About this property

Cottage with Private Beach! Views of Lake, Mountains and Sunset! Near Acadia NP!

The best of Maine’s historic shore and woodland cabins! Near Acadia National Park!

*** Please make initial inquiry to Owner prior to booking***

The fully maintained and renovated Cottage is perched just above the shore line and has extensive beach, water and mountain views from many large windows. The cottage is just a few steps from a 250 yard long private property beach with fresh clear spring fed water lake and gradual sandy bottom swimming.

The cottage has the possibility to also have an "add on" nearby one-room cabin made available. This cabin is separate, with private bathroom, outdoor shower, grill, basic cooking, coffee, fridge, deck, and a queen bunkbed. Please inquiry if interested. Owner can add it onto this rental prior to booking via VRBO.

My Maine property is a private 300-acre peninsula with a mile-long private gated driveway through some of Maine's last stand of old growth Hemlocks that then splits off to each of 4 private cabins. I have been renting three of the cabins to vetted families and couples since 1997 through online services such as VRBO. Each rental has privacy, separate parking, natural and unobstructed views of the lake, beach and mountains. Our completely private 250 yard long beach is the center piece. The Boathouse (google “VRBO 4017223ha”) and Three Bears Cottage (google “VRBO 102873ha”) are located on the south end of the beach and are separated by 25 yards. The Shadow Cabin (Google “VRBO 102874ha”) and the other cabin (my private) are located on the north end of the beach and are separated by 50 yards.

The property is large and I limit the number of people on the property at one time so that the general serenity of the property can be fully experienced by all without any worry about noise, beach use, shared amenities, and general privacy. There is a caretaker who will be there on the day of arrival, Wednesday for trash and assistance, and is on call for emergencies and to maintain the safety, sanitation, and operation of the property for you. The lake and surrounding area have abundant loons and their haunting calls can be heard day and night. They are a daily visitor to our private cove along with duck families, turtles, and bald eagles. The lake is superb for swimming and is completely spring fed so the water is crystal clear, fresh, and enjoyable. The water temperatures are very comfortable during the summer months and can be enjoyed for hours. Our large private beach offers a soft, clean (non-muck), sandy, gradual entrance into the water. We have a wooden floating raft that is perfect to fish from, swim or paddle to and from, as well as relax on while watching the schools of fish swim by. Our property is surrounded by a State of Maine land reserve (Donnell Pond Unit) that is an extension of Acadia National Park. There is fantastic hiking and exploring all within just a few minutes’ drive or locally a short walk or paddle, all of which has views over thousands of acres of protected land, Acadia National Park, seacoast, islands, lakes, mountains, and our property. We offer for our guests 5 one-man kayaks, 1 two-man kayak, 3 paddle boards, 5 kid kayaks, and a canoe to explore the lake, its remote beaches, the outlets, beaver dams, eagle nests, and fishing. The lake is 75% undeveloped/State owned so you can enjoy the completely secluded natural beaches and shores without worry. The entire property is in its natural state and could be physically challenging.

We do allow for an authorized dog(s) with the understanding that it is not allowed onto furniture, be destructive to the property, be overly bothersome, or be left unattended without being properly secured or crated. It is, however, a fantastic place for a dog especially for one that loves the water, beach, woods, hiking, and general free play. There is a $100 per dog fee. There will be other dogs on the property. Most return every year and are known and have been respectful. Please understand that dogs are often playing on the beach off-leash.

If you want to get away this place is it. Beautiful cabin by the lake. We loved the seclusion and quietness of it all. There was a sense of serenity, peace, and quiet. Loved the esthetic of the cabin with all it New England charm.

Magically peaceful!
My husband and I had an incredible experience staying at this special cottage. We didn’t expect it to be one of the most memorable parts of our trip. The location and set up provided a peaceful oasis after long days exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor. The cottage met all of our needs to include providing a perfect haven for our dogs. We loved the accommodations, the location and the people. We had very few neighbors and the uniqueness of the place made for pleasant and fun interactions when we did run into each other. Andrew was a great host who gave us a deeper appreciation for the history behind the beauty that surrounded us. We look forward to our future return to this magical place!

My favorite vacation rental ever!
It’s hard to imagine a vacation rental near Acadia Ntl Park that would make you NOT want to go into the park… but this is it. From the private beach, crystal clear lake and cozy cabin, you won’t want to leave. Loved that our fur-baby was welcome, and he had the time of his life running around with new friend Bo! 🐶 Thank you Andrew for allowing us access to such a beautiful, untouched piece of heaven. It’s a rare find.

