The Lighthouse invites you to the perfect Cortes Island get-away for larger groups and families wishing to holiday together. This beautiful, southwest-facing, 4500 square foot country home offers spectacular 180-degree views of the Georgia Strait and the ranges of Vancouver Island.

Situated on 2.2 acres overlooking Smelt Bay, the house comes complete with a heated 18' x 35' swimming pool. The decks and patios leading from every door are safe-guarded for the protection of small children.

Relax around the pool or pick sand dollars, dig clams, gather oysters, go fishing, or just sunbathe on the beautiful white sandy beaches of Smelt Bay and Hague Lake. The area is known for its magnificent sunsets. The front of the house has a spacious courtyard with kiwi trees, hanging wisteria vines, and a fountain - a great shaded dining area when the sun is at its peak. The spacious half acre lawn features croquet and badminton, and lots of room to play frisbee, soccer, or just have a picnic.

We are within walking distance (or a two minute drive) to 'Hollyhock', Canada's premier campus for personal growth workshops and societal well-being. Nearby, Misty Isles Adventures offers sailing and kayak tours.

A total gem!

Our large group of 19 was welcomed and hosted so well! Tony and his family were responsive when we needed something and his kiddos were so lovely - our kids loved playing with them. The home was very large and fit our family so well. We had everything we needed and more. The pool was a blast a dn well supplied. Any group would be lucky to have stay here!

This was a great large property for a family group. Lots of space and the pool is a great bonus. Enjoyed our stay so much that we are planning a repeat visit. Host Tony was easy to deal with.

Great property for family vacation

Great property for large family gatherings. Beautiful view, spacious well stocked home. Outdoor games and pool were a highlight with the kids. Host Tony was friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay and will return.

Spacious house on beautiful Cortes

This was our second time staying and we plan to return. 3 families fit comfortably. It's a large older house with some upgrades to make vacationing fun.

Amazing Property

We all had a great time re-uniting with our families for some time to relax, play and explore. We couldn't have been happier with the accommodations which surprisingly fit 4 families easily. Even enough yard space for a baseball game. Loved it and our hosts which are nearby for anything you may want or need.

Mandons landing on Cortes is fabulous!!

We actually stayed twice, once with family and another time with friends. It was incredible both times!! There was a crazy lightning storm one night and we just happened to catch some cool footage that made on the local news too. Would come here again in a heartbeat!!

Great place to stay for an island getaway

This house is set up perfectly for multiple families to gather. The kitchen is huge and has all the appliances (the fancy coffee maker was a hit)! The kids loved the pool and games, and I came with a 9 month old and this place was very well baby proofed. Overall we all loved our stay, and already are dreaming of when we can come back again. Thanks for having us again Tony!

Just like home

This was the most amazing property. This was our 32nd year for our family reunion. The group has traditionally been quite large with myself and three sisters, our children and significant others. This property immediately felt like home to us. It was so well set up for everything. We always bring extra bedding, utensils, pots, pans etc but we had no need to do that here. The house had a large open concept area for dining, living and kitchen but then the bedrooms were far enough apart (and in abundance) that everyone had suitable privacy. The pool table, piano and inground swimming pool were well utilized as well. Our hosts were amazing and very accommodating. I would definitely recommend this rental property and Cortes Island as a vacation destination.

Home away from home

We have been coming to this property for the past five summers and it is perfect for our four families. Our children have great memories of their summer vacation on Cortes. Tony and his family are excellent hosts and have always been attentive any time we have needed anything or made any requests for our future stays. The house needs some work but every year we notice some upgrades. We are booked for the next two summers already! Looking forward to returning to our home away from home.....

Great trip!

Home and property are large. Dated as per previous posts - found it had a rustic cabin feel. Amenities, pool and view were outstanding. Place is pretty stuffy in the summer heat. Though there are small fans in the bedrooms, I’d recommend bringing extra, or having doors open as it heats up quick.

Summer Bliss!

Our family of 4 and another family stayed here and had a wonderful time! It is relaxing and fun for everyone. The pool, and all the activity options, proximity to the ocean and short drive to the lake are lovely. Evening sunsets were beautiful, we could watch the hummingbirds feed from our deck chairs. There are several dining areas to choose from and we found our favourites various times in the day. The hosts went above and beyond to keep things in good shape and help us out when we needed it. Highly recommend this place.

