Renew at Olde Blue, a Hatteras Island Beach Escape

Olde Blue is located in the tri-village area of Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo on Hatteras Island. Located four lots from oceanfront with wide white sand beaches (3 minute walk). This single level home has only a five stair entry with covered carport. Completely remodeled 4 bedroom, 1.5 bath home that is kid, baby, and dog friendly. Spacious bedrooms are located on either end of the house with conveniently located bathrooms. The Palm Tree bedroom located on the north end of the home has a queen bed next to the main bathroom. The Pirate room also has a queen bed located next to a "jack-n-jill" half bath shared with the Surfboard room which has a double bed. The Blue Dolphin room is a large bedroom with two queen beds and a bunk bed set.
The home has an open floor plan with a well stocked kitchen, a breakfast bar, dining area with a family size dining table and a living area with a 55" TV. Cable services as well as a DVD and Blueray player are provided along with high speed internet access. A game table with board games for both children and adults are also provided for family fun. In the Blue Dolphin room there is a 43" TV, also with cable.
The large screened in porch with charcoal grill, table for six provides an excellent area to grill out and enjoy the outdoors. The large fully enclosed outdoor hot and cold shower provides our guests with the opportunity to rinse off the sand and salt water from a day at the beach, which is a short three minute walk.

For babies and toddlers a pack-n-play, high chair and beach stroller are provided.

Donna and Tom have made every effort to make their guests feel at home and to make themselves available for any needs that may arise. The home is situated within walking distance of a lovely beach and the ocean. Our family loved every day we were there. Donna was also quite open to any recommendations that we made. Very Affordable!

Our stay was great & I would absolutely recommend Olde Blue. Beach access is an easy walk, and sound access an easy drive. The home was tidy and comfortable, and the price was by far the most affordable we could find. However, while there are beds for up to 12 people, the restroom facilities are not adequate for that number of guests, unless a good # of them are infants or very young children. Inside, there is just one full bathroom. The second inside "bathroom" has a toilet & sink only, with jack-and-jill access between two bedrooms, each sleeping just two people, and NO direct access to the hall. When the couples occupying those two rooms were in their rooms, no one else had access to that toilet, leaving the other 8 of us to share the full-fathroom toilet, which was doubly complicated if someone happened to be showering. That said, we were a part of a larger family reunion, with other families renting a total of three other, nearby homes. The price they paid averaged literally three times more per person than what we paid, so I still count our stay as very much worth the savings. Not everyone in our party agreed, however, so consider carefully the number, ages, and flexibility of your group before booking. I would definitely rent Olde Blue again, but with a smaller group of people. And I also want to acknowledge Donna, who was helpful and generous in working out some details with us. She was easy to communicate with and very responsive to questions.

Outer Banks Vacation

We chose to stay here based on the proximity to the ocean and that the home was all one level which is much better for our children one of whom has Cerebral Palsy and can’t climb many steps. Everything worked out great for our needs and I especially liked the outdoor shower area and screen porch. For the beach - it’s a quick walk to the beach but due to my daughters mobility issues the dunes were tough to traverse so we found two handicap accessible public access boardwalk 3-5 miles down the road that were awesome. Definitely would stay again!

Charming Beach Rental

Olde Blue is filled with beach charm, and the owners were excellent t to work with. The dolphin room sleeps a lot of people! Beach is a short walk, kitchen is well-stocked, and a lot of conveniences in the immediate vicinity. Can’t wait to return to this place in the future!

Fantastic vacation

Olde Blue was an amazing and ideal spot for our family. Plenty of room, great location. Donna was so helpful and caring throughout the whole booking process as well as very accommodating. We haven’t had a real vacation in a long time. This was a much needed family vacation. The weather was also beautiful our entire stay. Can’t wait to book again for next year. This will definitely be our choice of homes.

Wonderful Time!

We had a wonderful time on our vacation. We enjoyed the house, and the outdoor shower was awesome. A little walk to the beach, but not bad at all. We loved the screened in porch and sat out there most of the time when not at the beach. I would definitely recommend.