Mystical forest
Upon arriving we traveled through an almost untouched forest with just enough space for our vehicle. It was a magical moment. We have never felt in the forest more than here. The water and beach were spectacular. Water crystal clear, clean sandy beach, coves of rocks that make you feel so small. Our dogs had a blast and are exhausted from the hiking on the property. We kayaked and ate some great food. Bob the caretaker was a pleasure to talk to and work with. Informational only: There is no TV, washer or dryer. Arrive before dark and follow the instructions from the owner. Print the instructions out because you will loose service closer to the cabin. iPhone texts go through great at the cabin. Wifi is super fast.

Wonderful Visit to Maine
Our 3 night visit to Andrew's cabin on Spring River Lake was great. The house was very clean and situated well on the lake near the beach. The kayaks came in handy and there are some awesome trails close by. It was nice to stay in a remote place before we made our trip into all the hustle - bustle of Bar Harbor.

Remote and Private but Close Enough to Everything
Our stay was wonderful in this very comfortable, well appointed cabin and the clear warm lake and surrounding easy hiking trails. There is so much to see and do that a full week stay is necessary! You can spend days just exploring the lake with the provided canoe and kayaks and just down the road there are a number of hikes that have spectacular views and are much less crowded than AcadiaNP, but that is only a 45 minute drive - so easy to spend a few days exploring there also. We always try to travel with our canine family member - and we all very much appreciated the privacy of the area and the easy access to the lake so she could have her vacation too! The owner and caretaker are very easy to reach and communicate with and are friendly and accommodating. We certainly hope to return again.

Wonderful Getaway
Wonderful vacation for a family who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle. The lake is absolutely stunning-crystal clear, warm, large enough to explore all day in a kayak, but with a large sandy beach where you can spend the day rolling in and out of the water. Our cabin was clean and well appointed. As dog lovers we appreciated that our dog was able to have as great a trip as us! Andrew and family ( including canine member, Bo) were wonderful hosts. An easy drive to Acadia NP/ Bar Harbor, which we did visit, but truth be told we found ourselves longing to be back at the lake. A truly special spot to reconnect, rejuvenate, and enjoy nature. We’ll be back. Also, lots of hammocks!

My family and I had a wonderful week staying here. Place was very clean and had everything you need. Owner was super nice and helpful. Very remote, so note the directions that the owner gives you! About 45 mins to Acadia, which is fabulous to explore. Highly recommend, planning on returning with more family someday!

Quiet and Relaxing!
The stay at this lakefront cabin was just what we needed! It is situated on a beautiful piece of land right on the lake, overlooking the mountains. The only noises we heard were the loon calls (which is our favorite sound!) and a bullfrog from time to time. We spent each day playing in the water, on the beach, fishing and paddling around the lake. Andrew and Bob were both very friendly and accommodating. We can't say enough about what a good time we had...we have all been bumming since we left, wishing we were still there. lol. We can't wait to come back again!

My family and I had a wonderful time at the lake. It was perfect in every way. If you are looking to escape the daily and just be with your loved ones with a book and your thoughts this is it. We enjoyed early morning kayak rides, picnic lunches by the shore, evenings by the fire. My family and I would like to thank the owner and caretaker for their hospitality.

A perfect spot!
My fiancé and I stayed at Andrew’s cabin in preparation for our elopement, he was so accommodating to us having our photographer and other vendor come out to the property and helped us coordinate due to the remote location of the cabin. All of my questions were answered and we felt so lucky to stay at this beautiful place. The cabin had everything we needed, and it was great being able to use the beach chairs, kayaks, canoe and other amenities provided. It is a very peaceful and relaxing spot. Couldn’t have asked for anything better, we hope to one day return!

Best spot ever, especially with dogs!
We loved Andrew's cottages! It was the absolute perfect spot to relax and to use as a base for exploring the area. Though in the end, we spent much more time on the property than we had planned as it was just so lovely! Private beach, beautiful sunsets, and free use of kayaks & paddle boards. Why leave our little cove? The cabin was spacious but cozy, especially at night with a fire going. The dogs especially LOVED the property (Andrew's dog and my dog had a little end-of-summer romance going on). We were quite happy we had brought a good bit of food and drinking water with us so we didn't have to venture out the first or even second day. But Milbridge is only a 20-min drive and has a market with everything you'd need and the local fish market, Chipman's is great--we bought fish to grill (the cabin has a great gas grill), a seafood casserole, lobster & crab dip.... One day we hiked Tunk Mountain (only a 5-10 min drive) and one day we hiked Black Mountain (a bit farther but well worth it for spectacular views of MDI). Both great hikes. We wished we had stayed a whole week. We will definitely be back!!

