About this property
Casa Jacaranda Las Canteras
Casa Jacaranda is a tradional alpujarran house some 300 years old, which has been carefully restored to provide a stylish and comfortable place to stay and explore the area. The house has 2 private terraces overlooking the beautiful valley of Las Canteras, where one can spot eagles and wild mountain goats.
Casa Jacaranda is well equipped with 2 wood burners for the cold days of the year. Firewood can be supplied on demand.
The bedrooms are spacious, as is the bathroom with a bath and shower over head. Upstairs there is an enclosed loggia with admirable views. Las Canteras is a tranquil haven for those seeking peace and quiet. The cottage will sleep up to 6 Comfortably and there is a travel cot available. Sheets and towels provided. The opportunities for walking from the house are endless as Las Canteras lies on the ancient trail, the GR142. The other trekking route is the Mar al Cielo which passes through from the coast to the highest peak of the Sierra Nevada, the Mulhacen.
The approach to this hidden valley is along a narrow camino rural, which is asphalted. However it should be noted there are some steep edges. The traffic is extremely light and the locals usually give way to visitors.
It is unadvisable to book for anyone with an extreme fear of heights.
A typical alpujarran meal, including the local organic wine can be ordered in advance as well as breakfast and a picnic for those on a through walk.
The hamlet lies to the south east of the moorish city of Granada. The almond coated hills of the Alpujarras flank the southern slopes of the dramatic Sierra Nevada. This is an area of outstanding beauty, where white washed villages cling to the terraced valleys.
The owners live very nearby and are always on hand to advise and help with walks and local facilities. A car is essential for your stay, as there is no bar or shop. The dear little market town of ugijar is only 15 minutes drive.
There is a good medical center open for 24 hours.
There is a ski resort around 1 hour away, when snow falls in the winter
And the coast is 45 minutes away.
The beautiful nature reserve of the cabo de Gata is within a days drive.

I spend 8 months enjoying this wonderful part of Andalucia, loving the area more and more. The summers are spent in Cornwall, which is equally as beautiful.
