About this property

Cottage 345 - Oughterard - sleeps 10 guests in 4 bedrooms

Overview:
A modern and luxurious 4-bedroom holiday home located just a short drive from the villages of Oughterard and Moycullen, and just a 20-minute drive from Galway City. The property is in excellent condition throughout and has been built and finished to a very high standard. The cottage once was one of original 18 railway gatekeeper cottages built along the Galway to Clifden railway that operated between 1895-1935. Only a few still remain today. The Oughterard area is considered to be the fishing capital of Ireland. Lough Corrib has an international reputation for its fine brown trout. Trout fishing usually commences in mid-May during the Mayfly season. The village provides lots of places to eat and drink and has an abundance of shops which will supply you with everything you need for your self-catering holiday. Local activities include fishing, hill walking, Brigit's Garden, pony trekking, golf, mountain bike trail, boating and much more. Available for short breaks.

4 Bedrooms - Sleeps 10. Bedroom 1 is king room with ensuite bathroom and includes wardrobe, lockers and lamps. Bedroom 2 is a king room with wardrobe, bedside lockers and lamps. Bedroom 3 and 4 are bunk rooms with a double and single bunk and bedside locker. The kitchen is equipped with an electric cooker and oven, American style fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, and there is a dining area with table and chairs for 10 persons. The living room offers a TV and comfortable furnishings. There is a second sitting room full of railway memorabilia with wood burning stove and large flatscreen TV. The utility room houses the washing machine and dryer. The family bathroom includes shower, WC and hand basin. A hair dryer is provided. There is a patio area with garden furniture and BBQ as well as an elevated outdoor firepit where you can view the Connemara scenery in the evening. The garden is gated and fully enclosed. Wi-fi. Relaxing stay

A beautiful very well equipped cottage in a very unspoilt part of the countryside. Beautiful walks from the cottage and close to lovely pubs and restaurants.

Family Ireland Trip

Location was perfect to be away from the cities yet close enough to get to shopping & food. Plenty of attractions & hiking within short drives. Facility has all needs covered with beds to cover all. Highly recommend it to those not interested in city/hotel type lodging

We stayed here for New Year as a family group. The house had plenty of space and something for everyone. It was so well stocked. We all really enjoyed our time.

Short stay in Oughterard

The only thing that wasn't so nice was the noise of the heat pump every 2 minutes for 10 seconds day and night

Lovely home

We had a lovely time and the property was beautiful! Loved the wee local town and everyone was so friendly! One suggestion, as we stayed so close to Christmas it would have been lovely to have a Christmas tree or something festive in the house!

Very Happy and a lovely base to explore from.

Cottage is lovely and easy to find the local village is walkable and has everything you would want with shops and great restaurants (reasonable prices too) the only small thing we would suggest they improve is the lighting in the kitchen which is really insufficient if you want to cook in the evening.

Perfect with kids

This house is set up perfectly for adults traveling with their school aged kids. Separate lounges with multiple doors in between allow for privacy and quiet. The only slight discomfort is the heat pump/sump pump that runs often but at uneven intervals. You soon learn to tune it out, but it can be distracting at first. Beautiful and comfortable home.

Everything we hoped it would be for our first stop in Ireland

Very sad to have checked out of this property. The owners were amazingly flexible giving us a lunchtime check in, after our ferry arrived in Rosslare at 4am. The garden was super dog friendly and secure, lots of space for running around and playing. Our dog is sadder than us to have left. The house itself is very comfortable. We loved spending time in the open plan kitchen and the little snug. Great hot water and shower pressure after long days hiking in Connemara national park. Everything was pretty much perfect for us.

4/10 Poor

Jenny J.

Dirty and Neglected Cottage. Poor customer service from Love Connemara Cottages - Avoid.

The cottage had not been cleaned. The sheets and mattress protector had soiled stains on them, the toilet seat was soiled, the bathroom door had brown stains around the handle and the lock was missing, bedside table was covered in a black sticky mess, there was rotting fruit in the cupboard, the walls and light switches were filthy, the children's bedrooms were covered in spiders webs, the main door had a metal bar sticking out from the inside which was dangerous, the glass light fitting was broken exposing cut glass edges, there was mould in the showers, the drawers were full of rubbish left from previous renters, the dining table and fridge hadn't been cleaned, dead flies had been squashed into the walls, the TV remote control had many missing buttons making it unusable, the tumble dryer was full of lint making it a fire hazard, and there were many more issues. I contacted Love Connemara Cottages immediately with photographic evidence. They made excuses for all the issues. They advised the soiled toilet seat was a tan stain (it was not), I cleaned this myself and sent before and after photos to them. They advised that they would speak to the launderette re sheets, they conveniently ignored the bedside table, fridge, flies, dirt, missing toilet locks etc. They didn't offer an apology or offer to take any immediate action. They advised that the previous tenants reported the property as being immaculate (which I struggle to believe), making it seem as if we were being fussy. After many frustrating emails they agreed to provide me with a small partial refund, but not the partial refund I had requested. Receiving the refund was also a battle and many emails later I have finally received it (7 weeks later). During the refund process they continued to make mistakes, making the process longer and more frustrating. They told me that I had booked the property through Vrbo and needed to chase the refund through them. (I didn't book through Vrbo, I booked directly with Love Connemara Cottages). They also under refunded me. They calculated the refund only from the second payment I had made for the cottage, and not the full amount which included a deposit that I had already paid for the cottage. In making their calculation they also miscalculated the percentage they were supposed to give me. As a result I have still been under refunded. Overall my experience with Love Connemara Cottages was very disappointing and extremely long winded and frustrating. The cottage was mis represented in the photographs by Love Connemara Cottages and their customer service was poor. I also visited their offices in Clifden twice during this time, to try to resolve the issues face to face, but their offices are permanently closed with the blinds down. Avoid booking with this company.

Historic Cottage

Overall our stay was good. The let downs included not having been given the correct key code for entry and having to wait too long for it.. The main contact was a very nice house cleaning lady who did her best to help. She too tried to contact management to get help for us. She finally got us the right code and we were in. The communication with the property manager was poor. There was no response to requests for a coffee pot and additional toilet paper. It would have been nice to have some directions regarding use of the stove and heating system. Nice home, and location though.

House was very well presented with a superb big garden fully walled in. The house was very comfortable and child friendly. Easy walk into oughterard and 30 mins drive from galway city and 45 from the national park so ideally located for all tastes. Proof in the pudding that we have reserved same house again next year.