Amazing stay at the Olde Blue!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Olde Blue (Aug 15-22). We got rained out the night we got there and the next day, but we got lucky with great weather the rest of the week! The house was very clean, and the bedding was very comfortable and clean. The inside of the house looked prettier in person than in the pictures.The layout of the house is wonderful, with the nice open living, dining and kitchen space. So even though Olde Blue might not be the largest of homes, we could not have asked for a more spacious and comfortable home given the layout and number of bedrooms! We were a total of 4 adults, 5 children, and our sweet dog. The 5 kids slept in the Dolphin room, which is the biggest with 2 queen beds plus 2 twin bunk beds. The children loved the bunk beds and watching shows on the TV in the Dolphin room at the end of their beach days! The adults spread out amongst the 3 other rooms. The kitchen was very well stocked on pots, pans, utensils etc. There were also extra dog bowls available in the house. We really enjoyed having our morning tea/coffee on the screened in porch, and loved sitting out on the deck. The outhouse shower was a life saver! It has a strong shower head and hot water. We used it a lot more than the inside shower especially after returning back from the beach to wash off all the sand. We crated our dog comfortably in the house while we were at the beach, and when we were home, she had plenty of space to run around in the large yard (unfenced - so you'll need to keep an eye on your dog as Park Rd can get busy). We had brought our own Dog crate, but I noticed that there was an extra crate available in one of the closets. The walk to the beach is an actual 3 minutes. (So you'll be touching waves within 3 mins). The other families at the beach were all vacationing the same week as us, and our dog socialized with the other dogs. There was plenty of space on the beach to spread out from other families. We ordered take out from Lisa'sPizza, Waves Deli, Waterman's Grill, Sheila's Kitchen, Alex's Shack, and Blue Whale. We also did a bonfire right on the beachone night (can be purchased with a permit from the Blue Whale).Also - try Kayaking on the Sound side. It is a lot of fun (Hatteras Water Sports Rentals in 2 mins from the house). Donna was absolutely wonderful to communicate with. I felt like we knew each other even though we had never met. She answered questions very promptly and sent clear instructions on closing procedures. Over

Great stay!

This is our first time in the Outer Banks. I am sure we did not get the full experience during this pandemic, so we will have to come back again :). We came down with the understanding that we will be isolating ourselves as much as possible and this was a fantastic place for relaxing quietly. We only got take out 3 times, but all three were great (Lisa’s pizza, burritos from the waves store, and seafood from Surf’s Up Seafood store). The rest of the time, we cooked at the house and it was great how many pots/pans/spices were stocked at the house. It felt like home for ease of cooking. There were 5 of us and the house had tons of room to spread out. There was a lot more sleeping space than we needed and the kids ended up each taking their own bedroom to sleep in, so there was zero fighting about who got to sleep where. It apparently rained a lot the week before we came, so mosquitoes were insane. Luckily, the Food Lion in Avon had dog safe bug spray (Maggie’s Farm) because our short haired dog looked like he went a few rounds in the boxing ring after the evening walk and needed Benadryl cream for itching. We sprayed him down with the safe bug spray after that and he was fine on the walks. The other dog has a double coat and was not bothered at all. We found the Salvo Day Use Area less than a mile away down the road on one of the dog walks and that beach is amazing! We came back for about half our beach time. The water is super warm, only about knee deep for miles, has little fish and is pretty clear. We stopped at wings and got stuff to float on, brought our snorkeling stuff and had a blast. We even found a bunch of large clams one day. On days when the kids wanted the true ocean experience, the regular beach is 3 minutes away walking as well. Those waves were rough and we all got wiped out a few times. Still lots of fun. The Salvo Day Use Area has bathrooms and outdoor rinsing showers (both tall and knee high), so we did not bring back sand. Even the dogs loves to wade around there and i was able to rinse them off before heading back. For regular beach days, the outdoor shower at the house was awesome for washing off the sand and not bringing it into the house. I was impressed how well we were able to social distance away from others at both beaches. The beaches were not packed, we stayed 6/27- 7/3. I highly recommend! The hosts are very nice too! We would definitely come back!

Family time

Even know it rained our whole trip we still had an amazing time! Thank you for letting us check in early and thank you for all your help! The house was perfect for us and the littles loved the bunk beds and the covered porch. The house was clean and welcoming and the walk to the beach was a short walk. The kids loved to rain puddles on the road to the beach. Oh and thank you for your help with recooperation.

Olde Blue review

Our stay here was great, the house was in a good spot for the beach and the yard was a nice size for backyard games. The single story setup was nice for the kids and our 12yr old Lab. We had eleven people in our group and with the open concept and layout, it never seemed cramped. The breeze kept the place very comfortable (for May). Donna was very accommodating with all aspects of our stay.
