trees and majestic oaks. There is an abundance of wildlife here, on the lake and in the area. Make sure you bring a pair of binoculars with you - there are a lot of eagle nests all around the lake and you can see and hear eagles and loons every day. You will also see ducks, swans, and otters here. Deer very often visit the area.

We are located on the south shore of Lac Vieux Desert, the headwaters of the Wisconsin River.

Our beautiful lake is famous of its record musky (a World Record Musky was caught here), walleye, northern pike, perch, small mouth and large mouth bass and panfish fishing, and is one of the largest in the state with 4300 acres and 19 miles of fantastic shoreline and 4 islands.

The 610 sq. ft. cottage (located 15 yards from the lake's shore) has 250' lake frontage to be used by our guests. There are two piers on the property to be used by our guests.

No refunds for early departure. Rates based on up to 4 people occupancy in the cottage.
If you are not charged for the following items when you make a reservation on line, you will be required to pay for them directly to us upon arrival / registration by check or cash:
- per pet: $95.00 per week or $35.00 first night and $10.00 following nights (but no more than $95.00 total);
- boat motor rental: $299.00 per week or $85.00 a day + 6 gal fuel tank (market price) (no more than $299.00 + gas);
- boat lift: $75.00 per week or $25.00 first night and $10.00 following nights (but no more than $75.00 total)

Come stay with us in spring, summer and fall and enjoy many wonderful vacation activities in spring and summer such as swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing, hiking, berry picking, golfing, horse back riding, bicycling, ATV riding, scenic driving and wildlife watching. There is plenty to do in fall, too. You can enjoy watching the northern forests burst into brilliant fall colors as well as musky fishing and hunting. The cottage is located on the ATV trails in the Nicolet National Forest.

Uncomfortable and outdated

Owners were very nice. The beds were very uncomfortable. No WiFi or tv reception. Fishing was not good. No ramp to put boat in by cabin.

You Must Vacation Here!

We stayed in Cabin #4 at the Oak Ridge Resort on La Vieux Desert lake near Phelps for several days recently. I cannot more highly recommend this location to others. Steven and Katherine were very accommodative in meeting us at the dock when we arrived by boat at a pre-arranged time of our choice. They immediately struck us as very friendly and helpful, and within a few minutes we felt like we had known them a long time. Steven showed us our cabin and other facilities on the property, including how to best use the boat lifts, the minnow barrel, a locker for storing our fishing gear (saved time and allowed us to keep our gear out of the cabin), and the fish cleaning station (very nicely equipped to make cleaning your catch very efficiently – more on the “catch” in a moment). Our cabin was very well furnished – modern stove and fridge, dishes, glassware, and virtually every utensil you will need. If you haven’t done any fishing on La Vieux Desert, you are missing out on one of the best lakes in the Midwest for variety and potential for trophy size catch. We limited out on panfish (crappie, perch, and bluegills) in a couple days. Steven gave us a great tip on where to catch panfish just off the resort’s piers – following his suggestion netted us some great size crappies (threw back anything less than 8 inches). On this visit we did not try for game fish, but in previous visits we’ve had a huge number of large northern strikes and witnessed a generous number of muskies being taken as well. We had just a terrific time overall – Steven and Katherine clearly care very much that their guests have a fabulous vacation and ours was no different. We are already thinking about possible dates for a return visit next year, expecting that memories on our next visit will be similar to those from this year.

Musky Nutz

Everything about the cabin was awesome! The owners were fantastic, cabin was well equipped, beds were comfortable and overall cleanliness was amazing. Fishing was great, my grandson enjoyed catching keeper sized panfish right off the dock. My wife and I are already planning our return visit for next year. I cannot say enough good things about the Oak Ridge Resort. Thank you for having us!! Rick Van Rite

Amazing Family Vacation

My family of husband/wife and two children stayed a week here in late July. We had an amazing vacation. This cabin is off to the side and secluded from the other 2 on the lake front. Fishing and swimming from the pier was great, tho not at the same time! Little details that made the stay even more enjoyable then the peaceful solitude was finding an 8" cast iron skillet in the cabinet and then finding ice trays in the shapes of fish and hearts. We saw the Milky Way at night and took several day trips to nearby waterfalls and lakes with swimming beaches. There was no lack of activities. Our German Shepherd also enjoyed his stay! I'd recommend bringing a tie out if you have a larger dog. It worked fabulous. The hosts were gracious, polite and informative. They gave us a great recommendation for a rainy day activity. I would highly recommend this location.

