Monkswell Park dates back to the 1920s, and is described in Pevsner's Buildings of England as 'The most distinguished property tucked into the slopes overlooking Hope Cove with wings angled to create a protected terrace with veranda facing the sea.' With fabulous sea views over Lyme Bay Monkswell Park benefits from an extremely rural and quiet, picturesque cliff top location, but is only one and a half miles from Torquay town centre, and approximately twenty miles from the historic city of Exeter. There are excellent local shops and restaurants nearby, and a sandy beach within half a mile of the property. There is also 'near-private' access to a pebble beach from the one and a half acre lawn garden. The nearest railway station is Torquay although Newton Abbot is only seven miles away. The nearest airport is Exeter

stunning location, quiet, gorgeous large cottage

Very nicely decorated 3 bed property, with stunning views out to sea. The cottage is to the left side of the picture, with an enclosed courtyard, open the gate to another set of table and chairs with the view out to sea. The Annex is down below on the right of the picture, and looks directly out to sea. Quiet and peaceful, plenty of room. The private cove is down LOTS of tiny steps, but kept well tended if you want to go down. The propery is down a little coastal path lane behind large gates, just off the bumpy Ilsha marine drive. Beautiful large sloping gardens, sat and watched Morris the automatic mower cut the grass. WIFI not too good though, especially if your 02!! Best place for a signal, master bedroom by dressing table. Very close to Torquay centre seafront. Fab power shower in master. Books, dvds, games on hand, with large tv, and everything in the kitchen you could wish for. We found the bed in the master bedroom very hard, but the twin room beds were better. Lovely hosts, homemeade maramalade & slice of cake on arrival. Its all about the view here....bliss.

Lovely property with fabulous sea views and much to do in the area!

We enjoyed our stay at Monkswell Park - the gardens are beautiful and the accommodation itself was spotlessly clean and comfortable. It's worth mentioning that the cottage is the left hand side elevation of the property in the picture rather than the whole building and that phone reception and internet is very patchy (which is mentioned in the details but it was quite difficult for us as business owners to keep up to date with work and would possibly have been trickier had we brought grandchildren that love gaming!). Having said that, the views are magnificient and the owners were very welcoming and helpful. The walks around the headland are superb and the local beaches at are fabulous - do get the furnicular down to Babbacombe beach and take the walks down to Ansteys Cove and Maidencombe beach. Torquay and Paignton are big enough towns for there to be something to please all the family and there are so many wonderful things to do in the area that we were averaging 2 or 3 each day and then needed a rest (so we were very thankful for the comfy sofas)!!!

Beautiful Cottage facing the sea

The cottage is facing the sea with fantastic views where we can see the dawn and the sunset.It is clean, tidy, comfortable and tranquil with a big garden in front. We have very good sleep on the good quality beds. The interiors looks better than the photos. There are coastal paths that you can walk from the house. We are very fond of this cottage and want to come back again. Hosts are friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend it.

Beautiful and Charming Cottage

Delightful, Idyllic with lovely views over the garden towards the sea with the birds singing was out of this world, perhaps this is why we have had more than one holiday here. the Cottage is so delightful and kept so clean with everything you need with the welcome you get from the owners we feel like we are family.

Beautiful house with great character and fabulous views.

We spent a fabulous Christmas break at Monkswell Park Cottage. Jenny and Julian were very helpful before and during our stay. As they live next door to the cottage they are very convenient should you have a problem , which luckily we didn’t. They decorated the house for Christmas and we felt very much at home. The house has a beautiful lawned garden with views of the sea and a private steeply stepped access to a little cove. There are at least 2 very nice restaurants within walking distance. We would love to visit in the summer and hope to return. I would highly recommend staying here.

Location, location, location

The house is beautifully situated. Breakfasting on the terrace with the view to the English Channel is stunning. House is nicely furnished. Hosts are welcoming. But, be aware that none of the rooms in the accommodation have any view to speak of. The beautiful terrace room pictured is part of the main house - not the annexe. The best view of the sea is from a landing window and the second best is from the bedroom without the en-suite bath.

Perfect for a large family. Beautiful setting. Ideal location for Babbacombe, Torquay and Paignton

We stayed in the cottage August 5th-12th. Four adults and three children. This house is absolutely perfect for large groups or families. The three bedrooms were plenty big enough. One main bedroom has the amazing views of the gardens and sea. The second main bedroom has an en-suite. The house has everything you need in every room. Despite the owners living in the building next to this cottage, you never feel encroached on or uncomfortable. The owners were always a pleasure to speak to and always around if you needed anything. The garden is absolutely huge with the most amazing panoramic views of the sea. There is plenty of benches and sun loungers available to use. The house is situated down a private road away from any traffic. So it was lovely to be away from any traffic noise. Lovely and peaceful. There are only two things that could improve this property: 1 - Toilet tissue to be provided. We never thought to bring any with us. Luckily our friends did. 2 - The owners should consider installing a hot tub in the courtyard or garden. This would be amazing. Especially with those views to take in at the same time 😊 They could also get away with charging a lot more then! Overall, I would definitely recommend this property to anyone. The house and views are beautiful, you have everything you need, the location couldn't be better for local towns, nearest shop and pub is a two minute drive away and the owners are lovely humble people who I envy waking up to that view every day!

Lovely first family vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Monkswell Park Garden Rooms. We only wish we had more time to lounge around and enjoy the incredible ocean views; we were so busy exploring Torquay, Exeter, Plymouth, Dartmouth and Agatha Christie's summer house Greenway, high above the River Dart. This was our first trip with our three-month-old, and Jenny and Julian made sure our stay was as pleasant as could be. This is a lovely property ideally situated along the Southwest Coast Path for easy hiking into neighboring villages. We could not recommend this rental more highly!
