Fantastic stay in the villa
The design of the house is just amazing, the staff was super nice and on top of everything! My husband broke his collarbone and the intendant of the villa stayed with us at the hospital to facilitate everything. The cook team was great. The villa is a minute away from the beach. To be fair, the villa is not brand new and the climate does not help but honestly we were 7 people and loved our stay there.

Pleasant stay
Positives : the property is spacious and the view is incredible. House manager, Tharanga and his team of staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The food cooked at the Villa was really delicious. We also found the beds very comfortable and all slept very well. Cons : overall the Villa really needs some TLC. It is very run down in areas and generally felt dusty. There were stains all over the furniture and the bathrooms were full of mould. The lampshades in one of the bedrooms was so full of mould and rust that I had to ask the staff to change them. The shower in our room was full of cockroaches on day 2. Thankfully Tharanga treated the area and they went away but it was not pleasant! The TV room isn’t cosy at all as the sofas are just outside furniture. I feel like this space could be really homely but it feels unfinished and out of date. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but we probably wouldn’t return to this villa despite the fantastic staff and food.

Traumhafter Urlaub
Alles lief perfekt uns fehlte an nichts. Wir können die Villa nur weiterempfehlen!

Impeccable Villa and the staff and hospitality were top notch
We had a wonderful time celebrating our college friends 20th year reunion. All the reviews are applicable but surprisingly no one talked about the food the chef in the villla prepped for us. It was some of the best meals of our lives. The location is perfect, close to all the action in the beach are. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. We were a very picky bunch and they catered to each and every of our requests with a smiling face. We will definitely return if our travels bring us back. The villa itself is stunning. The architecture, room layout, comfort, everything. Even if i try to think of something to complain about I really can’t think of anything. Kudos to the staff, make sure u look after them. They deserve every bit of recognition! Thank you!!

Stunning Villa in a breathtaking location.
Nisala Villa is such a well designed villa in an amazing location. There are so many well considered design features that make the villa work so well for our two families (9 people in total). There were enough private spaces so anyone could escape the ‘crowd’ when they needed to, but the communal spaces were the best! Several indoor and outdoor spaces designed for dining, relaxed drinking, sunbathing, watching movies / football etc. We found ourselves moving from one space to another depending on the time of day, size of group and activity. Professional and friendly staff were on hand at all times, but they were very discrete. Food at Nisala was amazing - we had poolside bbq one evening, traditional rice and curry another. We had some fussy eaters with us but the staff at the villa managed to cater for everyone. On top of all of this the villa is only a short tukuk ride away from Mirissa beach - our favourite place in the whole world I think! Our holiday was so relaxing and we have some very happy memories. Thankyou Shehan and your team at Nisala.

April 2019
We had a fantastic week at Villa Nisala. We were a group of 4 adults and 6 children and the separate villas somewhat interconnected worked well for us. The kids absolutely loved the pool, the local beach was lovely and while the water is a bit rougher it is lovely for sitting and enjoying the view. The staff at the villa were fantastic and could not have been more helpful with food service (always delicious and they were more than happy to accommodate adult and kid preferences), arranging transport to places and even letting us know when a monkey was in the trees nearby so the kids got to see it - a highlight ! Day trip wise we did trips to mirissa beach, the elephant safari and Galle and enjoyed them all. Some of our party also visited the tea plantation and turtle sanctuary which were also great. Would highly recommend Villa Nisala.

Stunning villa with exceptional staff
I cannot say enough about this breathtaking villa, staff who treat you like royalty and feel like family, delicious food - high praise from our 16 year old son who would order pizza if given the chance...he loved the fish, salads, and vegetables prepared by Ramya, and of course the beautiful setting on the beach. I initially reached out to Jill by email and she always responded immediately with great suggestions and assistance with transportation, etc. Tharanga is the property manager who handles everything effortlessly - much love to him and his family as his wife was giving birth to their son the day after our departure. Isura, Dharshani, and Channa all worked tirelessly to make sure the property always looked meticulous. We can’t wait to return!

