Perfect family getaway
Large cottage perfect for families. Rustic but very comfortable and clean. My boys loved exploring the rooms and playing with the board games. The views of the water were stunning. The owner was great at communicating and always a text away. Our only issue was backing our 21 foot boat into the driveway. Otherwise it was a wonderful vacation! Perfect for large families!

Grandma's cherubs!
I traveled with a friend and 5 of my grand children. After covid shut down I thought it would be nice to connect. We picked this place because of its solitude. We toured the Cabot trail and had a wonderful swim in the ocean. Baddeck was 5 mins down the road so easy access to restaurants and unique stores! We fished at the cottage and released, but so enjoyed our time together. Went whale watching and enjoyed seeing them so much! The cottage it's self had very comfy beds and was well equipped. I would say we had a wonderful time and would love to rent again! 😊 Having 5 teens I would suggest maybe a paddle boat, kayak and canoe. Just for the down times and to let them explore. Hoping to return next year! Thank you Jan.

Great setting for a family retreat
This lovely property is in a beautiful, serene, and quiet location only a few minute drive from Baddeck. The house has rustic charm and is well maintained and all details are carefully attended to. It's an uninsulated structure, so will get warm during a hot day, but even in July it cools off nicely at night. No AC but plenty of fans and operational windows. If you have your own boats/paddleboards/watercraft this would be a great property to rent. If you don't (we did not) it's just a beautiful setting to enjoy. In the middle of July there was little activity on the lake, and you can barely see the next house down the lake, so it feels like a completely private setting. There are lots of sleeping spaces and rooms with doors so its easy to have some privacy, along with a really great main gathering space with dining table and windows facing the lake. Kitchen is small but completely functional. There's even an outdoor shower! Jan, the host, was a pleasure to deal with and responsive via text and offered much helpful advice. Our family really enjoyed being in this home for our summer holiday.

Cozy cottage
We had 3 generations staying in this lovely cottage. It really felt like a home, not a generic rental. Beds and bedding were comfortable. Location is very convenient to Baddeck and points NE. Loved the dock, through the water was still too cold for us the first week of July. We just wanted to stay all summer!

Wonderful spot for a summer stay near Baddeck
We stayed at Jan's spot for a week the end of June and had a wonderful time. A very comfy spot that is rustic (a nice tradtional cottage feel), but well stocked. Right on the lake for swimming and other activities. Jan is a wonderful host who made the booking experience easy and stayed in contact us during the trip.

Lovely property
We had a great experience at this property. The cottage is much larger than expected with more than enough room for 4 adults and 3 pre-teens. It was so convenient to have onsite laundry and we made use of the outdoor shower after spending time on the beach and lake. We didn’t need anything except our clothes and food! The location is fantastic - very private but minutes from Baddeck and the perfect location to start your day whether you’re doing the trail or going to Sydney. Hosts were great and responded quickly to any questions we had.

Roomy and Rustic Boathouse
We enjoyed their this rustic boathouse very much with it's ample space to relaxe and spend time as a family, it's peaceful surroundings, location and the dock access to swim on warmer days. The kitchen is well stocked. The owner even provided an extra item we had enquired about in advance. A small issue was quickly resolved by the owner. The caretaker was readily available. Should we come back to visit Cape Breton, we would certainly look the boathouse up to rent it again if available.

Week at the Cottage
We had a fantastic time here - truly a family cottage stay. Located very close to Baddeck (on the same road on which Alexander Graham Bell lived!) means groceries, coffee shops, and places to eat etc are easy to access. We were also near many trails/waterfall hikes. The cottage itself has loads of space for our two families (including 4 teen boys)- two living room areas (with huge window seats and a view and one with a cozy fire place on cooler evenings), lots of beds (could accommodate two families of four and a set of grandparents comfortably), two baths with separate water heaters, and space to be together or separate, inside and out. The owners Jan and Reid were lovely, quickly responding to our few questions, and the caretakers are nearby if you need them (e.g. for more firewood!). Great location for paddleboarding (a schooner and a ferry wreck to spot!) and relaxing by the water or on the deck. We would recommend, and definitely come back. Thank you Jan and Reid!

Wonderful spot !!
The lake house was a perfect spot for our family getaway! The house is set up nicely so that even with 8 adults you have more then enough space . The owners were very helpful and quick to reply to any questions. The lakefront on this property is very beautiful and made for a very relaxing week away. Location provided good starting point for exploring Cape Breton. Would highly recommend!

Fabulous retreat!
We loved this cottage in Baddeck! Tons of room for the 8 of us and so well equipped right down to the great games selection. Rustic in the most beautiful sense. Lovely location on the lake. Jan was wonderful to deal with all respects with very prompt response and great tips on things to do. We would highly recommend this cottage and hope to be back before long.

