About this property
Charming house in Elne historic centre with views
'Maison de Village' well located in the medieval area of Elne, high within the old ramparts and a stone's throw from the cathedral. Attractive accommodation over four floors, simply furnished and well equipped. Two double bedrooms, terrace with great rooftop views, kitchen/living area with secluded patio, large utility area, full bathroom & 2nd wc. Elne is a historic town, and provides a quiet base away from the crowds from which to explore the coast and the mountains.
The space
A typical village house of the region, located in the heart of the 'Ville haute', in a raised position within the old ramparts with far reaching views over the rooftops to the mountains and the sea from the top terrace. The house is light and airy throughout with windows at the front and back (unusual with this type of house), and original features such as beautifully tiled floors and curved metal banisters. Arranged over four floors, there are two good sized double bedrooms, a large bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, living/dining area and a utility/storage area. At the back of the house is a high walled courtyard which provides respite in hot weather and is perfect for outdoor dining. While the traditional tiled stairs are comfortable to use (ie not too steep or narrow) please bear this in mind when booking. The house leads out onto a pretty cobbled street with painted houses, plants and benches, and while cars are permitted it has a pedestrianised feel. While the location is quiet, within a few steps of the house there are two well regarded restaurants and a bar, and the nearest grocery store is a 5 minute walk 'downtown' as is the local bakery and weekly market. This is our home from home and while we have kept our personal belongings to a minimum there will be some of our things around, which we hope makes this a more welcoming place to stay and share with you. Please respect our house as you would your own, and make yourself at home. We have left many items for communal use, from beach stuff to shopping bags and maps, do make use of these and leave them as you found them for the next guests. The house would suit a family with older children or couples/adults travelling together who want a base to relax and enjoy local life as well as to be able to easily get to places of interest. There is a cot but please note the house is not toddler proof - there are stairs, high windows and the cupboards do not have safety locks so if you have a very young child on the move it is advisable to bring stair gates and anything else you need to make your stay safe and stress free. A new baby will be fine.
Floors:
Ground Floor: entrance way, large utility/storage area, bathroom with bath & separate shower
First Floor: kitchen, living/dining area & rear courtyard/patio
Second Floor: double bedroom, wc & sink
Third (top) Floor: double bedroom & terrace
Guest access
You'll have sole use of the whole house. Some cupboards will be locked or marked private so please don't use these areas. There will be plenty of drawer space and hangers for your clothes, also a large area on the ground floor for suitcases, bikes and any other bulky items.
Other things to note
There is currently no wi-fi or TV at the house. We use the house to get away from these things, so if you are looking for a break from devices/screens and to step back to a simpler life this is the perfect place. Mobile data allowances can be used across all EU countries and we usually find this adequate for our needs (checking opening times for places of interest etc) and music, films, podcasts etc can be downloaded prior to travel. Please check with your mobile provider before you travel and purchase extra data if required. We hope this will be viewed as a positive but we are interested in your feedback with regard to wifi and whether this is an issue for you when considering our property. We will be reviewing this for the 2020 season.
Please leave the house ready for our housekeeper to clean for the next guest. Full instructions on what to do on arrival/departure will be in the house on arrival. Cleaning fee includes bedding (beds will be made up ready for you with sheet/pillows & top sheet or duvet depending on time of year), set of towels per person (bath towel/hand towel) and cleaning on departure.
If you only want to stay for a few nights or require flexible check in/out times or anything else please make an enquiry and I will respond as quickly as possible.