Beautiful villa and location, wonderful staff
We have just returned from a week at Nisala Villa and had a wonderful time. The villa itself is spacious and comfortable, and the team of staff that take care of you ensure that you have the exact holiday that you want, whether this is going out to explore temples and local towns or just hanging out by the pool. Jill was very responsive and helpful during the whole process from inquiry right throughout our stay and we would highly recommend Nisala as a place to stay. Many thanks to the whole team, Catrin & Philip

Stunning place and people
Nisala Villa is absolutly a small paradise by its own. It is hard to say what is the most precious there. The owner is very friendly and helpfull, always ready to answer any questions and help us in reservation process. The Staff – Shehan is the most professional manager I have met. He guesed and made our wishes come true before we even thought about them. We wish to have more time to check how far his limits goes… Kumari hosted us like a mother and unfortunately, we haven’t eaten better until we left Nisala Vila..The Rest of the Staff masters the art of appearing and disappearing In the only right moments. Villa is genius located. Enough far from civilization to feel like In a desert Island and enough close to buy beer and wine for dinner and go surfing. The smart design of the Villa linked Sri Lanka accents and modern influences. Furthermore, arrangement of rooms is very practical. We fall In love with the Villa and we hope we come back some day again. Nisala Villa in perfect style fulfill the mission: “The pleasure of our clients is our priority”.

Simply amazing - you won't want to leave!
It would be hard to top Nisala Villa in Sri Lanka - the villa, setting and view, as well as the staff are all amazing. We had debated whether to stay here or Amanwella, and we could not have been more pleased in selecting Nisala Villa! Jill, the owner in Hong Kong and also the villa architect, was beyond helpful in planning our stay and her local insights were invaluable in finalizing our itinerary. There are 4 villas on the property, with the placement and design ensuring privacy. The villas are located up a private winding road that adjoins private temple lands, beyond a gated entry manned by security. I just can't say enough about the villa itself. It is gorgeous, set up from the beach, overlooking the Indian Ocean. The view, sound of the surf and the ocean breezes soothe the soul. You can easily sleep 8-10 and never feel crowded. Each bedroom has its own bath and the living spaces, including outdoors are luxurious and spacious. It was just my husband and I traveling, and we are already plotting our return with close friends. The staff is top notch. Jerome, the butler provided personalized service and ensured we were welcome and cared for. He confirmed all our local plans the evening before to ensure we were well cared for outside the villa as well. He was assisted by Tharonga who also ensured a fabulous stay, and who provided special touches along the way. We enjoyed the best meals we had in Sri Lanka, courtesy of their fabulous cook Ramya. We had breakfast and dinners at the villa, where all you need to do is put in a menu request, with dinners having a nominal charge. We requested local cuisine and were not disappointed. I would return to Nisala Villa just to shadow Ramya in the kitchen - it was that good! I believe the housekeeper, Dharshani, also had a hand in our fine dining, while she also ensured the villa was immaculately kept. Jill offered her car and driver during our stay at only the cost of gas. We have really appreciated Wasantha as a driver and felt safe in his hands amidst the craziness of Sri Lankan roads, from our pick up in Galle to our drop off in Colombo. Wasantha went out of his way on multiple occasions to ensure we were taken care of - even helping us shop for a hopper pan and ingredients. While we were thousands of miles from Seattle, we could not have been made to feel more at home. We stayed 3 nights and only wished we had more time here. Just go - you won't be disappointed and you won't want to leave.

Amazing vacation in Sri Lanka
I and my family have had a wonderful time in Sri Lanka, we have not have enough words to describe this place. We travel 8 adults and 2 kids and everyone has a lifetime of memories, especially the kids who were wonderfully well taken care of by those who worked in the villa We stayed in this top designer villa with breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. On the beach you can see sea turtles and watch local fishermen fishing on the seashore. Jill, Linn, Mr. Shehan and the rest of the staff gave us the best service. Can strongly recommend Villa Nisala to others. Thank you!