Best week at the Lake!
My family had the best week at the Lake house! 10 yr old never tired of trying to catch frogs, swimming out to the platform and testing out the SUP. Dogs loved the freedom, swimming for hours and fishing. Grown ups got a lot of floating around the lake and relaxing time. It was a great break for all of us. Owners were very friendly and extremely helpful. Property was very quiet and off the beaten path which was exactly what we needed. Extremely kid and dog friendly! The cabin was the perfect size with a really great master bedroom. We had a lot of aspirations to hit a bunch of the local hiking spots but we ended up spending most of our time at the lake just soaking it in. This was a trip that made everyone happy!

Wow
Our family vacation at Spring River Lake has set a high bar for every vacation that will follow. The remote and simple cabin alongside an idyllic Maine background was just perfect. Our intentions were to head into Acadia NP and Bar Harbor 2-3 days but found ourselves longing for the more peaceful yet still beautiful local trails near the cabin and finishing off the day lakeside while exploring the lake itself and all its beauty. Andrew and his family are more than welcoming along with the “repeat vacationers” in the other cabins who became fast friends. Without a TV in the cabin, no cell service, and very little WiFi signal, it was EXACTLY what our family needed to “get away”. Our kids (ages 8,10 and 11) along with our dog were beyond happy, spending our days exploring the lake, catching frogs, kayaking, paddle boarding, and hiking. It really was a dream vacation. Thank you Andrew for sharing your piece of heaven with us!

Awesome relaxation!
This property is absolutely amazing! Beautiful setting on the shore of Spring River Lake. The house faces to the west, so you get some wonderful sunsets over the lake and hills in the background. Everything was exactly as advertised. Many guests who signed the guest log book returned to this cabin year after year after year! It was the most relaxing vacation our family has ever had.

About the host

The property and the surrounding area are very dear to me. We donated thousands of acres to the State of Maine for a Maine State Land Reserve which is now enjoyed and respected by enthusiastic visitors. We work hard to keep our remaining private peninsula pristine and in complete respect to the natural beauty of the area. I grew up in the Bangor and Downeast area and have a strong connection to the Acadia region. We have two other rentals on the same 300 acres; (gogle: "VRBO 102873ha", "VRBO 102874ha", and "VRBO 4017223ha" ). There is plenty of privacy. We have been renting and maintaining this beautiful property for 30+ years. Please feel free to look at our rentals and view our instagram (at MaineCabinRentals) or Youtube (at mainebestcabins774) for a feel of the property experience. **Please inquire to Owner first prior to booking. Thank you.

Why they chose this property

In 1994 we gifted 7500 acres of the property to the State of Maine for a preserved land reserve. We kept the 300 acre peninsula where now three rental cabins are located. The surrounding area is an undiscovered wilderness. The hiking is incredible with tremendous views of Downeast Maine and Acadia National Park. There are many remote lakes and ponds snuggled in the hills that provide total privacy. In addition, Acadia National Park is only a short drive away and can easily be visited for a day or afternoon. Our lake and the other surrounding lakes, ponds, and mountains are minimally developed if developed at all. Directly in front of the cottage is a 1000-foot soft sandy beach with beautiful swimming. Additionally our peninsula has several private beaches within a couple minutes walking distance or short kayak paddle. There is a mile long gated private driveway, allowing for considerable privacy. The large private property has VRBO listings (gogle: "VRBO 102873ha", "VRBO 102874ha", and "VRBO 4017223ha" ). Two proximal reserves have been designated here: 1,940 acres east of Donnell Pond and 4,274 acres northeast of our lake. The mountains and lakes formed by the Tunk Mountain Pluton constitute one of the most distinctive landmarks of the East Coastal Region. The two reserves include mid-elevation (~1,200 foot) summits of Tunk Mountain, Black Mountain, and Caribou Mountain as well as Tilden Pond, and Little Long Pond. Web site: https://apps.web.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/doc/parksearch/details.pl?park_id=48

What makes this property unique

The State’s best private beach, cleanest water and swimming. Fantastic views and sunsets, well maintained cottage with proximity to the Maine coast and easy access to Acadia National Park. A perfect romantic get-a-way or a memorable family Maine woods, lake and coastal experience!
