Red Dog Retreat is located in a quiet wooded oasis 2.5 miles directly up the hill from downtown Broad St.
Only a 7 minute easy drive to Historic Downtown Nevada City and 15 minutes to the Yuba River.
Walking and biking trails are steps away from our property and we are a short drive to Scott's Flat Reservoir.
Bring your bikes, boats and kayaks!
Grill and sit around the fire pit on our wrap around deck.
I love my peaceful home and look forward to sharing my quiet oasis with guests from all backgrounds.
I live part time in the studio that is attached to the garage. Guests may see me occasionally in the long driveway when I take my dog out for a walk. If you do see me while you are here, feel free to say hello or ask me for whatever you might need, otherwise, I will completely respect your privacy.

Perfect in every way

Couldn't have asked for me - a beautiful and beautifully appointed house that felt like home. Wonderful location for exploring Nevada City and neighboring Grass Valley. Communication with owner was great and we couldn't have asked for more.

Cutest place in Nevada City

This home is such a peaceful, quiet, and comfortable place to stay. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Linda and Jody are hospitable and accommodating. Whenever I’m in the area, this is the only place I want to stay.

Best Stay Ever!

100% love the house, so nice and cozy. The owners were so thoughtful and there's everything you could think of in the house. We haver rented many places sot this is literally the best place I have ever stayed! My husband has friends in the area and we visit this area once in a while, we will definitely be back!!

Great stay in Nevada City

We very much enjoyed our brief stay at this house. It is beautifully decorated and well-appointed. The owners take great care in ensuring that a guest feels welcome and comfortable- everything from a tasty beverages to natural mosquito repellent to lush linens. Our summer stay was toasty and but multiple fans kept the house cool. We hope to have the opportunity to stay here in the future.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Red Dog Retreat. Truly a lovely home with all the comfort you could ask for. Place was very clean, we'll stocked and very nicely decorated. Plus, Linda and Jody are very responsive and helpful! Would highly recommend Red Dog Retreat to anyone!

Lovely house on a beautiful property

Linda and Jody were excellent hosts, checking in via text to see that everything worked well, and leaving snacks, a bottle of wine, and breakfast items. The house is gorgeous; we especially appreciated the full wall of windows overlooking all the big trees on the property. There’s also a large deck and a backyard for hanging out outside.

Lovely hangout close to Yuba river

We've had a lovely stay at this beautiful home near NC and Yuba river. We enjoyed hanging out at the house and loved to sip our coffee at the porch in the morning. We've spend most of our time at the Yuba river and loved every minute of it. The house was well stocked, clean and homey. The host was very attentive and fast to reply. We would definitely come back.

Luxury a short driving distance from town

The house was beautifully decorated and very comfortable! The large windows brought in great light and a view of the outdoors. Only disappointment was the posting showed a yard with a ping pong table but there wasn’t one and the yard was really unusable. Would definitely go back and refer to friends and family!

Great Place!

We are a family of five and very much enjoyed our stay here for a 4day weekend. The home was clean and very nice. The yard is spacious and there is a grill, however, due to the cold weather we didn’t use it. We drove to Johnson Canyon to take our children to the snow, and that was only a 45min drive. We were surprised to see how cute and developed Nevada City and Grass Valley are. Our children very much enjoyed the Empire Mine museum.

Beautiful home

This house shows so much thoughtfulness from its owners--modern yet cozy decorating, great array of condiments and basic cooking ingredients, a bottle of wine and some snacks left for us, responsive communication with Linda, easy to follow directions to the best river swimming holes on the planet! The pictures included with the profile are accurate--such great windows. The house is set back from the road and quite private. I look forward to returning!

Lovely cabin in the redwoods

If you're looking for a relaxing and away-from-it-all experience, this is hard to beat. Modern, clean, light, open and very comfortable. A large deck (with grill and fire-pit) that allows you to feel you're in the trees. Feel the commute stress melt away. A network of walking paths are across the street you'll like to hike nearby, but there are some longer and truly stunning walks by and above the Yuba river not far away. A warm recreational lake is also a short drive. Another short drive takes you into Nevada City for great restaurants and shops. I can't recommend this house enough.

Great house with everything you need

Our stay at Red Dog Retreat was great. The location is just outside of town, a quick 5 min drive. 15-20 min drives to multiple swimming holes on the Yuba River, and tucked neatly in the forest off of the main drive. It feels like you're in a cabin in the woods, but you're really in a neighborhood with lots of homes. Nice fire pit outside for the evenings, and a really open layout inside create lots of space to hang out, relax, read, or whatever it is you do. Everything was pretty straightforward in terms of how to use the space. There was no need for questions back to the hosts. Highly recommend if you want to check out the river!

Beautiful Zen home amplified our trip to California!

I selected the location based off proximity of family and it turned out to be so much more. Love the area of Nevada City whether it’s the Empire gold mine, wineries, or downtime shops it was beautiful. But the property was even more amazing, whether it was the thoughtful touches Linda and Jody did that made us feel welcome or the relaxing decor I can't say enough. The outdoor fire pit was wonderful on a cool evening. The beautiful kitchen and eating area allowed us to reconnect with family over home cook meals and fun board game. The house is centrally located allowing us to go to Lake Tahoe or Sacramento in a reasonable time. When I return to the area, I would not hesitate to stay at Linda and Jody’s beautiful relaxing home! Thank you so much.

Well Appointed, Very Comfortable!

My husband, sister, brother-in-law, and I stayed at the Red Dog Retreat for a wedding at nearby Scotts Flat Lake. We found the house to be well appointed, and there were so many nice touches added! From the comfortable, eclectic decor to the wine left for the group to the assortment of things in the refrigerator, it is clear that Linda and Jody are hosts with the most. Linda was also incredibly responsive via text message, which really make you feel like if something had gone wrong, she would have been right there! A quick note (that doesn't deter from the 5 star rating) is that there is no air conditioner in this property (and this is indicated in the property details), so beware if you are coming in the hotter months. Linda and Jody have fans in each of the rooms to help with ventilation, but it did get a little toasty in there! If you were visiting in Spring, Fall, or Winter, this likely wouldn't be an issue AND you'd get to use the darling fireplace! Thanks Linda and Jody for a great stay. If another cousin is married on Scotts Flat Lake, we know where we hope to stay!

Amazing tranquil get away retreat

We just had the pleasure to stay at the Red Dog Retreat for 5 nights. The property was very comfortable, very clean and very quiet. The beds slept well and warm as the evenings are starting to get cold. This special home had everything we needed for a fabulous experience. We highly recommend this home.

Peace and serenity

This was absolutely perfect surroundings. Both outdoor and all the special touches indoor. I was able to relax in between our busy wedding schedule. Everything was so comfortable and location perfect.

Why they chose this property

Nevada City is one of the most beautiful and historically interesting cities in California. There are plenty of amazing restaurants, bars and breweries, and grocery stores for such a quaint town. The Victorian Christmas is a must! Tahoe is an hour drive. And perhaps the biggest draw is the pristine Yuba River!

What makes this property unique

Located close to town, but far enough away to be quiet and restful. Most everyone comments on how peaceful it is to sit inside or on the deck overlooking the trees. The beds are high end and super comfy, and the decor is thoughtful and modern, while still feeling cozy. I also provide an extremely well stocked kitchen.
