This is a fantastic location close to town with great access to the water and wildlife all around. Seeing deer, turkeys and catching smallmouth bass are all great activities here.
We loved this property and location! House was very clean and had everything we needed. We loved the fireplace! Thank you for sharing your house we will definitely rent again!
This is a wonderful rustic yet clean and comfortable cabin very close to town. We enjoyed fishing in the river (bring river shoes) and watching wildlife from the porch. Cell service is spotty until you can connect to WiFi so be sure to save check in and wifi code info or you’ll have to drive back in town.
Our family had a wonderful stay at Country Roads. The kitchen and den were great for our group. We kept a fire going all weekend and really enjoyed the secluded feeling even though we were just a mile down the road from everything we needed! John was quick to respond to any questions I had. We look forward to staying there again!
Perfect cabin for a weekend trip with friends. Beautiful views overlooking the Maury River and plenty of room for a large group. Only downside was no internet and the cell service is spotty but that was a non issue. Thanks for hosting!
Country Roads is a special property, with abundant views of a peaceful meadow and the Maury River. The cabin is frozen in time and has an interesting, retro vibe. Our family loved the peaceful transition of coming here in between graduation activities, and we enjoyed bird-watching, fishing in the river, sitting by the firepit at night, and conversing on the front porch each morning. Would definitely return.
I don't know where I have been more relaxed. We kept a fire crackling and took a walk throughout the property--along the river and into the woods. Everyone slept well and enjoyed themselves.
The cabin is spacious and provided what we needed. Depending on what you are looking for, you may want to know that the cabin interior is dated. However, much of that is charming. For example, the vintage appliances look new--making them a feature rather than a negative.
Loved the property and location. Away from everything, very private. Cabin is well equipped. Don’t plan on doing any work there as cell phone signal very week and no Wi-Fi (which is a positive to get away from “it all”). Saw many deer, and fireflies at night in the meadow were spectacular!!
What a great cabin! The pictures on this site don't do it justice... it is great! Even my 84 year old mother-in-law enjoyed it! The river was a little low, but with a little effort, we were able to enjoy a canoe ride. Even without WIFI it was great! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Perfect home for our family for a week spent around graduation at VMI. We had no idea we’d be staying in a VMI alumnus’ home. Extra treat! The house was well appointed with everything you need in the kitchen for family meals.
Location was perfect with amenities like the beautiful wrap around porch that overlooks the river. John was very helpful and communicative. Would definitely recommend this host/property and try to stay at this same location should the opportunity arise.
The house was wonderful. We wanted a quiet relaxing weekend and got just that. We enjoyed sitting around the firepit watching the river flow by. Very quiet, very peaceful. Once it got too cold outside we moved inside and lit a fire in the beautiful stone fireplace inside the house. The kitchen is well stocked. We had everything we needed.
Charming, comfortable cabin with a great view of the Maury River valley. It was roomy and well appointed, with lots of amenities. A bit more attention to cleaning with make it perfect.
The cabin is perfectly located - convenient to I-81, grocery store and downtown Lexington. While close to town, it feels like you are miles away. The river was the perfect spot for fly fishing. We took the kayaks out one afternoon. And we enjoyed our evenings by the fire pit. The owner was very responsive and had plenty of firewood for our use (we were a bit bummed that it was too warm to use the fireplace inside). The cabin has plenty of space for a family to enjoy both inside and out. We hope to visit again!
Country Roads is a perfect place to get away with old friends. I got together with friends I hadnt seen in years. We had an amazing peaceful time. Every morning we cooked bacon in the huge open kitchen and had coffee out on the deck while watching the deer and birds. A few times we saw bald eagles doen by the river. Its very close to downtown Lexington so its easy acces to get food or go to restaurants, but the real draw is the views on the property and having a peaceful amd beautiful spot to enjoy with friends or family.
Great river cabin near Lexington. There’s excellent bass fishing in one of the ponds on the property and in the Maury River. The cabin is excellent for up to six people. We had a great time.
We LOVED our stay at this secluded cabin that was just minutes from town. The River and trees and area are just beautiful. That cabin has everything you need. The owner was quick to respond to questions. Would definitely stay here again!
Stayed for W&L Graduation week. Close proximity to town (5 min drive). Very clean and comfortable and quiet. Wonder view of Maury river from back porch. Host is very accommodating.