A Great Weekend Getaway

This was the perfect property for a weekend getaway with my significant other. As soon as we arrived at the front office, Katherine and her husband greeted us as they had known us for so many years, which made us feel so welcome. They were also kind enough to give us some local recommendations for dinner and things to do. The cabin itself was very tidy and showed that they really care about their guests. The boat motor that was provided was also in great shape and was easy to use. Overall, I would recommend this rental to anyone who is looking for a picture-perfect Northwoods getaway.

Wonderful vacation cottage

The cottage and the grounds around it were wonderful. I am committed to a wheelchair and could get around the cabin no problem. Get in the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen where the wife made me do dishes. The hoste were fantastic and we enjoyed chatting with the. Overall a wonderful stay.

Wonderful cabin and lake!

I can’t say enough good things! Awesome owners, lake and property. Fishing was great and added bonus was some of the best pier fishing I’ve had. Tons to do in the area. Have already booked for next year!!

Clean and cozy. Good value.

A rustic cabin, but very clean. Right on the water with a pier for fishing. Quiet and private. Owners very nice. No WiFi or TV reception in the cabin and limited cell reception in the entire area. Bring some books to read and DVD's for the DVD player!

Beautiful resort!!

We have stayed in many resorts on Lac Vieux Desert (and surrounding lakes)and I have to say this is the cleanest cabin we have been in by far AND they allow you to bring a pet (for a very small fee). We were greeted by Kathy and Steven at their house and then they showed us the resort. It is beautiful and quiet. The cottage was immaculate! Comfortable and for a place that lets pet stay, it was fresh and clean. No "pet" smells. I like the fact that we had our own picnic table, fire pit (with a free bundle of wood) and storage area. The cabin is stocked with very nice dishes, glasses and utensils. The appliances are all modern and in excellent working order. I just could not get over how clean the cabin was not a cobweb in a window or light fixture. Just wonderful. Our little dog liked it too. Quiet, relaxing, and fun. My only drawback is the steep hill you have to go down to get to the cabins. If you have a low car you will not get past some of the rather large "bumps". We drive a minivan and we were scraping the bottom of our car in a couple of places. Just have to go real slow. This is a well loved, well taken care of, beautiful location and reasonably priced resort. I will definitely come back with my family

Exceptional Fishing Location

My brother, two son-in-laws and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this Lac Vieux Desert location. Cabin and resort amenities were a perfect fit for our fishing group as it provided what we needed for relaxation and exceptional fishing excursions onto this magnificent venue. Our stay was highlighted by cooperative weather and fantastic bite by multiple species although our aim was really pan fish. On this particular trip, the crappie bite was beyond our wildest expectations. Cabin was clean and comfortable, and stocked with all that we needed to eat, sleep and fish. The minnow well on site was an added plus that I didn't know to expect as I had not reviewed all the amenities on the vrbo website. The resort hosts met us at an appointed time to familiarize us with the property and could not have been more helpful. They were friendly, polite, and most informative on potential fishing hot spots. We used two boat lifts during our stay and would strongly recommend them as a safeguard for storms as any northerly winds drive the water toward the property. Docks were easily accessible and also allowed for interim (and successful) fishing when we weren't out on the water. Since we brought our own food and beverages, we did not conduct any excursions off the property except to purchase (and repurchase) minnows at a local bait store (The Minnow Bucket) which was only minutes away from the property location by vehicle. The fish cleaning station was screened-in and lighted, and provided a fair amount of protection from the voracious mosquitoes especially since we had to clean fish each evening after dark. Perhaps one drawback besides the mosquitoes was the fact that the property is located on a steep incline - meaning we really got our exercise climbing the hill to get our catch from the lake to the fish cleaning station. For me, the stay was thoroughly enjoyable and I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a great fishing venue in the beautiful northwoods of Wisconsin. -dd
