About this property
Come to Château Laleuf for a digital detox !
A refreshingly internet and “off air” television free Chateau with a deep Napoleonic history sleeping up to 15 in 9 bedrooms, Laleuf is just a few kilometres from a large university town, but nestles in it’s own extensive, peaceful grounds right in the middle of gorgeous rural countryside.
Known as the “last undiscovered area in France” you’ll have horse riding, a paintball park and adventure ground (for the energetic !), or, wildlife, forests, and nice easy flat walking terrain (for the more sedate !) right on the doorstep. A short drive away lies Chateauroux, a large town with every conceivable amenity, so you’ll never be “cut off” from the World, but you can easily escape the “worst” of it !!.
Ideal for birds and wildlife lovers, Laleuf is located 3 hours drive from Paris, just 8 km away from Châteauroux, about one and a half hour drive to the Loire castles, and around 40 minutes to Valencay, Talleyrand’s castle, Nohant, Georges Sand’s estate, or Bouges-le Chateau (a jewel from the XVIII century).
There is an extensive range of individually appointed spaces including a family room with adjacent children’s dining area, drawing room, dining room, the 9 bed rooms (of course), a long gallery which spans the entire width of the front of the house catching the morning sun, a second independent kitchen: ideal for a 2 family share or maybe splitting a large group by generation, and even a dedicated bedroom for a childminder right next to a Childs play room.
Kitchens are fully equipped with cookers, hobs fridges, freezers, cooking utensils, china, cleaning equipment Etc. Bedding and fresh towels are supplied and bathrooms have baths … so you can have a luxuriant soak after a hard day with your feet up reading !
For larger groups, the "Maison du Potager" is also available for renting with an extra charge, a 150 yards walk from the Château, accommodating two more couples with 3 to 5 children. The two houses combined offer 12 bedrooms for up to 23 people.
For horse owners, "Maison du potager" has a grass field that can accommodate your four-legs companion. More details on horses availability upon request.
Just bring yourself and your group of family or friends and enjoy !!

About the host
Hosted by Richard

A French family rooted in the area since the XIVth century (maybe more, but we lack documents !), we have lived abroad with our children, while carefully maintaining deep roots in our Berry property. Having Laleuf listed as a French Historical Building (ISMH) has given us an ample insight into its unique regional historical features. The site attracts continuous interest for Academic research, and a lot remains to be done !
Why they chose this property
The family has been owning the property for more than a century. We have devoted our competences and means to save and restore the whole, as well as making it possible to share our interest in this unique historical place. And we keep on finding. The more we learn about the property and its history, the more we find to discover ! We have done out best to maintain the spirit and keep the unique smell of history alive. You shall see for instance in the various rooms the sculptures of our grandfather, from his atelier in Montparnasse, as a follower of Nivet and Rodin.
What makes this property unique
The property is an enclave in the forest, whose integrity has been preserved through the ages. The house and the place provide a historical surrounding that remains compatible with daily life, as you would not find in a museum, giving you a taste of what life has been in the countryside accros times.
