Winter Wonderland
My wife and I, had had enough of English winter rain so we rented an appartment in El Medano on Tenerife for January and February. The location made it possible to walk to all the restaurants, supermarkets, and the twice-a-week market - one day with local produce (great stuff!) and one day with nick-nack (not-so-great stuff). Our manager was extremely helpful when we needed to find something specific in El Medano (The Dune) and even kept the Netflix functioning most of the time (however sometimes in German - it is odd to have German subtitles on an American movie). The appartment was arid and easy to keep clean and the manager found a very efficient cleaning lady for us. The washing machine on the top floor needed a little "persuasion" to get started but it ended up doing the job every time. On the top floor, there also was a balcony with sunshine almost all the day and a great view over a bay where foil-surfers and kite-surfers frolicked almost every day (It is fun to have fun, but you have to know how...). We had one day of rain, the day we left...El Medano seems to be built around an old village so, eventhough it is a tourist joint, it has more character than some of the concrete edifices the ilsland have to offer. Tenerife have all the tourist trappings including whale watching - and the whales don't mind us petting their calves - much. There is even a tour boat named Armageddon in old Norse (Ragnarok)! So now you know, even the vikings came to Tenerife - not!
