About this property
5 Bed Historical Farmhouse in Villedieu Les-Poeles (home of racehorse ‘Ozo')
'Maison d’Ozo' offers an exceptional home away from home. It is a seven bed roomed, three stories over cave, house. It is situated opposite the train station (to Paris). It is less than a five minute walk to the centre of town.
The space
'Maison d’Ozo' has 5 bed rooms, 4 of those rooms ensuite: one twin bed, one three bed and three doubles, of which one double opposite the large artdeco bathroom. The kitchen has all utensils, crockery and cutlery. It also has a fridge, dishwasher, gas hob and oven.
There is a basement cave which houses the washing machine, barbecue equipment and garden furniture.
The guests need to purchase the gas for the barbecue.
Guest access
The owner has limited the number of guests for the price quoted to 6 persons with a supplementary cost for 2 no. additional guests (maximum 8 persons).
The guests have access to the whole of the main house except for three bedrooms on the first floor which is closed off. They have access to gardens but not to the stables, tennis court, fish pond and outhouse buildings.
The kitchen has an antique Rosario AGA solid fuel cooker which is decommissioned over the summer months. The house is heated from central heated oil boiler and is decommissioned over the summer months. However the guests have access to the wood burning stove in the main sitting room and need to purchase their own fuel for same.
Interaction with guests
Pop down to the Pottery Shop where Issan and Francoise make fabulous dinner/tea services and special commissions. Bring home a real souvenir! They know everything about Les Lauriers. I will be present to welcome and see you off on the Saturday to Saturday.
( reduced price reflects minor decoration painting etc needed and taking place in next couple months)

Down to earth and easy to deal with
Why they chose this property
This property has a lot of history. France's most famous horse 'Ozo' was rared and stabbled here, following its pre-mature death, its heart is buried in the garden
Ozo ( 1958 - 1966 ) is a mare specialist trotter mounted and harnessed, native to the English Channel .
She was born in 1958 , at Jules Vautier (breeder). Race horse with exceptional destiny, this mare, of brown bay dress (or black pangare, say the specialists), knows a not very promising beginnings. His odd way of running, tail in a plume in the wind, and his rather unpredictable character, make Ozo an animal difficult to contain. Its owner, coach and driver, Roger Massue , of Villedieu-les-Poêles , had all the trouble in the world to channel it. When he got there, the mare showed great gaits and an exceptional pace both at the trot and the trot. She was easily recognized by her white bandages placed on her anterior.
Among his greatest victories, we will remember the 1963 American awards (No. 15, driver: Roger Massue) and 1965 (No. 18, driver: Jan Frömming).
An anecdote says a lot about the character of the mare. While traveling by plane to the United States, where Ozo won two major races, the mare began to hit the cabin violently. It is said that the pilot, exhausted and fearful for the aircraft, had the idea of having the animal shot down during the flight. Fortunately, everything went back to normal and Ozo conquered America ...
Still very young, and promised new victories, the mare died in 1966 at only eight years of a tumor in the womb.