Amazing! Incredible!
There are not enough superlatives to describe Villa Nisala! We never ever did expect, that Nisala will be so indescribably beautiful, the pictures can´t even describe. The architecture, the infinity pool, all the details, everything is designed so stylishly and lovingly. The wonderful surrounding and of course the fantastic beach with an awesome view. We are so grateful to everyone, who has made our stay so amazing. Jerome and his team made our stay unforgettable. Never treated with so much hospitality. We are convinced that they could read our minds. Before we could even make a wish, it came true. We will greatly miss the delicious food. We would like to thank Jill for giving us the opportunity to experience all that.

Don't think, just book!
I’m not sure there are enough superlatives to describe this villa or our time there: it is an absolute gem. Design-wise, the overall aesthetic is stunning and feels as though it is from the pages of a glossy magazine. The main entrance to the villa is via stepping-stones over a small fishpond (complete with goldfish and a resident turtle). This leads to a wide stairway, which cascades all the way down to the infinity pool at the ground floor of the villa – and the stunning sea vista. The rest of the villa is equally gorgeous: stylish cement floors, open-air rain showers, a rooftop garden. Someone has clearly taken great care in all the little details too, from a telescope for stargazing on one of the many balconies to the beautiful artwork all over the villa. Every night, we were lulled to the sleep by the sound of the waves in our luxurious beds and were woken up in the morning with fresh, strong coffee and yummy breakfast courtesy of the villa’s cooks. If you get tired of languorous afternoons in and by the infinity pool, there is private access to the quiet beach down a private staircase at the side of the villa. Alternatively, the famous Mirissa Beach stretch is only a 20-minute tuktuk ride away, where we spent an evening enjoying fresh seafood and chilled beers and Galle is an hour's car journey away, where we spent an afternoon exploring the city's fortress walls and little backstreets. What made this stay perfect was the impeccable service provided by Chatura, the villa’s manager, and his team. Attentive without being obtrusive, he catered to our group's every whim. One night he organised a traditional Sri Lankan dance performance in the villa and on one morning, had a man scrambling up the villa’s palm trees to provide us with fresh coconuts and coconut water for breakfast. In short, I don’t think I’ve ever had a more wonderful holiday – it was incredibly hard to leave. We will certainly be back!

Perfect Perfect Perfect!
We stayed as a group of 10 for a friend's 30th birthday weekend and it could not have been more perfect. The design of the villa is beautiful, the entrance over the stepping stones and down the outdoor staircase really makes you feel like you are descending into a tranquil little haven and have escaped from the world for a little while. The bedrooms and bathrooms all had the wow factor, each with their own little bit of private space, be it a courtyard or terrace. In fact there were places all around the villa where you could find yourself a little space to enjoy the scenery and tranquility. There was equally plenty of space for us all to comfortably sit and socialise together, it’s rare that you get the best of both worlds in a holiday rental. The infinity pool with the view out to sea is amazing! Even the floating chairs were the most comfortable I’ve sat on! Sitting in the pool, looking out over the coconut groves at the turtles in the sea, I had one of those moments where you need to pinch yourself to check that it’s actually real. The staff were so welcoming and really couldn't do enough to make sure we were comfortable and enjoyed ourselves as much as possible. Not only were they super efficient whenever we asked for anything, they also anticipated our needs and made some great suggestions. Their finest hour had to be their torchlit bbq complete with entertainment by local dancers, all arranged at only a few hours notice - which was a perfect birthday celebration for our friend. The villa owner even sent a cake and bubbly to add to the celebrations which was such a lovely gesture. Throughout our stay, if we ever wanted to go anywhere, do anything, eat anything, all we had to do was ask and it was taken care of. When we set out one afternoon for a (very long!) walk to Mirissa along the beach, Chatura even gave us a mobile phone to take with us in case we needed him... and called to check that we had arrived safely. I can't express enough how much these guys care that your holiday is as perfect as it can be, yet they manage that perfect balance where the attentiveness doesn’t become intrusive. There just aren't enough superlatives to describe how special this villa and its staff are... In a nutshell, if you want to go away with a large group, worry about nothing, and be looked after by people who genuinely care about your holiday, you really can't go wrong. I left with a lump in my throat... highly recommend!