Another memorable stay on Cortes

This was our 2nd time at the property, so suffice it to say, we were already fans. The house is very spacious, we were 8 adults and 5 kids and had room to spare. The pool was excellent and the kitchen well stocked with an espresso machine with a grinder. A second fridge/freezer in the garage was convenient for our large group. We had a couple issues arise and the owner was on them immediately. Communication was fantastic and everyone we dealt with was very friendly. Side note - keep your eyes peeled on the ferry, we were given quite a show by 2 humpback whales on the way home.

"The Lighthouse” is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a luxurious property!

We booked The Lighthouse from 29 July 18 for one week for a reunion of 4 families comprising of 9 adults and six teenagers.With a large party in mind, the number of bedrooms and bathrooms was of particular importance when making our choice of property. The VRBO details describe the property as having 4 bathrooms, however, the fourth bathroom/shower room was being used as a cleaning/storage area by the owners and the shower could not be accessed.The upstairs bedroom intended for 3 guests was also unusable as it was airless and extremely hot. Three teenagers, who should have slept in the space, had to sleep on the floor next to the pool table.All the fitments/furniture in the property are tired and worn.All of the seats in the dining area were heavily worn and had split open. A considerable numbers of the kitchen floor tiles were either broken, loose or cracked such that one of the children cut their toe walking barefoot. The old kitchen fridge tray overflowed onto the floor soon after our arrival. There was only one electric fan for the entire property and with temperatures in the high 20c’s and low 30c’s our request for further fans was met with no response.The owners were away on holiday for the week we occupied the property leaving their young son to deal with the treatment of the swimming pool. The young boy had to face-time the owner for instructions as we queried the chemicals he was about to add to the pool without testing the water first. Had he done so the pool could have been left unusable.Although we were given a telephone number for the owner’s young daughter, she was not able to deal with general maintenance such as the blocked sink on our arrival. This had to be dealt with by one of the guests.The towel rails in both of the downstairs bathrooms were so loose that they continually fell off the wall.The blinds in the downstairs bedrooms were broken and unusable and half the slats were missing in our bedroom.Although the owners had stated there would be a plentiful supply of towels supplied for the bathrooms and pool, there were only 12 towels supplied for 15 people.There was no information regarding use of the kitchen equipment or things like grocery stores, local markets, Dr's, places to visit,etc. The reality is that this property badly needs updating. Any discerning adult booking this property after reading the misleading description and the ‘glowing reviews’ would be disappointed to say the least. Photos have been supplied to VBRO

Family Time

Overall we had a lovely family vacation. The property needs a little TLC. but adequate for a summer rental. Tony was a lovely host and very responsive to our questions. We do have a suggestion that they consider using unscented detergents . Thank you for allowing us to gather our whole family and make beautiful memories after a long COVID separation !

Great house, perfect for a big group

We had such a wonderful experience renting out this property and were quite surprised at how well it facilitated a large group gathering. The location was absolutely perfect with a gorgeous view of Smelt Bay. We appreciated knowing Tony and Monika were available however, they gave us privacy and let us know if they would be stopping by.

A piece of paradise

We had the most wonderful family vacation, the house is exactly as described and the pool is even better!!! There was 8 adults and 5 kids ( ages 2-8) and everyone felt like they had enough space and beds! The property itself is beautifully landscaped with lots of grassy area for the kids to run. We cannot wait to return!

Heat dome holiday

We arrived on a Saturday and checked out on a Sunday. Covid restrictions had made payment schedule tricky but Tony was great to deal with and gave us flexibility when we weren’t sure Dr. Henry would allow travel. Check in was smooth and easy. Lots of room to unpack food and drinks for 8 nights and space to store our bikes in the garage. The heat dome made the loft too hot to sleep but we were able to rearrange sleeping quite comfortably. The pool is where we spent all our time and the kids also enjoyed the pool/ping pong table and tv downstairs. We put a sheet over the back fence and watched movies outdoors too. The kitchen looked small in the photos but we had lots of room for 7 adults and 7 kids. We are one meal at the big table which could accommodate 16 I’m sure. Cards were played at high top in kitchen and there were also two deck tables. A great holiday with a great host.
