About this property

4* House. Beautiful Sea Views. Near Golf Course. Dog Friendly

Located in the heart of Corsewall Estate, close to the village of Kirkcolm, surrounded by historic woodland, Garden Cottage forms the west wing of the 18th Century Corsewall House and has wonderful views across Loch Ryan.

Recently restored, with three bedrooms, this luxury self catering cottage comfortably accommodates six.

The living area downstairs is open plan with a stylish kitchen including a Belfast sink and large dining table.

The spacious sitting room, furnished with arm chairs and sofas, is south facing and overlooks the extensive estate gardens, which in spring burst with colour from the Rhododendrons and Azaleas.

There is twin/double bedroom with zip and link beds on the ground floor with an en suite bathroom. There is also a shower room & WC and a utility room.

Upstairs, there is a twin and a double bedroom with a bathroom and en suite shower respectively.

All linen, fluffy white towels, extra thick, feather-filled duvets and pillows are provided. Heating and electricity are also included in the price.

Garden Cottage is equipped with a bean to cup coffee machine, Smart TV, DVD player; Roberts radio, Bluetooth speaker and WiFi, a selection of board games, books and classic films. It has its own private garden area including garden furniture, croquet set and a barbecue. Garden Cottage is eco friendly with the power being generated from one of the Estate's two wind turbines and the heating and hot water provided by a biomass boiler.

We provide a welcome pack for guests on arrival including a jar of incredibly edible, home-made Corsewall brownies, milk, bread, jam, butter, tea, coffee and fresh flowers from the garden (when in season). You'll find the cottage well equipped with the general basics too from washing up liquid, bin bags to washing powder and loo roll.

Over the past year we’ve been busy in our little corner of South West Scotland creating a host of magnificent woodland paths and coastal walks around Corsewall Estate for guests to enjoy during their stay. There are lots different options for shortening the walks or lengthening them. Many guests comment that they love the new paths as they don’t need to drive anywhere to walk – it’s just a case of stepping outside and the walks are right on their doorstep.

Corsewall Estate has three pretty beaches on Loch Ryan - Boat Bank, Lady Bay and Port Beg - that Garden Cottage guests can explore. A pretty walk down one of the drives will take you to Boat Bank, which is the nearest one to Garden and Stables Cottage. Both Boat Bank and Lady Bay are wonderful spots if you like collecting shells or pebbles - oyster shells and mussels to cowries and scallop shells never fail to disappoint. Bird watching down on the shores of Loch Ryan or in the woods is second to none.

Port Beg is a pretty bay, pebbly down to the waterline and then sandy in the sea - ideal for paddling and swimming. There are lots of rock pools - so a bucket and a net is a must for the kids! There's a grassy area for picnics and barbies and the views out to sea, with Ailsa Craig in the foreground and the Isle of Arran in the distance, are simply magical.

Garden Cottage has huge lawns in front of the house - so it's a great place for children to play football or for a game of croquet - croquet set supplied! There is a large trampoline with safety net and a great climbing frame with a play house, slide, climbing wall and swings.

The gardens provide a secure environment for children and it is a wonderful location for them to enjoy the great outdoors and play good old fashioned games from hide and seek to kick the can. The lawns are great for running about, and there are lots of little banks, which are ideal for rolling down. A stream runs through the estate, so with two stone bridges and an endless supply of sticks, Pooh sticks is always a fun game for children to enjoy.

And families are welcome to set up camp in the woods beside the lawns - we provide the tent, roll mats, wood and campfire location - guests just need to bring their sleeping bags! And if it all gets too much for some younger members of the camping party, they can always retreat back to home comforts indoors.

Located in over 20 acres of gardens and woodland adjacent to Corsewall House, there are lots of walking paths around the estate you can enjoy - on foot or by bike. This also makes it a great holiday for dogs too! In late January and February, the woods feature charming drifts of snowdrops followed by daffodils and in April and May the hue turns to purple with acres of bluebells. There is colour in the gardens almost all the way through the year starting with camellia from January to March, followed by a riot of colour in April and May as the rhododendrons and azaleas come into flower. The autumn sees the hydrangeas providing colour all the way through to November.

There is oodles of wildlife to spot – from roe deer and hares to barn owls, woodpeckers and most importantly, this area is one of the last bastions of the red squirrel.

The Blue Peter pub in the village of Kirkcolm is 10 minutes' walk away and does good pub grub.

Two dogs are very welcome at the cottage - there are lots of lovely walks for them around the estate and down to the shore. We charge £25 per dog per week/£20 per dog per short break and we ask that you let us know in advance to book them in.

We have a second cottage, Stables Cottage, about 50 metres from Garden Cottage, which sleeps 4 - so groups of up to 10 can easily be accommodated in both locations.

Beautiful Cottage and Location - Just Perfect!
Immaculate, large cottage with a luxury feel and everything you could need. We loved our stay. The Welcome Basket was a lovely extra touch. The grounds are amazing. You can walk for miles. We explored beaches every day with our dog. Stranraer is 10 minutes drive. Free EV charging close-by at Wig Bay.