An idyllic retreat
We celebrated a friend's 30th birthday here on our first visit to Sri Lanka - our stay couldn't have been better. The villa is beautifully designed and the location is stunning, it's an ideal retreat for groups of friends or families. Prepare to feel your jaw drop as you walk down the steps and take in the views. Chathura, the manager, is very warm and welcoming. In fact, the service we got was beyond that of a 5* hotel, with someone always on hand to cater to every whim. His team organised for us a delicious BBQ with a traditional Sri Lankan performance on our first night, which is a must for anyone who visits. The next morning we were treated to freshly chopped coconuts with breakfast. We ate at the villa most of the time and the ladies in the kitchen did a truly brilliant job. Beyond the ocean views and palm trees, the most beautiful aspect of this villa is its sense of community. All the (many) staff who work here take real pride in their job and this is reflected in the high standard of service. You really notice that this isn't just another posh Sri Lankan villa for holidaymakers, it's a home-from-home to all. Will definitely be going back.

Absolutely Amazing!!
Firstly, it somewhat pains me to write this review as I do not want the world knowing about this incredible gem perched on the Sri Lankan Coast, as I know as soon as word spreads, this place is guaranteed to be booked out year round! What can I say - this place is absolutely amazing! The Villa is laid out perfectly for utmost relaxation. The bedrooms are spacious and luxurious, informal living areas (if you do want to spend time inside) are well equipped and the infinity pool looking out to an idyllic vista is beautiful! The manager Chatura and his staff were incredibly welcoming, polite and helpful! Regardless of what time of the day, they always wanted to ensure that everyone was comfortable and all needs were being taken care of. The only downside is that I had to leave! I'm already counting down the days until I can return - and I can only give the highest of recommendations for anyone that is looking for an amazing getaway.

The perfect holiday
On arriving at the villa, all our expectations of its style, size and location were immediately blown out of the water. The approach to the villa is along a dirt track, through a coconut grove and climbs to the top of a hill where the 6 villas are located. Despite being large, angular concrete structures, the villas are softened with reclaimed antique wooden doors and sympathetic planting of native shrubs and trees. The villas further blend into their surroundings with palm trees growing up through holes in decking to minimize their impact on the area. The villa we stayed in (which I understand is similar to all the others) felt like a modern palace. You enter through a large wooden door, hop over stepping stones across a pond containing Koi Carp and then the view hits you; down the steps that lead to the infinity pool with uninterrupted views over the Indian Ocean. The villa is more a boutique hotel than villa with all rooms being self contained suites - with balconies overlooking the sea, private courtyard gardens or large outside showers. The air conditioning and ceiling fans also proved essential in the evening and quietly set the ideal temperature for a good night's sleep. To the side of the villas is a set of steps that lead down the hill to the beach - which for all intents and purposes is private, bar a handful of local children and fishermen who were all incredibly friendly. The sea was warm, crystal clear and the beach was clean with large area of rocks to sit on and gaze out to the ships on the horizon. The service we experienced at the villa from manager Chatura, Taranga, Jerome, Ramia and the rest of the team was exceptional. The villa was kept immaculately clean and tidy, and there was always somebody around to help if you needed to arrange to visit a temple or just wanted a cup of tea. Although the service was so efficient, it was also friendly and casual (regular joking about cricket led to an England v Sri Lanka "Jungle Cricket" match on the track outside the villa - which we lost). The food was exceptional in both quality, quantity and value. Despite planning to eat out regularly, we took most of our meals at the villa opting almost exclusively for Sri Lankan curries - even for breakfast. One evening they organised a BBQ for us on the beach with the steps down lined with coconut oil lamps; an experience that cannot be described by words. Our stay here truly set a new benchmark that I doubt any holiday is likely to exceed.

The villa was designed and constructed by us. We actually designed and constructed six and sold three of the others to family and friends. We are a British couple living in Hong Kong.

Why they chose this property

It was our dream to buy some land , design and construct these villas. My wife Jill is an Architect, I am an electronic engineer and our partner is a Malaysian landscape designer.

What makes this property unique

Each villa is like a "luxury self contained" boutique style hotel with private swimming pool, jacuzzi, bar, gym, kitchen etc as well as many other facilities for guests exclusive use.
