Earl Carriage House: Upscale & Private Guest House

The Earl Carriage House is a charming, two-story cottage, tucked away behind our home, offering plenty of space for a couple. While technically it is considered a “backyard cottage,” it is accessed without ever entering our yard or shared spaces. You will have total privacy. You'll also have dedicated off-street parking in the driveway in front of the Carriage House.

The open layout downstairs features a comfortable living area with ample seating, a charming electric stove, cable TV with streaming options, and a dining area adjacent to a fully equipped kitchen, complete with full-size stainless steel appliances. All-Clad cookware and a selection of regional cookbooks will inspire your culinary adventures. On Sundays, don't miss the nearby Ballard Farmers Market for the freshest ingredients.

Upstairs, you'll find a cozy bedroom and spacious tiled bathroom with laundry facilities. Relax in the queen-sized bed while gazing up through the skylight overhead. The stunning quartersawn oak antique doors salvaged from Seattle's Palladian Hotel add to the ambiance.

We take your comfort seriously and have provided a Simmons Beautyrest mattress with luxurious cotton linens, embroidered robes, slippers and a curated collection of feather pillows encased in hypoallergenic covers.

For entertainment, we have assorted board games, a lending library, a TV with cable, Netflix, and streaming options, reliable Wi-Fi, and a Bluetooth speaker. Complimentary coffee, tea, and assorted cereal bars are provided.

Little oasis in the city

Lovely little home, very functional layout and beautiful build quality. The bed is like a cloud - I’ve never slept so well in a stay-away bed. We hosted family for brunch and Virginia, the host, brought over a leaf for the table and an extra chair. Parking spot off the street is a great perk, too. The neighborhood is single-family homes and sidewalks - getting hard to find in Seattle. We walked to the park that overlooks Shilshole marina to work off the cinnamon rolls we grabbed from Piccolino’s bakery for the brunch. Great restaurant for dinner, as well. We would like to just move in. ;-)

Home Away from Home

My husband and I had three nights to enjoy this little gem in Ballard. You will want for nothing if you are lucky enough to also stay. Virginia has generously provided great toiletries, kitchen and food items, laundry detergent, and more. It is comfortably furnished with a cabin-y feel, enhanced by the little gas stove heater, dark wood trim, and antique doors, making everything attractive and solid feeling. At the end of their driveway (exclusive to you) it nonetheless feels very private and is super quiet. While there are lots of windows, the natural light is not great for reading, so I second another reviewer's suggestion for a lamp by the couch. Seattle restaurants are NOT cheap, so a recommendation is Maggie Bluffs, a casual but good restaurant at the marina (near the cruise lines), at the bottom of Magnolia bridge. Tricky to find but worth the trip and tables always available. Thank you Virginia for creating our sweet home away from home! We had a great stay :-)

Wonderful, Peaceful, and Perfectly Located!

This home is just as it appears in the listing...it is peaceful and perfectly located! In our opinion, the Ballard neighborhood is one of the best parts of Seattle...we enjoyed the easy access to local restaurants, breweries, and attractions. If you're wanting to spend time sightseeing in Seattle, you don't even have to get on I-5. There is a quick "backroad" drive that gets you to the Space Needle, Pike's Market, etc. within 15-20 minutes. The home was supplied with everything you could need to cook there. The home is comfortable and clean. We really enjoyed our 10 day stay and would certainly recommend it!

I LOVED this property. Every detail in the cottage is thought out in anticipation of what a guest might need or want. Adorable cottage rental in Ballard.

This lovely rental checked all of the boxes. Clean, updated, private cottage. Appreciated the equipped kitchen, extra plush towels, laundry within the bathroom. Zoned split heat/ ac units. Perfect for two people. Also robes and spa slippers included and a selection of bed sleeping pillows soft to firm! Enjoyed our stay!

There are just too many wonderful things to list about this property but to name a few...the neighborhood is quiet and beautiful, off street parking is available, snacks, coffee and other comforts of home provided, communication with Victoria was excellent and to add to all of that, the cottage is just so lovely. Wonderful place to stay!

This is our favorite place to stay in Seattle. It’s in a lovely, quiet neighborhood, yet is walking distance to vibrant Ballard, and an easy drive to downtown and many other fun Seattle neighborhoods. The cottage is cozy and very well appointed, and off street parking is a nice bonus. Communication and checkin/checkout were completely smooth. Highly recommended!

Great stay in Seattle

A perfect place for two to stay and use as a base for this really fun city. We had the cool weather we came for and so didn't need to use the A/C, but we did cook some and everything we needed was there. Did help that we had a car because the house is a long walk from Ballard's business district, but I saw that on the map.

Hello! It's nice to meet you. I love hosting and meeting wonderful people from all over the world. My "real" job is running my fundraising event consulting business from home and raising my young child alongside my wonderful husband, Brian. We have lived in Seattle for almost 20 years and think it is pretty much the most beautiful place in the world. We love to travel, but haven't been able to do it as much since our son was born, so now we bring the world to us by hosting travelers on our property.

As a family, we love to travel, cook delicious vegetarian food, and spend time with our extended family who also live in the Pacific Northwest. I am an avid crafter, DIYer and semi-expert knitter. At any given time, our house is covered in fabric, glue, wood scraps and pretty much anything that can be used to create pretty things.

When our family travels, we choose to stay in clean, comfortable, and well designed spaces and - in turn - we strive to bring these qualities to our guests. I fancy myself as a real innkeeper and take my job as a host seriously. I want to make sure you have a wonderful trip and be certain that you have everything you need to relax and settle in, including giving you your privacy. Of course, I am always more then happy to give recommendations and tips whenever requested.

Designing and building the carriage house has been a labor of love for us. We have paid special attention to every detail to ensure our guests have a comfortable and relaxing stay. We think you will love the neighborhood as much as we do... it is quiet, yet close to all the excitement of the city.

We think you'll really love the privacy the Carriage House offers, but we are usually nearby if you should need anything or just want a tip on somewhere great to eat, see live music or just about anything else you're interested in.
