This was a lovely spot in outskirts of Hilo. It’s perfect for a couple with combined living room/ kitchen/ dining area with separate bedroom with attached bathroom and shower. There is a narrow porch with sitting area overlooking a long open lawn. There are roosters next door that start crowing at about 5:30 but didn’t bother us as we had fan on. But there are ear plugs available. We actually liked the crowing. Also lovely coqui frogs at night can be heard. The hostess was lovely.
Really enjoyed my stay. My host was very gracious and kept me informed. There were no issues with animals. There was a white peacock that was fun to see daily for 15 min - hope I did not spoil her. I am a songwriter and wrote a song about my stay and will always Thank my host for giving me the opportunity to stay. If you like country living, there is none better than this house. I stayed 2 months and enjoyed the house. Close to town and events. Open the doors and did not really use the air conditioner with the nice breeze. 47 years on the road and this is one of my best stays - very safe. Thank you, Lillias - truly in my bucket list - JW
Beautiful spot, just a short distance out of town. Everything we needed inside, with some rain, sun, and wonderful fresh air outside. Windows almost all the way around with a country view. Yes, there are roosters next door, but the crowing didn't bother us at all. Lovely host, excellent communication.
Out of hustle and bustle of city, enjoyed area, neighbor raising roosters was a distraction but earplugs shut them out, owner was fun to work with, view was great, property was pleasant, spent 3 months and worth price. Had everything we needed for extended stay.
The cottage is perfect sized, and comfortable for 2 adults. It had everything we needed for our stay. A tea kettle of some sort would be a nice addition but a small saucepot & lid worked fine.
AC worked well and was nice until we had a couple days to aclimate to the heat. After that opening the sliding doors in the evening and having ceiling fans on kept everything very comfortable without needing AC.
The roosters are loud, but the owner is very upfront about them when booking. Earplugs kept by the bed for when they start early morning crowing worked well for me, my husband slept right thru the crowing most mornings.
The location is perfect, close enough to "town" for anything you need or want to do, far enough from town for great night viewing of stars.
Owner is fantastic and reached out in person via phone right after booking, right before trip and the morning after arrival to be sure everything was fine.
My wife and I had a great two week stay at this comfortable and spacious cottage near the edge of Hilo but within a short drive to the shops and the surrounding attractions. The wrap around windows, doors and deck allowed us to open up the living room and kitchen so that we rarely used the A/C since there was a good breeze most of the time. The serene views of the expansive front yard and surrounding pastures were appreciated every day.
A note about the roosters. During our stay, they were nice and quiet in the evening and the first half of the night, not a peep out of them when watching a movie and going to bed. We felt it important to say this, it is not all night. It's true they start up before daylight but good ear plugs work quite nicely.
It was always a pleasure to hear from Lillias because she does such a good job communicating, keeping in touch with just the right amount of contact so she can answer any questions.
We definitely recommend her place for a stay on the windward side of the island and would stay there again ourselves. Thank you Lillias!
I can't say enough how much I enjoyed my stay at this property. As you can probably see in other reviews, yes the neighboring property has roosters, and yes they do make a fair amount of noise. The property owner was extremely up front about it, and made sure multiple times prior to booking and when confirming that I was aware. I stayed for 2 weeks, even having work calls during the sunrise timeframe, and the roosters in no way bothered me. If you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs, and you shouldn't have a problem. I had no difficulty sleeping. Trust me, the lovely rental and beautiful property far outweigh any noise you might hear.
The property owner was fantastic, communicated frequently, and was very accommodating. The property is well equipped, private, and an easy drive to everything you will want to do in the Hilo area. It is on the same property as a family home, however it is not attached to the home and the many lovely windows face out to the expansive yard and serene setting. The living area is surrounded on 3 sides by windows with sliding doors that you can open up to feel like your own tropical oasis!
I love to cook, and the kitchen had everything I needed. The bed was very comfortable, and the living room was a great place to hang out and relax.
I visit Hilo every year, and have stayed in several vacation rentals in the area. This one is a gem! I will definitely look for this place again the next time I am in Hilo.
Stayed two months here. Place is located in a really private area on the outskirts of town. Lilly, the owner is terrific, she also respected our privacy and was very accommodating. The place itself is nothing fancy, but clean and functional. We would stay again if we found ourselves in Hilo again someday.
Great Location - My visit to the island to see family and friends was so much nicer with a centralized location that I could come back and kick up my feet. The rental was well furnished and very comfortable. Whenever I come home I will be seeing if this place is available.
The property is situated within a few minutes of Hilo. Country setting beautifully well maintained with privacy. The host was very accommodating to our needs and was available to answer questions.
Nice private place; lots of space in the unit, good communications with owner. Neighborhood chickens weren't a problem for us as we ran the a/c while there, and the noise from the a/c drowned out the crowing of the roosters.

She seemed nice but the property wasn’t up to par
To put it politely, it was worth the money she refused to refund us to leave as soon as possible. Hopefully she will consider using that money to hire someone to clean her guesthouse properly, so as not to be a health and safety issue for future guests. Once cleaned, I imagine it would be a charming little stay. Photos of the living room were different than the actual living room. It just needs to be a bit updated and cleaned thoroughly. I woke up in a panic in the middle of the night and smell of mold and we just had to leave. She is nice but it took a long time to get a response and partial refund.
Lillias is a great host. She cares about her guests' comfort (great cookies). She warned us about the roosters, but we decided to stay anyway. Glad we did! If in Hilo will stay here again.
This was a perfect place for my extended visit to Hilo for research. It's cool & breezy w/ a nice view, and very quiet (ok, except for the roosters - but you get used to them!) Property owner is very nice and very responsive.
Great location, clean and comfortable. Roosters nearby take a little getting used to but all other amenities out weigh the noise. The house had all we needed for our 7 week stay.
This place was perfect for us; even the crowing roosters were OK. It is located close to food stores & restaurants, but is out in the country in a very private location. It had everything we needed to be comfortable, even an air conditioner (which we used very little). Internet worked perfectly & the washer/dryer was a big plus! Would go there again!