Welcome Return
We so looked forward to returning to Garden Cottage, very well equipped and with a comforting, clean and classic feel in such beautiful surroundings. Great first holiday for the puppy. This year we could take full advantage of the attractions of the locality and wider Galloway. We shall return to the estate of Kate and Angus sometime again in the future.

Just what we wanted!
We wanted a break to relax, for long dog walks, to take in some beautiful scenery, and relax as a family in a homely cottage. This is exactly what we got at Corsewall, the estate had the walks and the scenery, and the cottage had everything we needed. The owners book even gave us all the directions just in case we needed it! Great place which will have great family memories and we are likely to return to in the future!

Family summer holiday
Well equipped cottage in a peaceful location. Easy access to local amenities. The owners were very friendly and encourage visitors to walk round the estate, which is stunning. We didn't manage to see any red squirrels, but that just means we will have to return one day 😁

Really good relaxing time. Garden Cottage is very well equipped and comfortable and the local beaches are a delight and hardly anyone on them - even in the sunshine! We really enjoyed walking on the Estate with our dog.

Wonderful Property
Stayed in Garden Cottage for 3 nights with my Husband, Mum, Dad and 2 Dogs. The Cottage is absolutely stunning with fantastic ammenities and some really lovely touches from the owners. The Estate has lovely walks and can take you down to the beach which was heavenly for our dogs. Kate and Angus the owners were so accommodating and couldn't have been more welcoming. Would most definitely recommend and looks forward to staying again here and at some of their other properties.

Peace and tranquility
Lovely renovated wing of large country house. Owners live in the rest of the house, and could not be more helpful, but not in the least intrusive. House is very spacious, tastefully decorated, and extremely comfortable. Large woodland grounds perfect for our dog to explore(pets are very welcome. Very nice touch of bread, jam, milk, tea etc, and superb chocolate brownies on our arrival), and even included some snacks for him which he woofed down We stayed in the middle of winter and loved it, but can imagine would be magical in summer, especially for kids. , with lots to do, including zip wires, trampolines, and camping in the woods if so desired. They will even provide all the equipment you need. The owners positively encourage you to explore and nowhere is off limits. Wildlife in abundance , saw lots of deer, rabbits, pheasant and awesome birds of prey. Owners have set up lots of bird boxes and feeding stations so a nature lovers delight. Beach and sea a 15 minute walk through the grounds. We would heartily recommend this to anyone, a true delight, and Angus and Kate, the owners, cannot do enough to make sure you enjoy your stay. Perfect country get away.

Magical Corsewall Estate - a secret haven!
This was our second visit to Garden Cottage on the Corsewall Estate and once again it lived up to all our expectations. The cottage was clean, tidy and extremely welcoming, the chocolate cookies, fresh loaf, butter and jam made us feel at home again and we settled in immediately. The cottage is very well equipped and spacious with lovely furnishings and the views of the estate grounds down to Loch Ryan are breathtaking. We love the fact that we can roam the grounds looking for the wildlife with success most days! We have seen buzzards circling, hares and rabbits, red squirrels and the resident deer family on several occasions now. Kate and Angus are very welcoming hosts and provide a wealth of information re. places to visit and eat and we would have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful place to friends and relatives. It is a magical spot which we have every intention of returning to.

A Fabulous Family Holiday
We found the accommodation, if anything, even better appointed than the photos on the web site. Our only niggles, no coffee machine and a bath tap that wouldn`t turn off, were rectified within hours. We had lovely walks through the grounds and I was even persuaded on to the zipwire! The whole area with it`s fabulous beaches and places of interest is well worth a visit. Portpatrick became a favourite haunt and I can recommend The Stuart Hotel for good food and fabulous views. I can definitely recommend staying at Garden Cottage. Our party consisted of ages from 11 months to 65 and everyone had a wonderful time.

A wonderful cottage
Upon arrival, we were delighted to find refreshments (including Corsewall cookies!) in this beautiful cottage. It was an absolute joy to stay in this superbly appointed, tastefully decorated, well maintained and spotlessly clean accommodation. It was a pleasure to return here after a day of exploring the stunning Rhinns. We enjoyed watching the antics of the red squirrels around the garden and took pleasure in roaming freely through the wonderful Estate gardens and down to the shore of Loch Ryan. We have also stayed in High Clachan and Stables Cottage, and can honestly say that these, along with Garden Cottage, are by far the best self-catering accommodation we have ever stayed in. Kate and Angus always make us feel thoroughly welcome and nothing is too much trouble for them. We would absolutely recommend this accommodation - it's a little piece of heaven!

