Cosy bolt hole
This property is in a beautiful location overlooking the Cellardyke tidal pool. It is a mile to walk into Anstruther. Very warm and cosy even on a cold and snowy night.

A bucket list trip
We so very much enjoyed our stay at this lovely pristine property. Ian and Janis are wonderful hosts and were most helpful. We so enjoyed the views of the ocean from the upstairs windows- quite a treat for prairie folks. We even braved a dip in the tidal pools down the road October 1! We would stay here again in a heartbeat if we are blessed enough to return to the area of Scotland in the future . Many, many thanks .

Great Place to Stay
We are return guests to the Cooperage. Usually stay at number 5 but number 4 is just as good. Although a little fiddly to get to down narrow streets it is well worth it. The panoramic sea view from the living/kitchen/dining room is fantastic. The property has everything you need, and it is only a short walk to Anstruther if you want to eat out. Only one thing missing is a charging point for shavers/electric toothbrushes, will bring an adaptor next time! Great location for golf courses which stretch all along the Fife coast.

One of the best ever cottages
We were extremely impressed with Salt Herrings. Excellent cottage, stunning views with so much to explore in the idylic East Neuk of Fife. We especially appreciated our host, Ian's attention to detail and friendly welcome. The ensuite was perfect for my dad. Dad even spotted dolphins swimming past the impressive panoramic windows from the upstairs living area. Sometimes cottage owners leave an extensive do-not-do list, in an attempt, understandably, to protect their property but this was not the case here - which we really felt added to a more laid back holiday vibe. Thank you Ian and Janis for offering such a perfect holiday cottage for visitors to enjoy.

Wonderful Oasis
Salt Herrings is a beautifully appointed and well cared for cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay and wished we had the time too stay longer! It is definitely on our 'must return' list. We loved the spectacular views, sipping wine in the 'sitooterie' watching the waves crash in and the sea birds swoop and dive. At night the skies were thick with stars - just lovely for shooting star watch! The cottage views out to May Island and surrounding countryside were never tiresome. Just a short stroll into the village revealed harbour views and more of the rich Scottish landscape. It was such a pleasure to be there. Hosts Ian and Janis were lovely and so accommodating - one couldn't ask for more!

Fabulous!
A superb house with amazing views, very well appointed and immaculately clean. Wonderful thoughtful extras.....fresh flowers, tea, coffee and shortbread even delicious chocolate toffees. Parking is available in a garage at the back of the house but there is also space on the street outside the front door. The outside sitooterie is such a splendid bonus. I highly recommend this property.

Stunning accommodation, 5 stars!
Salt Herrings is a perfect holiday accommodation. It is spacious, cosy with stunning views from all the rooms. I would describe it as an 'upside down ' house with the open plan living area upstairs and the bedrooms/bathrooms and utility room downstairs. Beautiful decor, well equipped, cosy and warm. Ian and Janis were very welcoming, and around should we have needed anything. I would 100% recommend this accommodation.

It's all about the views
We had a great week at Salt Herring. Iain popped round after we arrived to make sure we were all sorted and give us some info on location of thermostat etc. whcih was great. We have been to the East Neuk serveral times but never stayed in Cellardyke, if you do make sure you stay somewhere that takes advantage of the views out to the Isle of May. Getting up each morning to watch the sunrise was a joy and watching storm Barra throw waves against the coast was fantastic while we were warm and comfortable in Iain and Janis's house. After all a week Salt Herring is all av=bout the view.

Can’t wait to return!
A beautiful property, spotlessly clean with everything anyone could need. Janis and Ian were so friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. The view from the living room is just stunning and the Isle of May as a daily sight is wonderful. We enjoyed the Sitooterie with drinks and snacks and were sad to leave.

Family Break
Absolutely wonderful cottage with the most fantastic views over the sea and sky especially from the lounge windows...the pictures honestly do not do this view justice. Very comfortable and really clean, with everything that you could ever need already there, and more. With lots of lovely extra features like the roll top bath and log burner and others little touches of fresh flowers and candles, throws and especially The Sitootery.... what a place to sit out with a wine and relax day or night, totally perfect! Cannot wait to go back again, this is a great property. We had such an enjoyable and relaxing break for 3 nights, and the owners Janis and Ian are friendly and helpful.

Wonderful cottage
A wonderful cottage in an excellent location. Views over the Firth of Forth to the Isle of May and East Lothian are great. The sitooterie is ideal for watching the water with a coffee or glass of wine. The cottage living area is comfortable with everything on hand. Comfortable bed and excellent shower. We would definitely consider coming back. A nice few days stay topped off with a display from the dolphins. Superb.

Why they chose this property

Enjoy the breathtaking vistas from the upstairs open plan lounge/ diner in this wonderful conversion of an old Cooperage steeped in history dating back to 1877.
Have a memorable stay in part of what was once "Cormack's fish curing sheds and Cooperage"
The property also has guaranteed parking which is very unusual for sea front cottages in the picturesque East Neuk fishing villages.
