Description from owner

The Thatched Cottage is a stunning example of a renovated Grade II listed cottage, situated in a conservation area in the idyllic village of Cranborne, within the rural retreat of Cranborne Chase; an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This beautifully presented property, which originally dates back to the 1600's, seamlessly blends a wealth of character features with bespoke modern fixtures and fittings, to provide a spacious and comfortable accommodation throughout. The secluded grounds comprise of well maintained gardens, a good sized parking area and a detached barn incorporating a double garage,

This charming cottage is positioned in a convenient location within the heart of Cranborne village centre, with all the local amenities nearby. This peaceful and pretty village has a village shop, two good public houses, two hotels with restaurants which also include a Country Club and a Stately Home - Cranborne Manor incorporating a garden centre and tea rooms. There is also great beer at The Six Penny Brewery with its Tap bar open to the public everyday and is just a 10 minute stroll through the lovely countryside. The medieval village lies within the beautiful countryside of Cranborne Chase, designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The well known nearby market towns of Ringwood and Wimborne, which are approximately ten miles distant, offer excellent shopping facilities with both having a Waitrose supermarket. The superb outdoor pursuits in the area include; walking, riding and cycling at Cranborne Chase or within the New Forest, approx seven miles away. The cathedral city of Salisbury is approx eighteen miles distant. The A31 and A338 are easily accessed at Ringwood, and heading south-west you will reach Bournemouth, Poole and the coast. Heading east along the A31 the city of Southampton is approx 18 miles distant (from Ringwood) via the M27, and onwards to London via the M3. Paultons Park with its Peppa Pig World is also just a short drive away. There are many attractions nearby including Hollybrook Farm just 5 minutes drive away, The Heavy Horse Center, Monkey World, The Tank Museum, Sealife Center, Moor’s Valley Country Park plus many more. The amazing sandy beaches in Bournemouth and Sandbanks are also just a short drive away.

A covered thatched porch and front door opens into a particularly spacious reception hall, finished with attractive wood-block flooring and comprising an oak staircase rising to the first floor and beams to the ceiling (which also feature in the two principal reception rooms). Adjacent, the elegant sitting room has a double aspect, with an inglenook fireplace providing an attractive focal point. The second reception room is a dining room, and also features an impressive brick inglenook fireplace and wood-block flooring, and is semi-open plan to the rear aspect kitchen/breakfast room, which has underfloor heating. The modern kitchen is fitted with a good range of cream units, with granite work-surfaces and a range of quality integrated Neff appliances, including a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, inset oven, combination oven and induction hob. The breakfast area offers a breakfast table with a glazed roof above providing ample natural light and French doors opening onto the beautiful gardens. A separate utility room houses further appliances. Leading off the kitchen is a useful shower room with a WC, which is fully tiled.

From the first floor landing are four bedrooms and a beautifully presented family bathroom suite; with underfloor heating and comprising an oval bath, pedestal wash basin and WC. The well appointed master bedroom has the benefit of a built in wardrobe at the side of the chimney breast and a quality fitted en-suite shower room, which includes a large walk in shower cubicle. Both bathroom suites feature attractive window shutters. Bedrooms two and three have an aspect to the front, whilst bedroom four has a rear aspect and a walk in wardrobe. Unlike many traditional thatched cottages which have restricted head height, this cottage boasts exceptional headroom throughout the majority of the property.

There is vehicular access around the side of the property, through a five bar gate, to a good sized shingle parking area and the substantial detached Barn, which incorporates a double garage with twin doors. The gardens are beautifully maintained and are mainly laid to lawn, with a superb terrace positioned to make the most of the evening sun, bordered by pretty flower/shrub beds and mature hedge rows.

Short family break

Beautiful property in a quintessential english village. The Thatched Cottage is outstanding, and more than meets the expectations from the online description and photographs. The Kitchen in well equipped, for cooking proper meals. During our short stay the weather was on the cold side, the Cottage was toasty warm for out return. Good local store steps away, good little cafe at the garden center, the walk to the Sixpenny Brewery well worth it- and great beer!!! Highly recommend The Thatched Cottage.

Great stay

Lovely quiet Villiage. Cottage very spacious and super clean. Everything you need in a kitchen. No mobile reception- which we loved! Nice local restaurants and pubs, all within easy walk. Very relaxing stay, we will be back! Thank you

Lovely cottage

It is a lovely cottage and very well fitted out. The village is small but has useful store as well as good eating and drinking places. The only downside is the traffic, outside of the school runs, passing close by which was more than you would expect for a small village.