Fantastic peaceful retreat
We found Garden Cottage and the Estate lovely places to relax, unwind and forget about the stresses of our busy working lives. Garden Cottage comprises fantastic accommodation and for our astronomy loving son a great place to see the night sky with no light pollution. We recommend a stroll along the shores of the adjacent Loch Ryan, a quiet drink or take away fish and chips at the Blue Peter, visits to the many lighthouses on the coast, the Victorian Fish Pond, Wigtown (lots of second hand book shops), Castle Kennedy Gardens and The Galloway Dark Skies Park (allow a day to wander around the lake - 6 miles all around!). For a special meal book lunch or dinner at the Corsewall Lighthouse. Angus and Kate, our hosts, were attentive but in an unobtrusive way, always on hand to provide assistance if required. It was just relaxing watching the red squirrels eating nuts right outside our bedroom window. We will return and recommend Garden Cottage and the Corsewall Estate to our friends and family. Thank you Angus and Kate, form Ian, Sarah, David and Matthew (Chelmsford, Essex)

Loved this house!
My husband and I rented this property with 4 friends for a 5 night stay over New Year 2012/13. We normally head north for New Year but Garden Cottage caught our eye because of its location and facilities. The description and pictures of the property cannot adequately describe it. It is fabulous. One of the best we have stayed in and we have stayed in a lot over time. We were made very welcome on arrival and the owners were very helpful but in no way intrusive. The property is furnished to a very high standard and there a lovely flow to the layout downstairs with the open-plan living/dining/kitchen area. The Christmas tree and decorations were an added bonus, as was the welcome pack on arrival. Chilled wine to start our stay was much appreciated! The estate provides many walks and wildlife for visitors and I saw my first ever red squirrel at the feeding box right outside the front door! There were also deer in the garden area in front of the house and myriad birds to spot from our window. We had THE most relaxing time there.Everyone agreed that the property offered every opportunity to escape from city living and concentrate on re-charging the batteries for the New Year. I would urge you to book a stay in Garden Cottage. There is nothing not to like. We liked it so much that we only took one excursion out of the estate - to Portpatrick, where we had fish and chips at Campbell's at the harbour. Fab restaurant with great food. Another reason visit this area. Thanks to Kate and Angus for providing such a quality property at a very reasonable cost. The property is a credit to both of you

Glorious Garden Cottage!
I'm not eloquent enough to put into words how lovely Garden Cottage is. I could go on in great detail about how well it has been renovated and restored, with lots of character, but with the wonderful luxury of a bathroom for every bedroom; a well-equipped kitchen that includes a dishwasher; the modern convenience of an ipod station and a large flat screen TV in the sitting room; and the fabulously fluffy quilts and pillows on all of the beds. But, no matter what I say about it, my words cannot convey how homely and wonderfully comfy it feels! Then, of course, I could wax lyrical about the surrounding grounds of woodland, the expansive lawns and lovely walks, and the views of the loch. However, nothing I could say would cover the best bit, which is the wildlife that visits your bedroom window - if you're lucky enough to be in the ground floor room! You can watch red squirrels, woodpeckers, and every kind of British garden bird, while lying in bed, and from the sitting room, magically, you can also see deer visit the garden for an afternoon snack! I can't praise it enough, but, none of the above would be anything without it's hosts, Kate and Angus, and their sweet family and pets! You could never hope to meet more beautiful, generous, kind hearted, and genuine people, and I wish them every success with it, and hope to see them again in the near future! That's about as eloquent as I can get, but none of it does Garden Cottage justice, so my advice would be to just go - your heart, soul and body will thank you for it!

Beautiful cottage, beautiful gardens
Garden Cottage is a beautiful cottage set in beautiful grounds within the Corsewall estate. The property provides high quality, 5 star accomodation. The owners were friendly, helpful and very hospitable. This is a quiet part of Galloway with lovely views over Loch Ryan. Ferries to Northern Ireland are within a half hour drive of Corsewall. There is a chocolate factory and an ice-cream factory about an hours drive away which were both well worth a visit and our children thoroughly enjoyed both. Lovely break despite the not so good weather. Many thanks. Lisa and Pete, York

Try life in a brand new house in a stately home!
If anything the description of this property undersells it. We have rented many properties through Home Away and this one does not disappoint - the best we've had in the UK. It is essentially a wing of an old manor house with large rooms and high ceilings - but beautifully renovated and decorated, spotlessly clean and with lovely fixtures and fittings. You approach the cottage up a long drive, and look out onto a huge "garden" ( more a country estate ), which when we visited was a playground for a couple of deer and the landing path for a local eagle. The pre-visit communications were spot on and helpful, and we were made to feel instantly welcome on arrival and throughout our stay. If you are holidaying in Dumfries and Galloway, stay here. 10/10.

The Carrick-Buchanan family has owned Corsewall Estate for over 200 years. When Angus and Kate Carrick-Buchanan moved to Corsewall House in 2002, they set about renovating a number of properties including this pretty wing of the Corsewall House so we could provide luxury, high-end holiday accommodation.

Why they chose this property

The Carrick-Buchanan family has owned Corsewall Estate for over 200 years - Garden Cottage is one of a number of houses and buildings on the historic, 3000-acre Corsewall Estate.

What makes this property unique

We completed renovated Garden Cottage, the west wing of Corsewall House in 2012, creating a wonderful holiday house with 3 bedrooms and 3 en suite bathrooms and a house shower room - so it's ideal for families getting away together. The house is in a quiet and peaceful location in south west Scotland, far away from crowds, traffic jams and the stress of everyday life. It's surrounded by rolling countryside and is 3/4s of a mile from the sea.
