A beautiful home set in 11 acres of grounds, overlooking the Mendip Hills.
Barley Wood is a historic house full of character and charm. Built in 1801 for the social reformer and authoress Hannah More. Later Barley Wood was home to the Wills Family-Bristol Tobacconists. Now part of the YMCA Dulverton group and used to create income for charity, we host many events and group holiday rentals. The house is set within 11 acres of gardens and woodland with stunning views across the Mendip Hills. With nine large bedrooms and five main bathrooms there is plenty of room for the whole family! The house also boasts two large rooms for events/group dining, a reception/lounge area with an open fire and piano and a domestic kitchen stocked with all the essentials. An additional three toilets are located on the ground floor. All rooms are doubles however we can add an additional five single camp beds for children and travel cots if required. On site parking, lots of outdoor space and a BBQ are located at the venue. We are happy to recommend local restaurants, pubs and places to visit or help to arrange chefs to cater at Barley Wood.

We had the privilege of spending Christmas here. An extended family gathering from 4 countries. The house was just perfect for us. Comfy beds and lots of space too. The people who run this place are fabulous. The communicate promptly and are so helpful. Location was gorgeous too. We made magic memories!
We had a wonderful stay here which far surpassed expectations. Every room in the property was lovely and there was plenty of space for 17 adults. There were plenty of very spacious bathrooms. The large hall was a particular highlight as an event space. The kitchen was small but well equipped enough to feed 17 over the weekend and the dishwasher much appreciated. Would certainly return for a celebration weekend in future.
An amazingly beautiful, comfortable house. The best weekend ever
We would definitely recommend this wonderful place to stay in. The owners and manager Lauren, were so helpful and couldn’t have prepared the house better for our stay. We had such a memorable weekend. The weather helped and we were also able to make use of the stunning extensive grounds. Thankyou.
An absolutely beautiful property which is even bigger than you can imagine from the pictures. We were a group of six families and the house had more than enough space for all the adults and children. The grounds were beautiful with unbelievable views.
Holly was a superb host. She stayed late to ensure we had everything we needed and was so friendly and thoughtful. We had a fantastic stay and will definitely be back!
Then only improvement would be a dishwasher... With 19 of us there was a lot of washing up to do!
What a success! The staff, house and grounds of this house exceeded all our expectations. Thank you very much and we hope to visit again in the future.
Lovely place everyone praised the staff and the location.