Great family home

Lovely property with very spacious outdoor space which is great for kids to let off steam. Great location for day trips to the coast & Peppa pig world! Only down side poor WiFi so couldn’t stream and being on O2 there was no reception, other family members on Vodafone had limited reception. So if you want to escape from the world & switch off it’s perfect!

A perfect spot!

Everything about this lovely home was perfect. Everything you could need is supplied. The bedding was so soft and warm. There were plenty of dishes and cookware. Janice responds so quickly and offered to turn on lights if we arrived late. The yard is as cute as the house. The kids didn’t want to leave. 5 stars over and over.

A Spacious Property in a Peaceful & Beautiful Setting

This 17 centuary Thached property is beautiful from the outside and inside, and is located in the small and quiet village of Cranmore. It has four bedrooms (one with a bunk bed), One big bathroom, with a bath tub, one ensuite with shower and toilet, and another shower and toilet on the ground floor. It is bright and spacious and has been very tastefully decorated throughout. It offers three big rooms downstairs, and a good size and fully equipped kitchen and utility room, with wachine machine and dryer. It has a large garden with BBQ, garden table and chairs. In fact everything you need from a self-catering holiday has been provided for. The Church of St Mary and St Bartholomew is within walkign distance and well worth a visit. Little Pickle at the Mill in Wimborne is a nice little place for an afternoon tea, and has a few crafts shops on site too. Families with young children will enjoy the Sea Life Centre in Weymouth. There are a number of good restaurants within 3-4 miles of Cranmore. The restaurants/pubs in the Cranmore village itself are not open every day and are closed on Sundays. There is a small local supermarket within walking distance of the cottage for the basic essentials. The town of Wimborne is where you found the bigger supermarkets, and shops. The owner of the property had kindly left us milk, tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival which after our journey was much appreciated. Stair-gates and cot for my grandaughter were also provided.

Superb base for exploring and relaxing

We so enjoyed our stay at The Thatched Cottage in Cranbourne. We were two couples and the space allowed us to both have a lovely bedroom and our own bathrooms. The three reception rooms were lovely and we had a few great meals in - cooked in the well equipped kitchen and eaten in the spacious dining room. We were unable to get booked into The Fosse, the local restaurant but enjoyed many fun times in the Fleur de Lys pub. Swum in the sea off Hengistbury Head Beach, visited Hardys Cottage, walked in the New Forest (with the ponies) and did a lot of shopping! Would heartily recommend a visit (or two) to the garden centre in the village and Wimborne Minster (pubs galore). We would love to stay again as we feel a week was just not long enough.

Perfect cottage

We stayed at The Thatched Cottage last week, for a family group to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and it was perfect. So modern, clean and cosy, and very well equipped, in a quiet location but within easy reach of supermarkets and restaurants. We were six adults and two boys aged 6 and 7, who loved the bunk beds and the themed rooms. We nabbed the Heart Room with ensuite for ourselves but the family shared the other bathroom and shower room. There was ample hot water, and the heating was efficient though we didn’t need it much. Monkey World, Moors Valley Park and the Heavy Horse Farm were all perfect days out, and the weather behaved itself. Didn’t get to eat at the Sheaf of Arrows unfortunately as it was closed due to sickness, but we took a walk for a beer at the Sixpenny Tap which was lovely. Great instructions and communications from Janice, we have no hesitation in recommending this cottage and would happily stay there again.

Late May break..

The Thatched Cottage, Cranbourne is ideally situated right in the centre of the village and is beautifully appointed with a lovely large garden and outside patio with barbeque. We were a gang of four (two couples) in our 60's & 70's and found it to be very comfortable all round. We also had electric bikes with us so it was great to have a locked garage with power for charging. We honestly couldn't find any fault with the property and Janice was very attentive all the way through the booking and our stay. Cranborne itself has several eating places which were all good and then there is the added benefit of nearby village pubs and restaurants. The Crane Valley golf club was also very welcoming and it is very easy to get into the beautiful West side of the New Forest by bike as well as car. The local area is also superb for walking and visiting the very local Cranborne Manor House gardens is a must. We had a great week there! Nigel

Easter Family Break

First impressions were great. The property was spotlessly clean and everything we expected. Very well equipped kitchen. Beautiful rooms all of which combined beams, uneven floors and reduced head space with modern conveniences. Comfortable beds with good quality sheets and duvets. Outside there is plenty of space for socializing with various seating areas. The under floor heating in the kitchen area makes it very comfortable when having your morning coffee from the Espresso machine. The village is small and quiet but has two pubs and a great little shop selling local produce including the most delicious sourdough bread from the Orchard Bakery. One thing we missed but not meant as a criticism is that there is little/no internet outside of the WiFi. We struggled to make phone calls at times. Janice (our host) was always available and was very helpful so thank you to her. Would recommend 100% for a comfortable stay in a village environment.