Wonderful base for a family celebration!
Our three-generation family celebrated our 50th anniversary at the Lakeside Boat Cottage, and it was a wonderfully comfortable place for all of us to relax in the cushioned wicker furniture and window seats, cook in the well-equipped kitchen, eat together at a table accommodating us all, and sleep in beautifully furnished and comfortable bedrooms. It was also a conveniently central location to the various activities we wanted to take in, from the western side of the Cabot Trail to Ft. Louisbourg in the east. It is beautifully situated with great views of the lake and made a lovely setting for our family photo shoot. We also swam from the dock and the pebble beach and enjoyed the hammock and outdoor chairs. Since I, Grandma, did the booking, I was delighted when our children thanked me for finding such a great place! They loved the outdoor views upon arrival, and they commented on how the interior decor and presence of family photos made us all feel like we were sharing a much-loved family home rather than a generic place furnished from the big box stores. Jan, my contact person, was extremely helpful from the start, quickly answering all my questions, sending me a map of Cape Breton and activity brochures, and providing porta-cribs and an activity saucer for our 14 month old and 8 month old grandsons. They along with our 3 year old grandson all enjoyed the wonderful array of toys available. The mothers of these little boys were especially grateful for the washer and dryer in the cottage, which they used daily. The housekeeper was available for any questions we had upon arrival, and she responded quickly and helpfully while giving us our privacy. One of the owners was living in the house next-door, and he also greeted us and was helpful but in no way intrusive. He shared a little of the history of the cottage in their family, which added to our sense of a family-friendly atmosphere. We felt well supported by those with local knowledge throughout our stay. I would not hesitate to highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a quiet but accessible base for their Cape Breton visit. I'm sure you will find it delightfully comfortable and enjoyable, as we did.

Great location and so comfortable
We chose this for a 50th anniversary get-together with family members, and what a wise choice. Sleeping areas are quite private, but there is plenty of common space without anyone feeling crowded, even room to do a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle and not be in the way of anyone else's activity. We appreciated the abundance of towels and kitchen equipment. The resident hare didn't seem to mind our presence. What a joy to wake up in the morning with that view! Would love to return!

Great Cottage Week
We stayed here for just under a week. Great set up and much larger than advertised. Easily accomodated our group of 4 adults and 3 kids. Fantastic views from all the rooms and very close to Baddeck. Good fishing off the dock where we caught striped Bass every night. This is an easy referral to give.

Brilliant week away
Great location just out of Baddeck. Kids first impression as drove done track was ' Brilliant' and within 5 minutes they were swimming off deck. For them the swimming included seeing starfish, crabs and fish and catching a few before throwing them back. Property lovely inside and well maintained. Setting was such that there was little need to head out in the evenings rather we sat and watched the sunset over the lake. Great location to travel throughout the Cape. Fortress of Luisburg, Skytrail and Ingenosh were all within 90 minutes. Luisburg was fantastic as was the trip to Bird Island from Englishtown. Another highlight was the bald eagles being fed from the boat! Baddeck was easily accessible and while we didn't venture out much in evenings the Bell Buoy restaurant was good and there is a nightly Ceilidh. Caretaker was easy to access and wifi great. Would recommend this cottage as a great central location to roam far and wide across Cape Breton.

Wonderful cottage, wonderful location
We spent a week at this cottage in late June and it was wonderful. Everything was as promised in the description. The cottage was clean and spacious and the location was great. It was wonderful to be on the lake for fishing and to be centrally located for all of the interesting sights to be enjoyed on Cape Breton. Highly recommended!

Beautiful spot - quintessential Cape Breton
We had a great time @ the cottage. Beautiful views, rustic charm and great location. Close to all sightseeing, boat tours, Baddeck and AGB Museum. Kids loved the bunks and the loft - like a tree house, also swimming was great. So lucky to be able to enjoy this gorgeous spot in Cape Breton.

Rustic cottage where you can see the generations of happy times.
Three generations of my family stayed here for Canada Day and July 4th. If you are looking for a rustic cottage to use as a base, this is it. We explored water falls, hiking trails, saw moose and bald eagles, and went sailing. Jan and Barb go out of their way to be good hosts. Everything you need for a wonderful stay is provided.

Idyllic setting in the center of Cape Breton
This rustic lake front cottage - right down the same road where Alexander Graham Bell lived for many years - has a spectacular view and all the privacy you could want. It is only about a five minute drive into Baddeck, arguably the best location for touring Cape Breton. Even with a couple of short hikes and other stops in the National Park, the Cabot Trail can easily be done from Baddeck in a day, and the impressively reconstructed Fortress of Louisbourg is only an hour and a half drive. Baddeck itself has considerable charm, with a number of good and fun restaurants. A notebook in the cottage of things to do and see prepared by the owners was most helpful. For golfers the Bell Bay Golf Club was set beautifully and in great condition. The cottage itself was very homey with family pictures and other memorabilia. The kitchen was very well equipped. We vacationed in early September, so the pot belly stove in the master was welcome and fun to use. We were three couples; however, the house could easily hold several more (especially children). All in all, a memorable vacation made even better by our stay at the Lake Cottage.

Excellent choice
Great "homey" cabin, good central location for seeing other parts of Cape Breton, bigger than it appears, photos don't do it justice. Kids loved a small loft bedroom for playing. Some distant highway noise which may bother you if you are seeking perfect quiet outdoors. Very private. Very well stocked with everything that you may have forgotten. Owners were very helpful and attentive and caretakers were very responsive. Could easily fit two families. Two water heaters in two baths, which was nice after a few cool June days spent hiking. Easy travel distance to Mabou, hiking in Cape Breton Highlands, Ft. Louisburg, Iona, St. Anne's Gaelic College. Seems like most tourist activities (e.g., Ceilidhs) happen in July and August, but June was very nice time of year for visiting, although know that it may be challenging to keep the uninsulated house warm. Baddeck was very friendly town.