SADLY DISAPPOINTING

THE THATCH COTTAGE IS AN EXCELLENT PROPERTY & THERE IS NO DOUBT THE OWNERS HAVE SPENT A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT SETTING IT UP. UNFORTUNATELY NOT ENOUGH DETAIL WENT INTO THE BATHROOM FACILITIES. UPON ARRIVAL WE REALISED THAT ONE OF THE THREE BATHROOMS WAS LOCATED ON THE GROUND FLOOR IMMEDIATELY NEXT TO THE REAR FRENCH WINDOWS. THE SECOND SHOWER BATHROOM WAS AN UPSTAIRS ENSUITE BUT THE THIRD BATHROOM INSTEAD OF HAVING A SHOWER FACILITY OVER THE BATH HAD NO SHOWER. BEARING IN MIND THIS IS AN 8 PERSON PROPERTY I THINK IT IS TOTALLY UNREASONABLE TO EXPECT ANYONE LET ALONE PEOPLE ABOVE PENSION AGE TO EITHER ALL SHARE THE ENSUITE OR NEGOTIATE WHAT ARE UNDERSTANDABLY STEEP STAIRS TO WASH DOWNSTAIRS OF A MORNING. WHEN I TELEPHONED THE OWNERS THEY WERE WELL AWARE THE SHOWER HAD BEEN REMOVED BUT OBVIOUSLY HAD DONE NOTHING TO UPDATE THEIR WEBSITE. I DIDN`T FIND THE COMMENT THAT HE WAS SURE PEOPLE ENJOY A BATH VERY HELPFUL. IN ADDITION THAT MAIN BATHROOM HAS NO FAN EXTRACTION FITTED WHICH MEANS IT IS AGAIN VERY AWKWARD FOR MULTIPLE OCCUPANCY AS IT IS THE ONLY UPSTAIRS TOILET OTHER THAN THE BEDROOM ENSUITE. STRANGELY FROM THE OUTSIDE THERE APPEARS TO BE THE EXTRACTION GRILL BUT PRESUMABLY WHEN THE BATHROOM WAS REDECORATED THAT WAS ALSO REMOVED. FOUR OF US STAYED ALL OF AN AGE. NONE FANCIED PARADING THROUGH THE PROPERTY TO GO FOR A WASH IN THE MORNINGS OR INDEED AFTER RETURNING FROM OUR JOURNEYS. WE WOULD NOT HAVE CHOSEN THIS PROPERTY IF THE FACILITIES HAD BEEN CORRECTLY LISTED

Excellent accommodation, location & facilities.

The process of selecting this property was easy, as was the booking & communication with VRBO as well as the host. The property was amazing, well furnished & equipped, with clear instructions on appliances etcetera & Janice (host) was at the end of a phone should there be any queries. The property was both spacious, stylish & comfortable. The local amenities were great; good pubs & places to eat in Cranborne without using the car. The location was ideal for touring other parts of Dorset too; which we thoroughly enjoyed. The Halfpenny Brewery & tap room are not to be missed - very welcoming & great beers. All together a thoroughly good short break & one which we would like to repeat in the summer to enjoy the garden more.

Charming cottage

We rented for 3 weeks and enjoyed every minute. Family and friends arrived and went during this time and allowed myself and Stacey a week on our own. Cranbourne is well placed as a base to explore. Janice was very accommodating and ensured the property was equipped with everything necessary. (I did purchase a knife sharpener). Only the LA Fosse offered good food in the area which was disappointing.

A home away from home

We spent a fabulous week at The Thatched Cottage and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a home away from home. It is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. The garden and outside seating area is wonderful, and it was lovely to sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings and birdlife. The location was superb for our sightseeing day trips to Salisbury, Stonehenge, Corfe Castle, Durdle Door, Bovington and Portsmouth, and the village of Cranborne itself is lovely and quiet with a pretty church and Manor House with beautiful gardens. It also has several restaurants serving great food and a well stocked local store, and everyone was wonderfully friendly. Janice was a fantastic host and provided us with all the information we needed, along with great driving directions and interesting history on the cottage itself. Thanks so much for everything Janice! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again.
